Chapter 1
(A/N: What I forgot to mention in the intro is that all characters in thus book are 18+. Hope you keep that in mind.)
The weekend has passed and it was time to go to school again, something most students didn't look forward to at all. After her run-in on the weekend, Gwen scouted the internet for any clues on who Y/N was as it seemed a little strange that he would be saving New York although she took care of it already. Was she happy? Not really because there were too many cooks in the kitchen as people say every now and then. She definitly wanted to find him and talk to him about it, but the sea of people when she entered the school made it had to pick anyone out.
Gwen took a deep breath and walked through the crowd towards her locker to get prepared for her first lesson. It didn't leave her mind though because it just didn't make much sense. Why would Y/N be there and fight criminals? Where did he get the suit? And how did he know where she was last night? Gwen was annoyed by all of those things, hoping to get some answers soon as she put her books in her backpack before walking to her classroom, only to stop at the door when seeing Y/N talk to her teacher.
Y/N:" I guess an introduction would be best when everyone's here."
Teacher:" Yeah, you dropped in at the middle of the year, so it's better when everyone gets to know you a little."
Y/N:" I understand. As long as they accept me for who I am, things should be okay."
Teacher:" I know it's hard, but you can do it, Y/N. After reading your file, I understand the trouble you faced before. If there ever is a problem, you can talk to me or the other teachers."
Y/N:" I'll try not to be a burden, Sir."
Teacher:" Just behave and pay attention for the start. I'm sure the rest of the year will be a breeze for you."
Y/N chuckled at that. He was a pretty good student in terms of marks and staying off the radar most of the time, so he would try to do the same this year. The two stood aside when students started filling the classroom, giving the younger man some weird looks as they passed by him. He was new after all and it was always strange having someone unknown around. Gwen entered last and kept a close eye on Y/N as she got to her seat while the teacher took attendence of everyone while Y/N tried not to look nervous.
Teacher:" So...we start today a little differently. As you see, you'll have a new classmate for the rest of the year. Young man, please introduce yourself."
Y/N:" Well, I'm Y/N L/N, 19 years old and I like to read. You can often find me in the library. Other than that, I also exercise a lot and I watch a lot of movies. Hopefully we can get along until graduation."
Teacher:" Thank you, Y/N. You can take a seat next to Belle. Now, I expect all of you to treat him with respect. Is that clear?"
The class answered with a loud Yes as Y/N smiled softly and sat down next to the afrementioned Belle who was pretty welcoming as she shook hands with Y/N.
Coincedentally Gwen was right behind them as she watched the two for a minute. It wasn't so much Belle that had her attention, but Y/N since he was different from the previous meeting. Gwen didn't know what to make of it, but after everyone got situated, the school day could officially start.
--------------------------------------------------------------
In the first break of the day, Gwen didn't waste any time as she went after Y/N who just walked onto the courtyard for some fresh air. She caught up with him pretty quickly and nanaged to get him to a quiet corner.
Gwen:" You!"
Y/N:" Oh...hey Gwen. What's up?"
Gwen:" You owe me an explaination...big time! Anything I saw yesterday, I need you to tell me."
Y/N:" Hey, easy there. First off: we're at school, so we can't talk about it here. Second: what I did last night was my own idea. I didn't know you were around."
Gwen:" But what about the suit? And why do you do this stuff?"
Y/N:" I'll tell you when we're alone. There are too many potential listeners around here and I don't want any rumors to spread."
Gwen:" You better keep that promise or I'll annoy you every day."
Y/N:" I'm a man of my word, Gwen. Once school is over, meet me at the old water tower. Then I'll eplain the things you wanna know."
Gwen groaned in annoyance and looked down for a moment, but nodded and accepted Y/N's request. She hoped she would get the answers she wanted, but something about it still felt off. Whatever this was going to be, it wasn't the usual chaos she wasused toon a daily basis.
--------------------------------------------------------------
In the afternoon, it was time to deal with the matter at hand as Y/N was already at the tower, sitting on the edge as he overlooked the city. The happy smile was gone this time, replaced by a somber expression for some reason. He had a lot to think about and the things occupying his mind really brought his mood down. He sight until hearing someone swinging by, revealed to be Gwen who smiled softly at him.
Gwen:" You actually kept your promise."
Y/N:" Yeah, I'm not suddenly dropping out like a chicken."
Gwen:" If you did, I would've tracked you down and then talked to you."
Y/N:" Riiiight, right. Now take a seat. The explaining could take a while."
Gwen ran a hand through her hair first before sitting down next to Y/N. She noticed his expression, but decided against asking what was going on as he started telling her what she wabted to hear.
Y/N:" The whole suit thing actually started as a costume for Halloween. I had my mother bring me the materials and then got to working. It wasn't easy, but I put about three weeks into getting it done."
Gwen:" It's partially like armor though. Why is that?"
Y/N:" That's to absorb damage. And it ties perfectly into the next point. I go around New York, fighting criminals, so nobody has to suffer. Do you remember the subway disaster from two years ago?"
Gwen:" With the terrorist group blowing up the subway? And several dead people?"
Y/N:" Yeah...you see...my parents were on that subway. They had a nice day out for their anniversary and were on their way back when it happened...Your dad, he...He actually came by to tell me the news...I was devastated..."
Gwen:" I'm so sorry you lost your parents like that, Y/N...I only heard about it on the news and when my dad told me."
Y/N:" It's okay...But that event is the reason I fight all the bad guys. I don't want anyone to lose their family...It's easier said than done, but at least I try..."
Y/N fought back the tears and the memories of that painful night as best as he could while Gwen had a hand on his shoulder. She heard a lot from different people, but when in private like this, such stories hit harder.
Gwen:" If you need anyone to talk or distract you from that stuff, I'm available."
Y/N:" I appreciate that, but I don't know where you live, nor do I have your number."
Gwen:" Just a sec."
Gwen the reached into her pocket, taking out a slip of paper and giving it to Y/N. Upon unfolding it, he saw her adress and phone number in it, chuckling softly before putting the paper in his own pocket.
Only then did Gwen realize what just happened.
Gwen:" Wait wait wait, did you just get my number because of sympathy?"
Y/N:" You gave me the note, so whose fault is it?"
Gwen:" Ohhh I knew I should've thought this through!...Okay fine, we're not gonna make a fuss about this."
Y/N:" I won't. You almost did."
Gwen:" Are you always a smartass?"
Y/N:" Only sometimes. I don't see you complaining yet though."
Gwen:" Don't push it though. And next time there's trouble, let me know so we can fight together."
Y/N:" Will do, boss. And you keep yourself in check too, Gwen."
Gwen rolled her eyes with a smile before the two hugged shortly. Eventhough she expected something else from this, it was a nice bonding experience nonetheless. Y/N agreed in his mind as he climbed down the ladder while Gwen used her webs to quickly make her way home.
