Early Mornings

The sky is so pale, pale enough that the top is a light blue and lower, by the dark silhouettes of trees, it is white. It seems so surreal, that sky should be white, but early in the morning is when the fabric of reality is stretched enough that anything is possible.

You know that the grass is damp with dew, shining like a hundred jewels under the eyes of the moon. No birds are chirping yet, it is still far too early for them to be up. Instead, you hear the crickets, faint, outside of your open window.

It is peaceful, you decide. The house is quiet, all of its other inhabitants are sleeping, but you aren't. You stay awake, swaddled in your blankets that ground you in this world instead of allowing you to fly off into a universe of your own making. Your head is spinning, drowsy and unsure of what is real. You have no sense of responsibility, this early, so you sit on your bed and think.

Amidst your thinking, you turn your head and look at your window. You notice the sky, for this early in the morning, it is pale enough to be white at the tips of dark trees. It is beautiful, you decide, to be up this early.

Content, you lay back down and snuggle deep into your covers. It doesn't take much for you to slip back into a deep slumber, watched over by the fairies and the fae.

Late Nights

This late at night, the sky outside of your room is pitch black. You cannot see out of your window, for the sun has left and the moon has yet to arrive. There are beetles on the screen of your window, but you can't find the strength to care.

Your eyes are gritty and your mouth is constantly yawning. You struggle to stay up, for you love the night more than anything. The freedom to be alone, no one else bothering you. Your parents leave you alone and you sit by yourself, and that's the beauty of it. You can read, undisturbed.

It isn't peaceful though, you decide. It is a constant battle between you and sleep, trying to stay awake while your body aches for sleep. You cling to consciousness, desperate for just a few more minutes to yourself. This late at night, it's a war between your mind and your body. You know your body will win eventually, but you need just a few more minutes. Your mind delays your sleep, but not for long.

While you sit on your bed, mind fuzzy and eyes squinting, you reach more epiphanies than ever. What a shame then, you think, for I will not remember any of this in the morning. You think correctly, for night is its own realm, and doesn't let any of your thoughts pass over into that of day.

Saddened, you roll over and sleep, knowing that morning will come far too early. It always does, and what a shame to end something that lovely. Now, you are dreaming, far off this planet and into the dreamworld. You sleep well, watched over by the witches and the wolves.
