Family Traditions (Chapter 1)[18+]
January 2016
Mina had just finished preparing their luggage when Vergil entered the bedroom with little Milaisys in his arms. The baby smiled when she saw her and lifted a little gray and black arm in her direction.
The brunette threw kisses at her but didn't grant her daughter's wish of being carried by her mommy. Instead, worry creased her eyebrows as she looked at her husband. "We are missing a baby. Where's Ary?"
His electric blue eyes softened while a sad smile formed in his lips. "His father said it would be less problematic for us if Ary stayed with him; and mother agreed."
The woman grunted, and the good humor seemed to leave her body in a rush. "Aryan wouldn't be a problem. We have been taking care of him since he was only an egg!"
"I know, dove. Nockrish's decision was a bum to me as well but they had a point. If taking a baby demon to meet your human family is a big task in its own, imagine how much more difficult it would be with two baby demons," Vergil explained as he tried to stop his little girl from biting his finger. "I think we should feed Mili before we go."
Mina sighed and came to kiss her daughter between the birth of her tiny horns. "Come with me, darling. Mami will feed you," she cooed while brushing her nose against the baby's and sitting at the large bed. "Did you get the earrings?" The brunette asked before biting her wrist. The baby quickly grabbed hold of her hand and began sucking her blood in earnest.
"Yes, she already has them on."
The woman eyed the small diamonds in the girl's ears, twisting her mouth to the left. Her daughter still looked as always! Same gray skin with the forearms and shins a pitch black, dark gray wings and eyes that would spook any sane person. Not that she wanted to change a hair in her baby girl's appearance, but her grandmother would suffer a heart attack if she saw a little demon in her arms.
"Then you need to find another jeweler because the illusion isn't working."
"It is working but it only affects mortals. The human maids of the mansion were all fusing over me, calling our angel 'a beautiful fairy princess'. Their words not mine," Vergil said, putting their four suitcases on the floor. "Dove, you do have in mind we are teleporting to Puerto Rico not taking a flight there?" he asked, eyeing the luggage.
"Yes, but we need to appear like we did otherwise aunt Sofía is going to know something is wrong." One minute she was holding the baby and the next Milaisys was hanging from the ceiling like a bat. The girl giggled as her little wings opened and closed in delight; but then something went wrong. Her footing faltered, and she began falling. Mina moved to catch her, but the little she-devil disappeared again to reappear sitting at her father's shoulders and pulling at his hair.
Vergil winced while his tiny princess giggled again.
"Did she just teleported?" Mina asked still in shock.
Her white haired demon gave her a tight-lipped smile and nodded. "Do you still want to do this?"
The brunette's smile reached her beautiful gray eyes before a soft laugh escaped her. "Where is my brave demon prince now?"
****
It was about midday when they teleported to a solitary street near the entrance to the town Mina's grandparents lived. Vergil was quick to act and snapping his fingers their new 2015 X5M BMW appeared before them. His wife smiled beside him while Milaisys slept in her arms. "Those powers of yours sure are handy."
"You can do it as well, Mina," he said, carefully taking the baby in his arms and putting her in the car seat.
"Yeah, right. I have trouble summoning new clothes to my body imagine if I try to conjure a car! Maybe I'll be able to do it in the next five thousand years," she answered jokingly while her white haired demon loaded their luggage.
The prince shook his head as a smirk showed in his lips before he started the silver SUV and got into the main road.
Mina smiled when she saw "El gigante dormido" -a mountain that appeared like a sleeping giant overlooking the town below- through the car's window. From the curve of his brow to his protruding belly, the mountain remained exactly the same as she remembered it from her childhood.
Her smile widened, and her eyes misted as the memory of her six-year-old self, asking her mother why that mountain had a face and a bushy beard, came like a bittersweet Christmas present. Marina had replied by telling her the legend about a giant killed by a Taino shaman and that later the centuries turned into stone. Maybe it was that day, visiting her mother's home town, that her love for myths and legends was born; all thanks to the story of a green giant that appeared to be welcoming her back to her roots.
Tears escaped from the corner of her eyes before she could stop them. Red, bloody tears. The tears of a vampire. Her husband smelled the blood and turned to her direction with a concerned look in his electric blues.
The demon slowed down the car and parked in front of a cemetery that was in the outskirts of the small town. "Is this your mother's home town?" Vergil asked as he grabbed her hand and gave her a light squeeze.
She nodded but said nothing while more tears rolled down her cheeks, successfully staining her white silk blouse.
"Then let it all out. Take all the time you need, dove."
Her silent tears became sobs she tried to hush least she accidentally awaken her daughter. Almost nine years from her mother's death had passed and yet in times like these the pain felt as raw as the first day. She now knew the suffering of losing her mom will never leave her. It would forever be like a wound that would never heal, bleeding for the rest of eternity.
And it had gotten all the worst since Cerberus tore to pieces Marina's ghost. Not being able to feel her dead mother's presence made the memories harder to bear.
Suddenly, her throat began feeling parched and the desire to drink pushed past her pain and memories to the forefront of her mind.
One moment she was crying and the next she had pushed back Vergil's seat with her psychic powers and straddled his legs. The need to sink her fangs into his neck and drink his blood until she was satiated was all that mattered to her.
