Chapter 70

I woke up in my quarters of the cruiser with a yawn, stretching my arms above my head. Stepping into the hallway I noticed it seemed oddly empty, feeling very little in the force as well. The last thing I remember before I went to sleep was that we had been travelling through hyperspace into a battle, but no alarms woke me to signal we had arrived yet.

"I should check the bridge" I thought to myself. Walking through the ship calmly and quietly I heard a voice which sent panic shooting through my whole body.

"Roger Roger" with a gasp I had hidden behind the wall just in time for them to pass, not noticing me.

"Battle droids?" I questioned at the sight, tilting my head in confusion. "Somethings wrong" I snuck around, seeing more droids as I worked my way towards the bridge to figure out what had happened.

"Take the clones armour, they won't be needing it anymore" a mysterious separatist voice told the lead droid who had stood in the bridge.

"Roger Roger"

"What happened to the clones?" I asked myself in a mere whisper while I stood behind the wall and listened in.

"You heard him, take the clones armour and rid this ship of their body's" a gasp escaped my mouth and the droids turned towards me. I quickly jumped up into the vents before they could spot me, letting out a soft sigh as they went back to their orders.

"Kriff, they killed the troopers" a frown overtook my face as I suddenly remembered who I was working with on the cruiser. "Rex" quickly maneuvering my way through the ships vents I had dropped down in the empty hallway of my quarters and rushed to the door. I looked back to see Rex walking towards me, helmet tucked under his arm showing off his clones face flashing a shy smile. He quickly looked away to make it seem as though he wasn't staring, but I had caught him with a gentle smile, forgetting momentarily about the problem on board.

The heavy footsteps of clones boots came from the other end of the hallway and panic set in once again. Acting on instinct I grabbed Rex and pulled him into a storage closet across the hall. He grunted in surprise at the sudden movement and my actions before he noticed how close we stood.

"Oh, I'm sorry, sir" he quickly apologized, standing chest to chest with me, looking anywhere except towards me. Placing a hand over his mouth he gasped slighting in surprise again while I kept him quiet, peaking out the slightly open door to watch the droid pass while wearing stollen clone armour.

"Sorry about that" I removed my hand. "Where have you been?"

"I was working in my quarters when I noticed the ship was oddly quiet and went to investigate."

"Well as far as I'm aware, our ship has been hijacked and the droids don't know we are here."

"But we just saw a trooper." He reasoned.

"That was a droid warring clone trooper armour. They must have gotten onto our ship before the men could react and took over, there were no survivors other than us" I explained the situation with disappointment.

"Well, General, what's our plan?"

"We need to take back the ship, call for reinforcements and take down all of the droids" I listed off the important steps.

"We should start with taking down the droids" he suggested as I agreed with the plan. Walking out of the closet we both looked each way to make sure it was clear. "I'll head to the armoury and get some things to help us"

"No, we need to stick together. They'll know something is wrong if we set off any explosions or heavy gunfire" I reminded, reaching for my sabers and getting them ready to cut down some droids. "We have to be quiet and fast"

"Yes, sir. After you" Rex put his helmet on and followed as I ran through the halls stealthily. I would cut the blaster from the droids hand or push it back with the force while Rex would shoot them, taking them down for good.

"Good work, now we just need to take the bridge" I looked up at him once the ship seemed clear of most droids.

"I can go in the main door as a distraction and you can drop in from the vents"

"I like the way you think" I smiled at the next plan. Jumping into the vents I waited for the signal of blaster fire. The door opened and Rex started shooting them down while I dropped down in front of him and cut down each of the droids with one swift motion.

"General, you might want to see this" he directed my attention towards the space outside when the bridge was secured, helmet once again tucked under his arm. I moved to stand beside him and see the large fleet of a separatist blockade, eyes going wide.

"Oh no, we need to contact the Jedi council now" I urged, rushing towards the command room to transmit a message. "This is General Lyra Jayko, I am in urgent need of backup. There is a separatist blockade outside of the planet of Lothal. I have one republic cruiser, but the crew was killed in action. Please send help" I finished the transmission and stood beside Rex again, staring out at the blockade and desperately hoping someone would save us in time.

"General Jayko, we are sending a fleet lead by General Skywalker" Windu replied to my plead for help.

"Thank you, Master"

"Lyra?" Anakins voice crackled through next.

"I'm here"

"Where is Rex? Is he alright?"

"He's right beside me, only survivor" I sighed.

"Well I'm relieved to know you two are alright. Now do you have a plan of how to take down the blockade?" Anakin questioned.

