Chapter 07
I was filing some reports from the outpost check ins when I needed Rex to sign off on the report of Rishi outpost. Starting through the base to find him I walked towards the 501st barracks to see if I could find him or find out where he was but instead I was met by the entire 501st and their captain running towards me in a rush.
"Captain Rex, can you—?"
"Commander, get down!" He tackled me to the ground, catching me off guard. I groaned at the impact before flinching at the sound of an explosion. Rex quickly moved back so that he wasn't on top of me and I sat up to send him a look for answers, but was met with an awkward shrug. Standing up himself he had offered me a hand, but I also got up on my own and dusted myself off.
"Did the 501st barracks just explode?" Kenobi joined us all, crossing his arms as he faced Rex and I for answers.
"Captain, care to explain?" I sent him a look to which he glared back at his brothers, still scrambling to get up and look professional in front of the Jedi.
"Hold on, Obi Wan" Anakin strut over casually to save his men. "They ran into a weapons problem inside the barracks, I'll deal with it" he waved off Obi Wan who left with a sigh, not wanting to deal with this anyway.
"I don't want to know" I waved Rex off as he was about to speak. "Just sign here, please" I held out the data pad that had been dropped from my hand. He signed it and gave it back before watching as I walked away. His men laughing away behind him at the whole incident.
"Are you alright, my Padawan?" Kenobi asked as I joined him in walking away from the 501st.
"Yes, Master, thanks to Captain Rex"
"He's a good man" he agreed with me. "We have another mission soon, I suggest you get ready" I nodded back at him before rushing to put away the data pad and prepare for the mission ahead.
~~~
"Master Kenobi has just landed on the separatist cruiser" I reported, walking into the bridge to stand beside Rex.
"Good" he nodded, looking down at me briefly before looking ahead again as I made no motion to look anywhere but the battle ahead in space.
"Let's try not to blow up the ship before they get off this time" Ahsoka stepped up beside Rex and I. We stood in the bridge of the ship, watching as we shot at the separatist ship where our masters were currently on board.
"Lyra, Dooku managed to escape. We're in pursuit, but we could use reinforcements. Follow us in what ships you can round up." Obi Wan called back through comms for backup.
"We'll get there as soon as we can." I promised my Master. He flys away in his ship with Anakin as I go back to work. "We need to go give them reinforcements!" I called out while walking towards the hanger.
"Coming!" Ahsoka chased after me as we hopped onto a gunship and gathered together some clones from the 212th and 501st.
"We are landing now!" The pilot shouted back to us.
"Great!" I called out to let him know my thanks for the heads up. As soon as the gunship landed on the planet below we all rushed over to find a cave that was blocked with rocks.
"Where are they commander?" A clone questioned from behind as I closed my eyes and felt their presence in the force.
"Behind those rocks, in the cave" I tell the team. "Set up some explosives to get them out" I ordered, the men following my instructions. Soon the rocks were blown up and the light flooded into the once dark cave that had been holding our Masters inside.
"Master!" Ahsoka called to our Masters as they walked out to join us again. They looked ill and were each having a coughing fit while they stood to their feet and exited the dark cave.
"Looks like we got here just in time." I walked over to help them out.
"What do you mean, 'just in time'?" Anakin brushed himself off.
"You were in very big trouble." Ahsoka pointed out to the pair as if it was obvious, which it was.
"Trouble? We were simply searching for Count Dooku." Obi Wan stood up straighter to save his pride.
"We had the situation well under control, my little Padawan." Anakin tells us proudly.
"Oh I see. So which part of the situation did you have under control: the blocked entrance, the poison gas, or that gundark behind you?" I questioned their claim.
"Gundark?" Anakin started to worry, turning back slightly to check.
"You mean the one that's too far away to worry about?" Obi Wan laughs. His face suddenly dropped as he too looked back to see the incoming Gundark.
"Block the entrance." I ordered my men, pointing in the direction of the beast. They follow orders and shoot down the rocks up top, to cave in and block the creature back inside.
"There's still Dooku to deal with." Anakin walked past us.
"You let him get away?" Ahsoka questioned her Master as we moved to follow back to the gunships.
"No, not get away exactly. Just... Chime in anytime." Anakin urged his former Master as Ahsoka and I gave them dissaponted looks.
