Chapter Five: Follow The Feathers
The trail of torn, silvery blue fragmented, pieces of feathers seemed to go on forever. We weaved in and out of tree stumps that had randomly risen from the ground, ancient towering trees that hovered above us casting bitter shadows all around the forest floor, and the odd berry bush here and there, just to keep up with the never ending pathway.
"This doesn't seem right." Whispered Flicker, "If this trail was by chance, then how come it's so obvious? Also how can a Ducklett have so many feathers?"
Flicker had now stopped walking alongside me, frozen to the spot with what looked like an uneasy and dreaded look. His eyes had became wide with fear, the light hazel nut colour they once were was replaced by a dark raven colour. His whole body language was rigid and still. I could sense that he was feeling immense trepidation. He knew something was going to happen, and so did I.
"I'm not sure either but, just keep your guard up. If we stay together and protect each other, nothing will go wrong." I replied.
"Wait... You're 'not sure'? What does that mean? You're supposed to be the tough one!" Flicker scoffed gently, trying to catch up so he could look into my eyes and see if I was genuine or not.
"We all have our fears, it's just how we show them is different." I sighed. My eyes were firmly fixated on the feathers. I didn't care about my 'tough guy' persona anymore. I just wanted to have my family back. I wanted to tell my parents that I love them. I just wanted what I had before.
The feathers gradually began to disappear just at an opening of a old cave that had been apparently empty for years. I had heard rumours about it a long time ago but never dared to go near it.
The entrance of the cave was jagged and sharp leaving just a small space for a pokemon to squeeze it's self in. There were chucks of feathers caught on some of the pointed rocks that guarded the inside of the cave. Obviously Bubble had gone through there.
"Are we really going in there? Isn't there any other way?" Flicker whined forgetting why we were there for a moment. He was also trying to look for another entrance but, the sides of the cave were covered in thick, serrated like brambles that was a deep poison green colour. If we went near them, they would try and seize us, wrapping their razor sharp vines around our bodies, constricting our blood flow.
"Do you want to save your sister and a Eevee that you also swore to protect from everything?" I answered clearly annoyed with Flickers uncertainty.
"Let's go then." He replied after a while of deadly and time consuming seconds.
We both managed to push past the dagger like pieces of rock, just barley scraping our fur. I slowly breathed out letting a small crackling fire descend from my mouth. When Flicker had regained his composure we turned away from the entrance to look ahead.
Scattered on the floor of the cave were bones that had recently came from a Pokemon. Thankfully they looked like they had been there for more then a few minutes. There was also a foul smell that was eye watering to inhale. Ahead of us were multiple pathways to choose from, three main ones and two little ones. Flicker and I could hardly see so, we both took turns in spraying a light flamethrower everywhere.
"Where do we go?" Echoed Flicker sounding like someone was pinching his nose. The smell was getting stronger as we approached the pathways more.
"There! Look there's an exit." I muffled trying not to breath in.
I dartes my eyes to a small pathway that went to the left of us. It was hardly noticeable but there was just enough light seeping through so I could notice it. To make sure Flicker knew where I was looking at, I breathed a small amount of fire towards it, making sure I didn't use up most of the air in my lungs as the smell in the cave was beginning to be toxic. Flicker nodded to me so I started to quickly run down the path.
We both ran towards the exit with all our might, the putrid smell chasing us as we fled. As we surfaced from the cave we found ourselves on a little patch of lime green healthy grass, that was up to our ankles and tickled us as we moved. There was also a crystal, glimmering dark blue stream running right past us. Wild flowers of all different colours, shapes and sizes, waved to us in the wind. On the other side of the stream mirrored exactly what we were standing on. The sun's rays poked through the tree's leaves that were also around us creating different lighting and warmth. It looked like a dream, everything seemed so peaceful and calm but, not for long.
A darkened stiff figure stepped out from behind a Cheri tree that was to the right of us, it was slowly waddling towards Flicker and I. We both turned directly towards it, bringing our heads up high, and our bodies became very tense.
"Where is Ember and Bell?" I called to the figure that was slowly approaching us in a gruff voice.
"Stop right there Bubble, don't come any closer!" Yelled Flicker becoming edgy and unsure. With every step Bubble took, Flicker looked as if he was ready to fight or flee.
Yet, even with the warning Bubble still was coming right at us as if we didn't say anything. His pace was the same but he just carried on.
