Listen, do you want to know a secret? Do you promise not to tell?

A six year old boy toddled up to Anne while she sat in the sandbox at the local playground. "Hey, hey Annie!" He had a huge grin on his face.

Anne looked up from her sandcastle that was being formed in front of her. "What Georgie?" She set the little bucket of sand down next to her so she could pay attention to her friend easier.

"I learned something new today!" George plopped down in the sand next to her, the grin still not leaving his face.

"What did ya learn?" Anne asked him happily, a cute smile on her face. She went back to building her sandcastle, but kept her eyes on him.

"I learned what love is."

Anne looked puzzled. "You did?"

"Yeah."

"Then what is it?" Anne asked curiously.

George paused for a second, and then said, "My mommy told me that love is when you really care about somebody. You never wanna see them hurt or crying. You always wanna see them smiling and being happy. And you always wanna stay best friends." Of course, George didn't understand the full gist of being in love.

"That's what love is?" Anne asked him curiously, not knowing that was the truth.

"That's what my mommy said," George told her.

"Cool!" Anne had a huge smile on her face.

"Oh, oh, guess what else?" George asked her, smiling.

"What?" Anne asked in response.

George had a sneaky look in his eyes. "It's a secret."

"Aw," Anne said, "then why'd you say it?"

"Because..." George began, and then said, "do you want to know a secret?"

"Yeah," Anne smiled happily.

"Promise not to tell anyone?"

"Promise!"

George beamed, and leaned over. "Closer," he said. "I wanna whisper in your ear."

"Okay," Anne said, and scooted closer to him. "What's the secret?"

"I love you, Annie," George told her with a cute smile. "You're my best friend in the whole wide world."

Anne grinned. "I love you too, Georgie," she said with a happy look in her eyes.

George smiled. "Yay," he said. "Wanna go play on the swings?"

"Okay," Anne said, and jumped up from the sandbox. "Let's go, Georgie!" She grinned as she ran to the swings. George followed her close by, a smile that matched hers on his face.

"Hey, Anne?" George looked down at his girlfriend as they sat on the beach under the stars one night.

"Yeah?" Anne looked away from the tide to meet his eyes.

"Do you want to know a secret?" He had a hint of nervousness in his voice.

"Yeah, of course. You know how much I love secrets," Anne said, looking up at him with a happy smile.

"Do you promise not to tell?" George asked, a small smile on his lips now.

"Oh, not this again," Anne said jokingly, laughing just a bit.

"Do you promise?" George asked her again, looking down at her.

"Yeah, I promise," Anne said, giving him a smile.

"Closer," George said, motioning for her to scoot even closer. "Let me whisper in your ear."

"You're a strange guy, you know that?" Anne asked, looking up at him.

"Come on, Annie. You'll want to know this one," he told her.

"Okay," Anne said, and scooted closer to him. "What is it?"

George gently put his lips to her ear and whispered, "I'm in love with you."

Anne's eyes were huge. "You...you're in love with me?"

"Yeah," George said with a small smile.

"I'm just...I'm really surprised," Anne said.

"I told you that when we were little, though," George said.

"Yeah, but I didn't think you meant it," Anne admitted.

"I didn't know what it meant then, but I do now, and I mean it," George said, giving her a small smile.

"Well, I think...no, I know that I'm in love with you too," Anne admitted, looking up at him with a small smile.

George grinned when she said that. He leaned in and connected their lips, and they shared a kiss under the moonlight.

But then it was disturbed by water tickling their bare feet, and moving up higher onto the shore. They broke the kiss and jumped up, running out of the tide with a laugh, having a great time with the one they loved most.

Anne turned to face George after they left the sanctuary. She smiled happily at him. "This is the best day of my life," she told him.

"Mine too," George smiled, kissing her happily for just a quick second. "Seeing you walk down the aisle to me...perfect," he told her.

Anne smiled. "Seeing you waiting for me at the front of the sanctuary, I couldn't have been happier," she told him.

George grinned, and held her in his arms. "Hey, Annie, do you want to know a secret?"

"I promise not to tell," Anne said with a happy smile. This didn't annoy hher anymore. She happened to think it was cute. It was just their thing now.

"Lean in closer," George whispered.

"So you can whisper in my ear," Anne finished it off. "And say the words I long to hear."

"I'm in love with you," the two of them said in unison, smiling at each other. And after they finished, George and Anne shared another kiss as husband and wife.
