FlaUta
Oki Imma lowkey vent about County Band for a lil bit, so if you don't care to read it you can move on with your day, I just can't stop thinking~
sO last year, I got in at second flute, fourth chair, and after reauditions, I was sent to last chair, which was chill after the initial shock and crap, cause we were auditioned on a part I didn't know as much, and several of the other second flutes weren't really confident and the person seated next to me got in with last chair and moved up to eighth chair, so I eventually convinced myself that I wasn't a bad player after a while
bUt that's not what I'm here to complain about~
This year, I basically have two goals:
First is my solid goal, as in I really hope to make it: get a higher initial chair than last year (second flute, fourth chair) and higher than super duper last chair in reauditions
Second is my loose goal, as in I'd be REALLY hyped if I accomplish it: make it to first flute
I don't care if I get last chair first flute, cause that's more advanced than second flute altogether, and it'll get me closer to more experienced people in hopes of me picking things up
Plus, I'd be able to expand my "flute vocabulary" by being more fluent in the highest notes
Arlo is probably helping with that, but it's still different from Spirit cause the tone hole is different size, but Arlo is helping my air in general
I'm already practicing my scales so that I'll get a better score in that section this year without having it be last minute
I wanta get ahold of the audition piece soon, cause the band director already has it
If I remember, Imma ask during activity period tomorrow and hopefully get it either that day or the next, cause I'm dedicated to becoming a better player I am now and an experienced player in general
Plus, it's so sATISFYING when improvement happens, cause comparing myself to my fourth grade self on that first lesson I've ever had, I can really see the difference
I went from not being able to go from note to note at all with the flute up to being able to do sixteenth notes
I can play the heckin chromatic scale up to the highest Bb (cause I dunno the fingering for B natural up until like last Saturday), all the way up and down faster and more fluidly than I could last year, and in fourth grade I didn't even know that a chromatic scale was
Heck, for the longest time I couldn't play the highest Eb without it sounding screechy until like early last year or so, and that's an accomplishment
Sure, I still have plenty of things I can't do, like flutter tongue or the pit book, but compared to what I could do in fourth grade, anything is an accomplishment
That's another thing I started doing: comparing myself to my past self rather than other people
It's better than comparing myself to other people, and it's mentally healthier I've found, so yeet
Keeks Advice 2017
But yee, Spirit and Arlo are fun, so I wanta do the things *dabb*
