E2 - YOU'RE DOING WHAT?!?

Travis

What was I thinking?

I mean, I knew what I was thinking, at the time. But now, a week later, I'm conflicted about it. If that's even a strong enough term. I guess freaking out is a better one.

"What's up with you today? Dude, you're a zombie," Luc says. He's right. I basically forgot he was here. We are planning the next Camping With Travis episode. I pulled Gabe Conte aside at Lacey's launch and got him to agree to be on.

"Just thinking. Sorry. What were you saying about that trail?" I asked, trying to focus back on our task, instead of brooding over my impulsive promise to Lacey.

Damn. It was a plan, not a promise. Which meant it was happening. In six months. I'd probably be fine with it in six months, right? I loved her enough to be fine with it. It's just that I had been delirious with exhaustion the night before and thought about our future kids and, dang. In my messed up brain it sounded so good. Now that I'm wide awake, it's freaking me the heck out.

"Bro! Are you even listening?" Luc is looking at me and I have no idea what he just said, again.

"Ugh...no I guess I'm not." I rub my face with both hands, suddenly wiped out from all of the thoughts running through my head.

"Stop overthinking it. Because that's what you're doing now."

"How'd you know what I'm thinking?"

Luc just smirks at me. "Our girlfriends are tight, man. Yours tells mine everything, obviously. And I know all about your plans."

Perfect. I open my mouth to say something, but then shut it immediately. What the hell am I even going to say to that?

Luc beats me to it. "Listen, we all saw this coming the second you two got out of the cab after your camping trip. It's a good thing, the right decision. And you haven't done the deed yet, by actually asking. Calm down and enjoy the moment, man."

I shake my head. "Who are you and what have you done to my normally bat-crazy friend?"

"It's called love, bro. You know what I mean."

He's right. Love messes you up, but in a pretty damn good way. "Yeah, very true. How are things going, by the way. It's been a few days."

Luc just smiles. "Better than I imagined. Sophie's easing in to the idea slowly. But I think I've figured out a way for it to work."

"Right, tricking her brain into thinking she's just staying for a while, not moving in. Lacey told me."

"That...and something else I'm working on."

Now he had my full attention. "And what would that be?"

"No way. You'll tell Lacey, and she'll tell Sophie. Surprise over. I need to secure the details before I spill the plan."

Plans. The four of us and our plans...what a team we make. Which brings me back to the reason Luc came by in the first place.

"Okay, back to business. Map out that trail for me. If I'm taking Gabe mountain biking, I need a trail we can both handle." Luc is the biker, I'm the climber, jumper, hiker...all the other stuff. I need his expertise.

"Right. Like I've already said twice, the trail is pretty mellow. Except for the turn right here. It takes you right to the edge of the cliff, with a thirty foot drop. So probably walk that curve, don't barrel through."

"Easy for you to say." I shake my head again. The last thing I need is a banged up Gabe Conte. Jess would pound me if I sent him back in a wheelchair. "Hey, let's go run the trail together next week. That way I'll know the places to watch for and I won't have to take Gabe to the hospital."

"Yeah, that's cool. It'll give Sophie a chance to go home without me missing her too much." Luc confesses. I don't think he meant to say that, though, based on his expression after it leaves his mouth.

"Aww, a little bit whipped, are you?" I can't resist messing with him. It's too easy.

"Shut up, you're just as whipped. Now let me borrow your camera. Soph and I need some pictures around the house."

"Get your own camera, man! According to Lacey, you can afford about fifty."

"And that's why I can afford them. I borrow stuff from you. Hand it over, brah."

He's got a point. I should probably take some notes on his spending habits if I want to afford the ring I'm planning to buy. And yes, that is the plan.

^^^^^

This was a tough one to write, because I had everyone else's epilogue figured out but Travis'. Anyway, The girls are up next week! Keep clicking!! 💋🎄
