Chapter One: Before

My family and I had never hurt anyone before, so why did it have to happen to us.

We were always a content, cheerful type of family before our lifes changed into a never ending nightmare.

They took the beings I loved the most away from us. My siblings and I were only safe when we slept because our minds were still with our parents. For that I would never forgive them.

I'll tell you what happened that changed my life forever.

It was going to be glorious sunny day, with a slight breeze that tickled my fluffy, puppy like fur. Mr Pidgeotto and his newly born chicks was 'flying' around the forest at late sunrise. The Sun was slowly erupting from the horizon, with astounding colours exploding as far as the eye could see. The clouds were like giant marshmallows that looked fluffy and silky to see and probably touch. The Sun's rays danced in unison across trees that blossomed all kinds of beautiful leaves. This site was all too breathtaking.

'Today is gonna be awesome, I'm going to battle Ember, Dust and Flicker so we can all see I am the strongest Growlithe!!!!! ' I thought with a devilish smile on my face.

I am the oldest, my name is Flame. You can tell me apart from my brother's and sister because I have a longer tail then everyone else, I'm also the biggest!

Obviously before everything happened I was immature, and only cared about battling, getting stronger and all the things a regular growing Pokemon would think of. I never imagined that I had to grow up a lot sooner then expected.

The next oldest Growlithe is Dust, he doesn't really like to play as he portrays himself to be the weakest, and he always losses anyway. He also acts very different from the rest of us. Whether that's a good thing or not is up to you to decide.

Then it's my sister, Ember. She can be really sensitive at times so if I'd want to battle her I have to get my timing right, or all hell will break loose! Also apparently she is a really attractive Growlithe, well so my mother has told me many times before. That means if any wise guy is gonna go near her I'll distroy him.

Then it comes to my little bro Flicker, he can be really clumsy so he needs a lot of guidance from me. He's also the runt of the pack and he acts much more jokingly then the others and myself.

My thoughts were interrupted by the stern tone of my mother's voice,

"Flame, Dust, Ember, Flicker, come here now. You've all got some explaining to do."

Flicker, Ember and I were all sitting near the biggest oran berry tree in the forest. It truly was a magnificent tree, with gigantic berries sprinkled everywhere and large dark emerald leaves that glistened in the sun. When we heard our mum's voice we all ran back to our den, which was in the heart of the forest to hear the bad news.

"What do you think it's about Flame?" Questioned Ember, quickly walking ahead of Flicker and I.

"Ha, didn't you hear what Flame did to that really annoying Houndour that kept bragging about his moves?" Chuckled Flicker kicking at random leaves that fell from the trees.

"Yeah and when Flame did that thing to that weird Vulpix." Giggled Ember slowing down waiting for the two of us.

"And that time when Fla-" started Flicker.

"Ok, ok. I get it, I've done some stuff but surely it's not to do with me." I had to reassure myself even if my brother and sister wouldn't. I was dragging along behind the two of them while they both talked and giggled.

We finally made it to the outside of our den. It was a cool and refreshing part of the forest as there were many trees that loomed above casting their shadows below, onto us and our home.

Our parents were with a mother Swanna and her young Ducklett when we arrived.

"Um hello miss how are you?" Ember said trying to be polite.

"I have no time for small talk young lady but, I'm not ok because of all of you!"

"All of us aren't here actually and there is no need to speak to my sister like that, she was just trying to be friendly."
I growled, we don't even know this Pokemon and she was being rude to us.

"Flame, dear calm down." Soothed my mum. She was the only one who could shut me up in an instant.

"Don't speak to me like that young man! After all, you have bitten off all of Bubble's tail feathers and I would like you to get punished!" Squealed the Swanna.

"Who the heck is Bubble? Do you know a Bubble? Do you? I said turning to Ember and Flicker with my face scrunched up indicating that I knew nothing about a Bubble.

"No I don't! Should I?" Asked Ember confused.

"I don't have a clue." Smiled Flicker.

"Here is my beloved Bubble!" Honked the Swanna, presenting a rather ugly Ducklett.

"Go on dear tell me who hurt you" cooed the mother Swanna.

"H-h-he isn't h-here" sobbed the Ducklett.

My mum had been sitting on the forest floor looking into the eyes of the Ducklett with tears in her eyes. She was like Ember, really sensitive. My father on the other paw was lying down in a tree glaring at the small, no tailed Pokemon.

"I don't believe little Bubble is telling the whole truth" snarled my father.

My dad was the most powerful Pokemon in the whole forest and, he didn't take kindly to others that accused his children of something they claim they didn't do.

"Well I'm sorry Claw but, my Bubble said it was one of your children that just jumped on him and attacked him. I don't like to make accusations but, I also don't like to think of my son as a liar." Squeaked the Swanna.