"Mina?" He arched a brow while she pulled at the neck of his shirt, ripping the fabric, and began licking his skin.
"Please," the brunette almost moaned against his neck. "I need it."
"It's okay, all that crying made you thirsty. Just promise me you won't cry in front of your family."
Mina shook her head before she bit him. The prince grunted and his hands flew to her hips to secure her in place; the place that had begun to harden for her. His delicious blood mixed with the sensation of his erection pressing ever tighter against her core warmed her blood and she bit him harder. A low moan left his lips as his hands told her hips how to rub his crotch. Electricity appeared to climb the brunette's back, and she left his neck to unite their lips in a frenzied kiss. He gripped her tighter against him, making her gasp and bite his tongue once he dared to enter her mouth.
Vergil's vision filled with white spots as pain and pleasure mixed in to harden his penis until it throbbed. That was the last straw. He needed her. He needed her like yesterday.
"Dove," he said in a breathless whisper that sounded like a plea. "I want to take you."
She nodded eagerly and straightened all she could inside the SUV, so her husband could open his fly and free his deliciously stiff member. Glancing around for any onlookers, her eyes passed over the backseat and she froze. Two tiny silver irises surrounded by red scleras looked back at her.
The color drained from her face while she hastily zipped her demon's pants with her telekinesis.
An angry hiss sounded in the car. "What the hell, Mina!" The man yelled as his crotch throbbed with pain. In her haste she had hurt him with the zipper.
Her embarrassed gray eyes locked with his angry electric blues before her lips moved. "Milaisys is awake and is looking at us."
"What?" He turned quickly to confirm his consort's words. Mina was right, their princess was very much awake. His mouth twisted to the side and he shook his head. "So tiny and already a pervert. You have been spending too much time with grandma."
The baby giggled while she grabbed her little pink shoes.
Mina moved back to her seat and looked at Vergil with a furrowed brow. "How much do you think she saw?"
"Don't worry, dove," he began, pulling away from the cemetery. "You were completely clothed, and I highly doubted she saw my friend since you were all over me."

Ten minutes later, a lot of curves and plant life everywhere, they finally arrived at the house of Mina's grandparents. Vergil had just parked in front of the house's white fence when a bald elderly man came out of his home helped by a wooden cane. He eyed the expensive car and was about to say something when Mina stepped out and stood by the fence. "Granddaddy!" she exclaimed excitedly.
The man's olive eyes glowed with mirth before he turned and called out to someone inside the wood house. "¡Ven acá, muñeca! ¡Mira quién vino a visitarnos! La que se casó sin invitarnos."
Answering the call of her husband, an equally old lady with grayish-white short hair came out just in time to see Vergil taking the baby out of the SUV. Her chocolate eyes lit up as she took a wrinkled hand to cover her mouth. Emotion robbed her of her voice, so it was her husband the one who spoke.
"Come inside, mija. That gate has no padlock; just open it."
Once everyone had gathered inside the porch, between cacti, orchids and various types of desert roses, Mina began the introductions. "Abuela, abuelo, él es Vergil Larsa; mi esposo. Vergil they're María Sara Rivera Torres and Eric Bermúdez Alcover; my grandparents." She smiled as her grandma's eyes turned to her little daughter, who was behaving unusually well. "Y ésta hermosura de aquí," she began while tickling the girl's belly, earning her beautiful giggles, "es Milaisys."
Eric smiled, making all his expression lines even more visible. "Cute name."
María eyed her husband. She may not know much English, but she knew enough to understand what the old man said. "Suena a enfermedad." She then looked at the young couple. "No se queden ahí parados y entren."
Her granddaughter laughed and locked an arm with hers while they entered the house. "Eso es exactamente lo que yo le dije a Vergil, abuela, que el nombre sonaba a una enfermedad."
They laughed together while going directly to the kitchen. María never left guests without something to drink and eat in their hands.
Starting the coffee maker, the older woman looked behind her to the tall gringo speaking with her husband in the living room and then to the brunette beside her. "¿Tu marido sabe español, niña? Porque sabes que en esta casa no se habla otra cosa," she asked in a hushed tone.
"Sí, abuela, y estoy segura que lo adorarás pues casi no tiene acento; muy diferente a mí."
"¡Ay, mija! No importa que suenes como una nuyorican, sabes que siempre serás mi tesoro." The lady's eyes glowed with devotion before she planted a kiss in Mina's cheek and smiled. It had been such a long time since her little girl's last visit that the tiredness she felt in the morning had disappeared completely, leaving her filled with energy and happiness. She felt like a woman of forty-something not the seventy-five living corpse with more pains than wrinkles.
A few minutes later, both women returned with a plate of snacks and four steaming cups of coffee. The plate displayed salty crackers, little cubes of ham and two types of cheese.
As they ate, shared stories and laughed at Milaisys crawling all around the living room, the sound of a car parking silenced the group before a strong female voice filled the void. "Where is my niece?"
Mina stiffened and she grabbed Vergil's hand while she tried to hide her nerves behind a smile. Her aunt Sofía had arrived meaning the real test was only just beginning.