"Oh, no. I'm enjoying this far too much." Obi Wan crossed his arms with a smirk.
"Master!" I scolded.
"Fine, when we landed we followed him into the cave but were crushed by rocks while he escaped temporarily" Obi Wan claimed.
"So you let him get away?" I questioned to clarify. The two men sighed before answering together.
"Yes"
"That's what I thought" with that I walked back onto the gunship to take us to the resolute up above, Ahsoka right behind me.
"Incoming transmission from the Jedi council, sir" a trooper approached us as we stepped off the gunship and into the hanger. We all nodded while making our way back to the bridge to receive the transmission.
"His only stipulation is that you arrive unarmed." The hologram of Master Windu explained.
"Unarmed?" Anakin questioned with anger at the thought of it.
"We know very little about these pirates. We may be walking blind into what could very well be a hostile situation." Obi Wan pointed out the problem.
"We can't let Dooku slip through our fingers again. Report back as soon as you arrive." Mace orders. He ends the transmission after giving his final warning, leaving the two Masters to complete the mission and capture Dooku.
"Well this should be fun." My master sarcastically commented, all of us looking to him.
The two men had just returned from being held captive by the pirates along with Dooku. Representative Binks was sent to negotiate with a few clones on their release, chaos following the Gungan.
"Master!" Ahsoka cheered, running away from Rex, Cody and I and towards our Masters. I laughed a little at her enthusiasm before following her towards the two men.
"Hello Masters" I greeted them. "How was your mission?" They just responded with a look to each other and a slight laugh.
"Are you going to tell us?" Ahsoka urged as they moved past us without a word.
"Come on" I begged, taking a page from Ahsoka's book and relaxing a little.
"Rex, Cody" Anakin nodded to the men. They laughed as our Masters continued to avoid giving us answers.
"Please" Ahsoka begged, still following them through the halls.
~~~
"Lyra, you have been requested to help Anakin in the search and rescue of his crew from their latest mission" My Master informed me as I was walking back from the temple library.
"When do I leave?"
"Now"
I flew my own fighter towards the location of Skywalkers latest mission which had gone south. Landing on the surface I was met with dozens of injured clones and a dusty planet.
"Lyra, I'm glad you could help" Anakin greeted as I stepped out of the fighter and made my way towards him to see what I could do.
"Master Kenobi said he could spare me for a few days" I replied back with a calm shrug.
"And I'm thankful for that. We have found a few troopers, but there are still a dozen stuck below" he looked down into the rubble of a collapsed building structure that had been a separatist trap.
"I'll do my best to help" I promised. He nodded, walking off to talk with some troopers while I decided to meditate and feel for the survivors through the force. "There's someone over there!" I pointed, running over to the spot I had felt a person.
"Are you sure?" The rescue team asked.
"Positive" I nodded back and they dug to find the person and pull them out. After hours of working and digging to find survivors everyone was exhausted and covered in dirt, needing to rest and recover.
"Well I think that's all of them" Anakin started. "Rex, go get Lyra" he told the clone as I was still searching through the force, a feeling in my gut telling me we were not done.
"It's time to go" the clone Captain announced from beside me.
"Not yet, there's still someone down there" I protested calmly, not breaking my meditation.
"We can't get everyone out, it's time to go" he urged again, feeling we had done all we could have to save the clones trapped inside.
"No!" I stood abruptly. His eyes widened in shock that I shouted at him before I ran off to find the last person, not giving up so easily.
"Commander Jayko!" He shouted, rushing after me. I stood still as the ground was unstable and I lifted a large piece of rubble with the force, pushing it back as I grabbed the person who had been stuck.
"Take him" I helped the trooper get up to where Rex was and began climbing back up myself but I lost my footing and fell back. A gloved hand caught mine and pulled me up to safety. "Thank you" I looked to the Captain who had saved me. He only nodded silently while pulling me back to my feet, in disbelief that I would put myself at risk like that for a single clone trooper.
"Good work, Jayko" Anakin nodded down at me. "Obi Wan would be proud"
"Sir?" Rex asked, knowing what I did was reckless and against orders.
"She was trusting her instincts, it's what she does" Anakin shrugged to his Captain before walking me towards a medic.
