Chapter 3: A Heated Meeting

**A/N: Let this be a lesson to you all! I respond well to bribery, and I accept updates as a form of payment. Enjoy, because this is all you get till next week :)**

~Axel~

"So the Blackbourne Team is in Reston?" I ask Phil.

"It would seem so. I highly doubt Owen and Sean came alone," he responds.

"And they have no idea that Sang is here? Their kids?" Marc asks him.

"I don't believe so."

"Nathan was surprised when he saw me. Never asked about Sang. We have to assume they don't know she's here," Raven inserts.

"Which means they're not here for her," I say aloud.

"So it would seem," Phil says dejectedly.

"Then that only leaves one question," I state. "Why are they here?"

"And not with their bird and children," Raven finishes for me.

My team and I are sitting around the living room of Sang's apartment while we discuss the re-appearance of the Blackbourne Team. Sang and Phil came home with the twins about an hour ago, in which time Sang went to her room to take a nap before dinner, leaving the twins with us. Morgan and Cole are currently sleeping on the twins, leaving the rest of us free to discuss what Phil called me about earlier. It would seem that he saw Owen and Sean in the hospital, right after talking to Sang in the hallway. They didn't seem to notice her as they were at the front desk asking a nurse some questions. Good thing that nurse wasn't Sang; I'm not sure how she would've handled it.

"So now that we know they're here, what are we going to do about it?" Marc asks me. "Do we tell Sang?"

"I think we should find out why they're here first. They obviously don't know about the twins, since she found out after they left," I tell him,

Right after I finish my sentence, my phone begins to ring. I see the twins start to rise at the sound, and I quickly go out to the balcony to take the call.

"Hello?"

"Chicken," I hear the person on the phone say.

"Ficus," I respond.

Random is Academy protocol. Who could this be? We don't have any ongoing assignments.

"Reston Metro Station, 10pm. Bring your team."

"Who is-"

I get cut off by the dial tone before I can finish my sentence. Walking back into the house, I throw my phone to Corey, who has his hands free now that Cole is playing with Marc.

"Trace the number that just called me. Priority 1," I tell him.

"On it."

He gets up from the couch and goes into the guest room that holds his laptop. As soon as he disappears down the hallway, Sang comes out stretching.

"Morning malen'kiy burunduk (little chipmunk)," Raven greets her. "Enjoy your nap?"

"Hush you," Sang responds while going over to Morgan and Brandon. "What's for dinner, my love?"

Sang let's the kids pick their dinner twice a week; once for each of them. Today must be Morgan's turn.

"Hmmm, chicken and mashed potatoes, with string beans," Morgan responds happily.

"Coming right up," she says with a kiss to her forehead.

"Don't I get a kiss?" Brandon jokes with a laugh.

"Ewww." The twins squeal with laughter.

"You wish," Sang says with an eye roll before pushing the side of Brandon's head as she walks past him. "You boys staying for dinner?"

"You know it," Marc responds with a smile.

"Axel? You ok?" Sang asks before she walks in the kitchen.

"Yeah sweetie, I'm fine," I tell her while pasting on a smile.

She looks concerned for a minute before looking around the room with a frown. It's hard to get anything past Sang; she's too perceptive.

"Go make dinner, woman!" Raven crows while throwing a plushie at Sang.

She narrows her eyes at him before walking into the kitchen mumbling about brutish Russian men and food poisoning. The twins jump off of their previous perches to go jump on Raven for throwing things at their mom.

They really are great kids, Sang raised them well.

Soon after, Corey comes rushing out of the hallway and makes a beeline for my direction.

"Ax, we gotta talk," he says as he pulls me out to the balcony.

"What did you find out?" I ask once the sliding doors are shut.

"I traced the call back to a house about ten minutes from here, over by Reston town center. The house is being rented by a Mr. Blackwell, and satellite imaging shows that it's them. It's Blackbourne and his team," Corey tells me with a resolved face.

"Very original choice of alias," I respond sardonically.

"What did he want?"

"To meet with us at the station tonight. At ten."

"What do we do?"

"We go, and hopefully get to the bottom of this mess."

Before going back into the house, I send a message to the guys, telling them that we have a meeting tonight. They all send us questioning looks when we walk back inside, but wisely stay quiet due to the children. The twins go and set the table when Sang tells us that dinner is almost ready, and we sit down and eat as the family we've become.

Time seems to escape all of us, and soon enough, it's eight o'clock and we're helping Sang get the twins ready for bed. She stays up with us, watching T.V. for a while, before heading to her room to read. We let ourselves out of the house and go into my apartment adjacent to Sang's. I quickly explain to them the situation, including my phone call with who could only be Owen, and let them know to be ready for anything. Soon enough, it's 9:50 and we're all heading out to the elevator, minus Phil who's staying in my apartment.

Living in the apartment complex that surrounds the metro station makes our trip to this meeting quite brief, and soon enough we're walking up to the station where we see Owen and his boys standing in formation. Owen and Sean are at the front, followed by Kota, Victor, and Nathan, with Silas, North, Luke, and Gabe bringing up the rear. We walk up to them, leaving a few feet of space in between us in our own formation. Myself and Marc in the front, with Raven, Brandon, and Corey behind us.

"Owen," I greet. "I have to say I'm surprised by your reappearance. Even more so for this meeting. Care to tell us what it's for?"

Owen picks up the black bag that he had laying at his feet and thrusts it in my direction. I catch it with a bemused expression on my face.

