It was odd in itself. I read over my file a thousand times. Hwang Hyunjin was my brother. I had been living with my brother all this time. He possibly had some answers that I desperately wanted.

I sat across from him. "Why did they give me up ? Were you ever aware you had a sister ?" Hyunjin was in shock as much as she was. "I never knew about you. I have no idea of why they gave you up."

She knew there was a possibility that no one was willing to see her. However, she wanted to take that chance. "Can you call them ?"

Hyunjin dialed the home number. His mother answered. "When are you coming home, young man ? We never see you anymore." Hyunjin has always had a good bond with his parents. What he was about to ask would possibly be the most difficult thing he has ever asked before. "저는 황예지라는 여자와 함께 앉아 있습니다. 그녀는 내 여동생이니? 너는 그녀를 포기했니?" (I am sitting with a woman named Hwang Yeji. Is she my sister ? Did you give her up ?)

The line was silent a few moments. His mother clearly was in shock, "We couldn't take care of her. It was best she be placed with people who could provide for her." Yeji teared up slightly. Hyunjin felt horrible. "Do you think you'll give it a try ? Will you get to know Yeji ?"

Mrs. Hwang never wanted this day to come. She had always expected Yeji to move on & bond with who she was left in the care of. Why did she have to find Hyunjin ? "By law she is no longer my child. We gave up our parental rights. I hope she is well."

Yeji knew exactly what she meant. "You won't see me because you wish I never found out, am I right ?" Hyunjin felt torn. He has bonded with Yeji & they have a great friendship. In other words, he didn't wish for this to end with anyone hurt. His mother sighed,"네 인생을 계속해. 당신은 당신의 시간만 낭비 하고 있어요." (Move on with your life. You're wasting your time.)

The call soon ended. This left Hyunjin & Yeji in silence. Would she give up ? How did Hyunjin feel ? Will they suggest the idea with a new approach ?

All she ever wanted was her family. She'll have to work harder to get what she wanted. Yeji was going to give it her all.