"So you're here!" Giggled Bubble in a strange way. He had been covered by various tree shadows all this time, even when he was approaching us, this meant we still couldn't see him that well. We knew it was him but we just couldn't see the extent his remaining feathers were in.
"Yes we're here, so where is Ember and Bell?" I questioned slowly. I was still really unsure about Bubble, he was like a bomb ready to explode and I didn't want to help that bomb go off.
"Heehhe they're behind that tree but, hehhe you aren't getting to them. You're weaklings just like your brother." Smiled Bubble sharply, he had raised a small wing to indicate which tree the others were behind, and that's all we needed to know.
"If you wanna battle get your bald butt over here now!" I growled deeply. This had gone on far enough! Just then Bubble came out of the shade revealing himself.
"Hahhhhahh look at him!" I laughed uncontrollably. I really tried to stifle my laugh but, the Ducklett didn't just have a bald butt he had a bald body. His whole body was bright pink from where his feathers would have been. He had been plucked everywhere.
"Stop laughing now you filthy-" warned Bubble but his insult was ceased due to my loud squeals of laughter and Flickers howls of joy.
"Ha have you been out in the sun long? That's why you're so moody... You have heat stroke!!!" I started to cry from amusement, I had never seen something this funny before. Even though Bubble was really sick and twisted in the mind, deep down I pitied him.
In the turquoise sky, speckled with pearly white fluffy clouds there was a Swanna circling us, she carried on doing that for a while then she gracefully landed right next to Bubble.
"BUBBLE HOW DARE YOU GO OFF LIKE THA- where are your feathers? " Whispered his mother. Her eyes darted all over his body with pure shock. She had started out by yelling but when she realised her baby had no feathers, her voice was lost.
Oh great I was having a good time now his mum has to come and spoil it. I was just about to battle him as well. Oh well mummy won't be able to protect him for long.
"Mummy!!!!! They did it! All of them! T-t-" cried Bubble. His whole attitude had changed now his mum had come along. He was 100% psycho back in the clearing but now, he was back to innocent little mama's boy. It was truly horrific to see the 'mighty' Bubble a quivering and crying mess. I had finally had enough of his whole facade.
"What the hell do you mean? You kidnapped my sister and Bell. You're a sick Pokemon and I want to show you what I do to sick, twisted, pathetic Pokemon!" I shouted at him. My rage had returned now, my muscles tensed fiercely and my fangs had shot out from my mouth. My upper lip jerking upwards, revealing all my other dangerous weapons.
Flicker on the other paw was ready to pounce on him, his body nearly touching to floor, but his eyes were filled with fire and anger. His claws slowly sank into the ground and a slow hiss broke out from behind his gritted teeth.
"My Bubble would never do that! Come on dear, I don't want you hanging out with Pokemon like this," She rudely pointed to Flicker and I. "Also I'd stop pulling faces Flame, and stop threatening Pokemon. Well... I'd stop living if I was you, got no family now have you? And it's not like any of you will amount to anything! Come on Bubble let's go!" The Swanna quickly began to waddle in the opposite direction from us not looking back.
She's very lucky I have a little bit of dignity left as I would have attacked her for saying that. Oh well don't worry Flame she'll get what she deserves..... Along with her snivelling little failure of a son.
"You're lucky my mum came, you are one dead Pokemon tomorrow Flame with all the rest of your family." Spat Bubble in a lethal whisper.
"I can't wait to see you as a roast Ducklett tomorrow. You won't stand a chance against me. And if you ever do this again your mummy won't be here to protect you." I hissed through gritted teeth.
The Swanna ran back for Bubble, as she noticed the three of us edging towards each other. She was probably worried that Flicker and I would eat him if she left. She pushed him in front of her, making him walk reluctantly fast. They rapidly disappeared behind a cluster of trees.
"What are you going to do tomorrow? " asked Flicker, worried about my safety and sanity.
"Let's just get Bell and Ember." I smiled to him. I didn't want him worrying about me as I wouldn't be the one who needed it. I don't need pity, that's specially for Bubble. I'm not going down without a pretty good fight. I've had enough of Bubble's reign of terror, it's going to stop.
We went over to the tree Bubble had pointed at to see that both of the kidnapped Pokemon were fast asleep. I joined them with Flicker right by my side. I checked if they were hurt, and they didn't have a scratch on them, they were just exhausted.
I'm glad that's over for now. But Flicker's right what am I going to do tomorrow? Yes, I'll fight with everything I've got but, is that a good enough plan? Let me be clear... I don't want Bubble to ever move again after I'm done with him.
