~~~~~New Years~~~~~~ 3rd POV
Ahsoka was working the evening shift on New Years. It was calm and slow. Though it wasn't expected to be too busy. As it was the holidays, the restaurant kitchen and floor were closing early at 7, while the bar would stay open longer but still close at 9.
Ahsoka, Jesse, and some others were just hanging out and eating their dinner while it was slow and no one was in, when Trace walked in.
Trace had brought her family in after her son's baseball game. While there was a sign on the door that said "Kitchen Closing @7 and Bar Closing @9," it was 6:45. She hoped they would still serve them, as it was slow and they may have already started closing.
Trace approached the terminal to order, as Ahsoka walked up to take her order.
"I know it is close to 7, so if you need to kick us out at close, that is ok. We will go."
"No don't worry about it!" Ahsoka brushed off her concern. Ahsoka was surprised at the politeness and openness of the woman in front of her to abide by store rules. "We can serve y'all it is perfectly fine!"
Trace nodded and proceeded to order for her and her family, instructing them to choose their food and then sit in an area where they had enough seats but wouldn't dirty any extra space. Lastly she left Ahsoka with a nice tip and told her again that they would leave if needed or wanted.
Ahsoka was astonished still by Trace's humble and polite manner and the fact that she tipped nicely and even told her family to keep tidy.
When the food was finished, Ahsoka and Jesse brought it out and Ahsoka made sure that they were comfortable and welcome to ask for anything they needed.
After eating their food and Ahsoka assuring them it was fine, Trace and her family left a few minutes after seven, even taking care of their trash.
Though to outsiders some of this would seem like common sense, Ahsoka knew that most didn't act like this towards workers in the service industry, like her.
Seeing as it was past seven and no one else was in, Ahsoka and Jesse set to cleaning tables, chairs, stools, booths, and floors. The kitchen staff began putting away and storing ingredients.
It was now about 7:30. Ahsoka had just finished deep cleaning booths and putting up the chairs and stools. She was behind the terminal working with the kitchen staff to help them put up the last of their things when the phone rings.
"Hello, Dex's Diner, this is Ahsoka. How can I help you?"
"Yes. My name is Ventress and I'm calling from Maz Kannada's down the street that y'all are partnered with, and I wanted to place an order for y'all to bring here."
"I'm sorry ma'am, but our kitchen is closed." Ahsoka said, looking around at the spotless cleaning job she'd done, then looking over at the kitchen which they had just finished deep cleaning/scrubbing. "But our bar is open."
"I don't want a drink. I'm at Maz Kannada's. I want dinner."
"I'm sorry ma'am our kitchen and food services are closed."
"But your website says you don't close until 10."
"Yes ma'am. But today is a holiday and me, my coworkers, and the other members on staff tonight are closing early so we can spend the holiday with our families."
"But I want dinner."
"I understand that ma'am. But as I said, our kitchen is closed. It closed at 7. But our bar is open until 9 tonight."
"Fine. Ok." Ventress hung up and Ahsoka looked at the phone before placing it down and going to take a drink of water as she shook her head. The plain thoughts of 'I don't get paid enough for this' circling.
Ten minutes goes by and the end of Ashoka's shift is approaching. So naturally she is getting ready to leave, when the door opens. In walks a lady and her husband. Given as Ahsoka is getting ready to leave, the kitchen is finishing deep cleaning (visible from terminal), and the chairs are put up on the tables, one would assume it was obvious that food was no longer being served. Well, and the bold, all-caps note on the door that declared the kitchen and floor were no longer serving, but the bar was open for another hour and ten minutes ish.
The lady walked up to the terminal and Ahsoka put on her best costumer service face and voice. Before Ahsoka could say anything, the other lady spoke, "I'm Ventress. We spoke over the phone and I have come to order my dinner."
Ahsoka mentally groaned and smiled, "Ma'am, as discussed on the phone, our kitchen is closed."
"You said you couldn't deliver food to me. You didn't say anything about me coming down and ordering it. I just came all the way here for my dinner, and I want it."
Ahsoka did everything she could to not lose her cool. By this point it is past her shift but she can't just leave with this going on and her being the only one at the terminal. "Ma'am I said our kitchen is closed, meaning we are not serving any food now. However, our bar is open if you would like something."
"I just came from the bar! I don't want a drink! I want dinner."
That bar that is 'all the way down' is four doors over...
This exchange continued for another 15 minutes before Jesse showed up on the side just behind the costumer and was signaling for Ahsoka to just adhere to the costumer. Ahsoka finally sighed, "what can I get you?"
Ventress and her husband order at least one item from every section of the menu, causing Ahsoka, Jesse, and the kitchen staff to re-dirty the whole kitchen and get everything back out. Ahsoka and Jesse helped the kitchen staff in order to repay them for the inconvenience.
Ventress payed her bill and left no tip.
When Ahsoka finally brought out their food, Ventress and her husband complained about them being slow and not having good service.
Did I mention?
Instead of sitting at open bar stools as to not dirty more of the spotless cleaning job Ahsoka had worked on while Jesse restocked, Ventress and her husband took chairs down from a bigger table and spread things out.
Unlike Trace and her family, Ventress and her husband spread their trash across the table, didn't clean up spills, and were disrespectful to Ahsoka and Jesse.
Ventress commented that it was Ahsoka and the other servers' job to clean, not theirs.
Ahsoka had stayed an extra hour plus at this point and was done. Jesse came to her, apologized for the inconvenience and hassle and told her to head home, he would take care of the rest. Ahsoka checked if he was sure, and when he said yes, she gathered her things, said goodbye to Jesse and the bartender, apologized to the kitchen staff, and left.
This experience would make for one of those stories to add to the list.
~~~~~~~~~~
This experience did actually happen to me and has to be one of, if not my least favorite nights.
Loved the woman that Trace represents in this.
Not a fan of Ventress. Ventress even pulled the "costumer is always right" card. And I was like, "scuse you? How can you be right in this?"
Anyway. Yes true story. And I hope it never happens again.