There were a few moments of awkward silence where the Swanna and my father were having what looked like a staring competition but with a lot more hostility in the air.

Then it was interrupted by Dust bolting out from a bush. He looked like he had just ran around the whole of Sinnoh, Kanto and Johto regions put together. As soon as he looked up to say something his eyes fixed on the Ducklett, his whole body language changed immediately from exhausted but relaxed, to on edge and ready to pounce.

"YOU!!!" Barked Dust in a angry tone.

"Ah ha! It was you!" Shouted the mother Swanna.

"He attacked me not the other way round! The only thing I did was bite his tail feathers off in self defense!!" Started Dust.

"No I don't believe yo-" started Swanna.

Suddenly the ugly Ducklett looked incredibly guilty.

"It's true.... I d-did attack him b-b-" bawled Bubble.

"I am ever so sorry um I-I don't know what to say.... Um see you tomorrow have a good night." The Swanna looked absolutely appalled but she quickly made her exit so she didn't embarrass herself even more.

"I knew it" I heard my father say. He hopped down from the twisted old branch he had been lounging around on and looked at us all.

"If anyone in this forest attacks you for no reason fight back with all you got!"

"Ok dad!" We all yapped in unison.

When night fell something strange was in the air. A smell I had never smelt before. Both of my parents quickly nuzzled us into our den.

"Don't worry dears, just go to sleep and everything will be the same in the morning." My mother said with a hint of worry.

"Mum what's the matter? Why are you so scared, please tell us." Ember started to cry she could sense something was really wrong.

"Please don't cry sweetie it's just some-" my mum was cut off by a gigantic explosion near by.

"Don't move any of you, especially you Flame." My father warned us.

We watched our parents sprint off into the distance. A moment later there was an ominous glow to the left of us.

"That's fire!!!" Worried Dust, he started to pace up and down.

"Where's mum and dad? They should be back by now..." Flicker moaned, his eyes moving rapidly around our den.

I could hear fire now buzzing and crackling in the distance. The temperature was also increasing, I could even hear other Pokemon screaming somewhere. Even though night had fallen and the moon light casted it's beams everywhere it was getting lighter. It was the fire stampeding towards us.

Dust shot out of the den like a bullet and ran into the deeper part of the forest.

"DUST COME BACK" I roared. The buzz of the fire I could hear now claiming the grass, the trees and other Pokemon homes. I could barely hear anything else. The smoke was claiming my senses. I was choking, my eyes were tearing up, my lungs were burning. I couldn't breathe.

"Flame we have to go after him and fast!" Shouted Ember.

"Go go go" screamed Flicker, fright was taking over him completely.

As we ran for our lives through the forest, all we could see was mass destruction everywhere. Fire was everywhere, some wild water Pokemon were trying to put out the licking flames but they weren't dying down.

"Mum, Dad, Dust." Ember cried, her voice getting quieter with each name she spoke.

"Come on sis, I promise you we will find them!" I said, my voice breaking up. I was trying to fight back the tears caused by despair, dejection, fear and the smoke that slowly strangled me.

All of a sudden I felt a familiar body apon Ember, Flicker and I.

"I told you to stay inside! What are you doing here?!" It was our dad but, for the first time he looked really worried.

We explained to him that Dust just ran out of the den and we are trying to find him, but we got interrupted by a deafening sound.

**ROAAARRRRRR**

"Hey look boss, an Arcanine and a little Growlithe shall we take em?" A strange gurgling voice said.

"Hah yeah that Arcanine looks powerful!" replied a deep cold voice.

We watched as these weird beings shot at our mother and brother. They hit their targets and in a matter of seconds both Pokemon fell to the ground, not moving an inch. Then a moving vehicle backed up towards them. It had a cold iron cage attached to the back of it. Many of the beings swarmed around my mother and just threw her body into the cramped space. Dust was picked up by his neck, and then thrown at my mothers side in the cage. The cage was slammed shut and as soon as we heard the iron bars hit each other the vehicle began to move.

"Stay here, lay low, I will go and protect your mother and Dust-"

"But they've been captured!" Flicker cried, tears breaking away from his eyes and falling down his cheeks.

"I know and I will not stop until I've got them back... Flame protect Ember and Flicker even with your last dying breath and all of you remember, I love you."

We watched as our father, the only familiar face we knew run off into the distance after the object that had detained our other family members. He only looked back once.

The weird creatures that had captured mum and Dust was already gone but, our home, the forest was destroyed.

Trees were broken, smoke rising in the cold abandoned night, Pokemon everywhere fainted or worse, and families torn apart.

We were alone.