"This ship is no longer usable since we have no crew to control it" I stated.

"Uh huh" Anakin followed my train of thought.

"What if we set it to crash into the blockade while rex and I escape on a fighter" I suggested.

"Wow, I'd never expect an idea like that from you, Lyra" I could hear the proud smile in his voice as he spoke. "Let's do it. Are you sure you will both be able to get off in time?"

"I'll set the coordinates, Rex get the ship ready" I gave out the orders to the only other survivor. Rushing to the controls I had set the coordinates to where the separatist blockade sat.

"Jayko, we're here, it's time to go" Anakin urged as his ship jumped out of hyperspace behind our own.

"Alright, I'm coming" I replied, rushing through the cruiser towards the hanger.

"Come on!" Rex called out from his pilots seat.

"Do you even know how to fly this?" I asked getting in the back of the star fighter.

"I've flown before, I'm just not a trained pilot" he claimed before pulling us out of the cruiser moments before it crashed into the others.

"Rex!" I shouted from my seat as he crashed into the hanger of the Resolute. "No, no, no" I hopped out of the ship to see it burning with smoke and noticed Rex was still inside. As a group of clones worked to put out the fire I had rushed over to save Rex. I coughed from the smoke, covering my mouth as I cut open the hatch, pulling out the Captain and jumping down to set him safely on the ground.

"I've got him from here" Kix helped to lift him onto a stretcher before carrying him off to the med bay urgently. I found my way to the bridge knowing the Captain was in good hands.

"I have to admit that was a good plan." Anakin congratulated me as we jumped through hyperspace again to arrive at our meeting with the republic.

"Thank you" I smiled back proudly.

"The worst part about our job are these boring strategy conferences." Anakin complains from the ship we had been waiting on for the meeting to start.

"Cheer up, Anakin. This is your chance to voice all your complaints about military protocol. And it looks as though we can finally get under way." Obi Wan looked out of the window to see the last ship incoming.

"I will inform Master Windu the last straggler has arrived while you work on your attitude." Obi Wan told him, moving to walk down to the Center of the meeting hall where Windu and a few others stood chatting to pass the time.

"Im gonna go check on the 212th" I said to Anakin, getting tired of waiting around.

"Could you gather my boys as well?" Anakin asked.

"Yeah, I'll go do that now" I started off towards the group of clone dressed in blue when Anakin spoke up again.

"Isn't that ship coming in a little too fast?" Anakin questioned at the sight of the Jedi cruiser speeding towards us. I paused my walking and ran back to Anakin's side, knowing this would be more important than a simple military meeting.

"The cruiser has not slowed its pace." Tarkin reported as everyone got into fight mode, unable to do anything though since we were on a cruiser.

"Have you been able to contact their captain?" Anakin questioned as a droid beeped back in response.

"Z9 says he cannot make contact with anyone." Tarkin told us quickly.

"Where's R2 when I need him?" Anakin sighed, his droid on a mission away from us.

"What's the status on that ship?" I questioned. "Any cargo?"

"We are scanning a large amount of rhydonium on that ship!" Tarkin reported back once more.

"It's a bomb." I gasped at the realization. "Everyone hold on" I ordered everyone close by. The ship blew up in bright colours before us, watching from the window as it shook us in the blast.

"And you thought this conference would be boring." Obi Wan smirked to Anakin, all of us trying to get to our feet again.

"Mayday! Mayday! Space station Valor, this is Colonel Meebur Gascon. Can anyone hear me?" A voice commed in.

"We read you, Colonel. This is General Skywalker. What's going on out there?" Anakin responded to the distress signal.

"Slight change in our mission, General. The droids and I were stowaways on that cruiser."

"Where's R2?" Anakin worried for his droid who had been on that very mission.

"I'm sorry to report he was on that ship when it blew up, sir. He just saved all your lives."

"I want a salvage team out there now!" Anakin demanded quickly at the news, ordering men out.

"Yes, sir."

"Does this mean the meeting is postponed?" I looked to my former Master with slight hope.

"I'm afraid not, Lyra" he smiled at my enthusiasm to cancel the meeting. With a nod I went back to what I had been doing before, going to get the troopers of the 212th and 501st.

"You alright General? That was quite the rumble" Cody asked as I joined the two battalions.

"I'm perfectly fine, the situation is all under control" I explained to them, easing their worries. "I came to let you all know that the meeting will be starting in a few moments" and with that I walked off, unaware of the Captain in blue watching me leave.