"Everything that you need to know is in that bag. And now that you have it, we'll be off," he tells me right before him and his team turn around and start to walk away.

"That's all you have to say?" Marc calls out to their retreating forms. "You're not even going to ask about Sang? How she's been these past five years? Did you ever really care about her!?"

This seems to strike a cord as North turns around and has to be physically restrained by his team.

"Don't you dare ask us that! You know nothing about our relationship with her!" North shouts out.

"Well it must be true!" Marc retaliates. "You haven't even asked about her! How about the fact that she has kids now, huh? Didn't even know about them did you! No! Because you didn't even care to know! Neither did your families!"

"I don't want to hear about those kids!"

"Why not!? They're yours!"

At Marc's exclamation they all freeze, stunned expressions across the board.

"What?" North whispers.

"They're yours! And we've been helping her raise them while you've been God knows where!"

"Axel, is this true?" Owen asks me.

"What reason would we have to lie?" I answer him.

"It would seem we have some things to discuss. Axel?" he says to me while motioning to the side.

I oblige him as we walk over to the side while his team whispers to themselves.

"What's this all about, Owen?" I ask him as soon as we're alone. "I know you didn't know about the twins, but to not even ask about Sang?"

"We recently received some information that led us to believe the children were one of yours," he tells me.

"What information?" I ask him.

"It's all in the bag," he tells me, as he gestures for me to open said bag. "A number of years ago, when we were on the Ashley Waters case, a stalker popped up which we named Volto due to his mask preference. He seemed adamant in his wish to get Sang away from us and everything to do with the Academy. We never found out his identity, and as soon as the case was over he just disappeared. We thought nothing of it at the time, we were just happy to be rid of him. Apparently that was just wishful thinking. The day before we left, we received a letter stating that we needed to leave Sang and never return. Attached to the letter was a picture that we all found most disturbing. The night before we got the letter, we were all out on a mission, leaving Sang home alone much to our displeasure. And since there hadn't been any problems, and with Victor's security measures on the house, we thought she'd be safe. Apparently we were wrong, because that night, he managed to bypass all of our security and get into our home while she was sleeping. He held a knife to her throat and took the picture, taunting us with it. We knew that if we couldn't protect her while we were there, she would be better off without us."

While he's recounting what is probably the worst experience in his life, I'm looking at said photo and letter. Whoever this guy is, he meant business. The letter said, "You can't protect her from me. She's not safe with you. Leave her and never return." I couldn't imagine how they must have felt to receive this, but it does raise an interesting question.

"So what have you been doing all this time?"

"Well, for the first year we mainly wallowed in self pity. After we managed to pick ourselves up off our asses, we started planning a way to get back to her. We've been tracking Volto the best we can, and we've managed to track him here. Which proved we were on the right track, seeing as we received a second letter with more pictures this morning after seeing Dr. Roberts at the hospital. The pictures showed her with your team and the children, but it also showed members of my team in your vicinity. They lead us to believe that she was with you now, rather intimately, and that the children were yours."

I pull out the set of pictures, and after flipping through only a few of them, I can see why they assumed the worst. We are in rather comfortable positions with Sang. We've gotten close to her over the years, but we've only ever seen her as a little sister. Her and those kids have been good for us.

"I can assure you. Owen, we have never been with Sang in that way. She's always thought that you all would come back to her."

"I wish we would have found her under different circumstances," he tells me. "He's threatened her again. There's another letter in the bag."

I search for the letter and read it once I pull it out. Apparently this sadistic bastard hasn't only threatened her, but the kids as well.

"Over my dead body," I growl out.

"Then it seems we'll be joining forces. Because I'll be damned if we lose her again now that we have a chance to get her back, and be in our children's life." He pauses for a moment before his eyes start to shine. "My God, we have children. Do they know about us?"

"She tells them about you everyday," I tell him with a small smile.

"We have to see her. We have to see them."

"Then let's get back to your boys," I tell him as I place everything back in the bag and close it up.

We walk back over to our teams, to see them still divided. This won't do. If we're to protect Sang and the twins, we need to be united."

"There seems to have been a misunderstanding," I announce to our teams. "Sang is not now, nor has she ever been romantically involved with anyone from my team. And those twins are yours," I tell our friends.

"What?" Marc asks confused. "You thought we were with her? We'd never do that to you guys."

"Twins!" Luke and Gabe whisper together.

"When can we see them?" North asks, calming down from his earlier outburst.

"We can go see them now, but I have to warn you, she isn't the same as you remember. She's had to change, she's stronger now, and will do anything protect those kids."

"We'd never hurt them!" North exclaims. "Or her."

"Aren't they sleeping? Is it ok to see them now?" Sean asks, ignoring North's outburst.

"She has tomorrow off, so she won't be too pissed off," Brandon tells them.

"She's a nurse now, right?" Sean asks as we head back to our building. "My Pookie actually became a nurse."

"She actually did it for you," Corey tells him. "She knew how much you thought she could do it. She figured it'd be a good way to help people, as well as staying close to you in your absence."

"Ten was always thoughtful like that," Kota comments with a wistful smile.

"She always put us first," Victor adds.

We end up taking both elevators up to the penthouse and walk down the hallway to Sang's apartment. I knock on the door, loud enough for her to hear us and wait as we hear shuffling and a muffled voice.

Sang opens the door, rubbing her eyes, not looking up while she says "There better be a damn good reason you're waking me up, Axel."

"Pookie?"
