Chapter 6:
"Okay Elsa," says Miss Honey, "Now, I want you to tell me few lines on one thing that makes you very very happy."
"Acting or singing when I'm alone makes me really happy and just getting a little appreciation when I do well, makes me very very happy," I say.
"That's something I didn't know. Very interesting Elsa," says Miss Honey.
"I just sing or act when I'm alone and I'm sure no one's watching," I say.
"Since you like singing, I want you to sing your favorite song, right now," Miss Honey says.
Great.....Just great. Now, I know why she asked me. Till today I have never sang in front of anybody and now I have to do it. Trying to my best to calm down, I take a deep breadth, close my eyes and start singing. But Miss Honey stops me halfway.
"Elsa, I can't hear what your singing," she says going and standing at the end of the class, "I want to be able to hear you from here."
Elsa, it can't be that tough, can it. I can sing this song even when I'm asleep. I can do it, I HAVE to do it.
Trying my best to make eye contact with Miss Honey, I start singing. I don't know what just happened. But while singing it was like I was transported to a different world altogether. I didn't know where I was nor did I care. When I finished singing and opened my eyes, Miss Honey jaw had dropped.
"Elsa, that was beautiful," she says coming towards me.
"Thank you," I say turning pink.
"Oh today we took more time then yesterday, off you go," she says.
I'm about to leave the classroom when Miss Honey suddenly says, "I want to hear you sing tomorrow as well," she says giving me a wide, warm smile, "That song you sang today, I'll never be able to forget it."
As I walk out of the classroom I can't help but feel a happy cloud around me. What Miss Honey said keeps on replaying in my mind. Suddenly, I feel someone tap my shoulder.
"Where have you been I've been searching for you everywhere," says Nancy.
"Miss Honey had called me," I say.
"Let's go to the cafeteria, I'm starving," says Nancy dragging me along.
The cafeteria is completely filled and if by chance any seat is empty has been saved for someone else.
"This reminds of the bus," says Nancy angrily.
I look around desperately searching for a place to sit and finally I spot one. At the far corner of the cafeteria there is a tiny table just enough for two people to sit.
"Nancy, let's go there, quick!" I say.
We both run towards the cafeteria , holding our trays tightly.
We are about to reach when my leg hits something and off goes my tray. Now the ENTIRE cafeteria is staring at us. Why am I always so UNLUCKY? The happy cloud that was surrounding me some time has disappeared. The more I try not to make people notice me, the more they end up noticing me. I get up rubbing my knee, when I realize that my juice has not fallen on the floor. I feel a shiver down my spine. If it didn't fall on the floor, it fell on SOMEBODY. I look up and my heart stops.
There's a boy who's tall and has the sea- blue eyes. He has one of those appealing faces and I bet when he smiles it will be the most charming one I've ever seen.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to spill the juice on you!" I say after regaining my voice(with great difficulty).
"Its alright, I have a spare shirt in my bag," he says giving me a smile, "I hope you are not hurt."
"Not really," I say.
His friend sitting at one of the near tables calls him.
"I've got to go," he says, "I'm Luke by the way."
