Chapter 14: News Report II

Soon after watching the news report Kyle got another text message. This time from Terrence calling for a meeting in the abandoned building while putting on hold his task of finding out what was in the microchip.

He found Terrence in the computer room looking at the computer screens while Daniel worked.

"Have you seen the news?" Terrence asked Kyle as soon as he entered.

"Yeah, I did. Same symptoms as the victims of the quarantined village," Kyle answered.

Terrence nodded, "Daniel managed to finish deciphering the encryptions an hour ago. Those encryptions were for satellite access." He motioned to a couple of screens. "It seems we've got several bystanders watching the turn of events in Danskork Republic quite closely."

The rest of the screens displayed live aerial view of the major cities of Danskork Republic.

"Were you able to find out who they are?" Kyle asked, studying the screens.

"Working on it. So far, I managed to track back one of the signals to a warehouse here along the coast," Daniel answered.

"A warehouse! Not to the company branch that we are assigned into investigating here in Miami?" Kyle wondered.

"They might have changed their location for precaution of being compromised," Terrence pointed out.

"And the branch in Toronto must be in the game as well," Kyle concluded as he claimed one of the keyboards and took a seat.

"Confirming that! Try tracing the other three," Daniel suggested. Pointing at the three blinking dots in a screen.

"Report to me once you have confirmed everything. I'll be in the next room." Terrence Ordered, leaving the room.

Kyle and Daniel were called to the plain office that held the flat screen behind the desk. Terrence had a troubled look that hadn't existed before his report to the headquarters.

"The headquarters is going to send special government forces instead of White Cell's tactical team to the locations of all of the observers. We on the other hand were given orders to back them up on the field," Terrence explained while typing something on the keyboard.

"Special government forces!" Kyle exclaimed, surprised.

"Why wouldn't they send the tactical team as usual and why do we need to be on the field backing the special government forces? can't we do the backing up from here as always!" Daniel retorted.

"Orders are orders!" Terrence snapped back then sighed. "I know you're not fond of being out in the field especially since it's a bust operation but our tactical teams are on their way to Danskork Republic as we speak. They will be engaged in several missions pertaining the virus outbreak and even if they managed to clear a team for us it would take time for them to fly here. The organization's protocol is clear that in case of requesting assistance from special government force of a county the team that is assigned to that country should be present and participating with the operation on field as the representative of White Cell."

"When would the operation undergo?" Kyle seemed thrilled.

"In a few hours, which is another reason for White Cell to ask for the Special Government Forces to take over," Terrence replied.

"A few hours!" Daniel said, cheerless.

"Yes, because it's obvious that what Danskork Republic is experiencing a pandemic. Their government is just delaying the announcement to prevent panic spreading among their citizens but they won't be able to keep it that way for long. It's just a matter of hours before they would be forced to declare it with all the media reporting. White Cell doesn't want to risk this virus spreading elsewhere. It would be a greater catastrophe to manage," Terrence emphasized.

With another click on the keyboard two pictures appeared on screen. Two faces of men in their thirties looking healthy.

"Time is an essence in this situation. Two members of our Danskork team had died already within the last hour from the virus."

Terrence clicked the keyboard again. This time, the faces of both agents looked very sick with black veins spreading across it with bloodshot eyes.

"How long did it take for the virus to kill them?" Kyle asked disturbed by the knowledge of that even the trained agents weren't spared from the virus' wrath.

"6-8 hours till death. At the first hour, they experienced high fever and lost of appetite then aching joints. Third hour, dizziness and black veins spreading. The last two hours, they've experienced nausea and disorientation by which that time the black veins had engulfed the entire body,'' Terrence explained.

"Are the other team members experiencing the symptoms?" Kyle asked.

"So far, no! Though they've been in contact with the other two," Terrence replied.

"So, it's not airborne," Daniel chimed.

"Yes, that's the good news," Terrence affirmed.

"And the bad news?" Kyle demanded.

"Bad news, no antibiotics work," Terrence relayed.
