***************
Last night, Siya had won the bet as the teddy bear turned out to be Brown. 'What the EF!!!' Kaira had yelled. Spending the last weekend of her holiday in Siya's way was not a good idea for Kaira. She knew Siya would either find the lamest place to go or she would just stay at home watching movies. Kaira wasn't really wrong as Siya had decided to use that opportunity to drag her to this very issolated pond with 7 ducks residing in it in the middle of nowhere.
Siya remembered coming here with her family and her cousin Anjali, who usually tagged along everywhere Siya's family went. Anjali was everyone's favorite, especially Mr Raichand's, that's why she was invited for all the family outings and occasions. She was funny, outspoken, brave and a great performer and Thats what really inspired Siya once.
The last time Siya came here, Anjali had gone missing. Mr and Mrs Raichand had spent an hour looking for her but when Mr Raichand also disappeared, Mrs Raichand had to call the cops. Though Anjali and Mr Raichand were found shortly after, no one ever visited this place again. Now that Siya has her own car and she doesn't need a lift to go somewhere, she decided to sneak out to this beautiful place again.
'Pass me a piece of bread,' Siya extended her hand towards Kaira who was carrying the whole loaf.
Rhidhima also decided to mock Kaira, 'yes Kaira baby! Pass that piece of bread! Let's just get these ducks drunk on bread!' Siya and Rhidhima giggled as they sat down on a rock, next to the pond.
'Yeah whatever, bitches,' Kaira groaned and chucked the whole loaf of bread at Siya who catched it in time.
Realizing that these girls were not going to listen, Kaira gave up on her plans. She then went up to the car to get two bottles of bear and a Pepsi can. 'Here,' she passed the girls their drinks and sat down next to them. Though she wasn't mumbling or groaning anymore, she still wasn't in love with this idea so as a distraction she started chatting with Armaan who was stuck with his two elder aunts.
Kaira had asked him to come along but he excused himself by saying that it would be awkward and that he did not want to be stuck between three girls.
Right now Armaan was sitting in the lounge of Sharma family's house with Kaira's mother and his other elder aunt on either side of him. It wasn't a great decision refusing Kaira's offer, he kept on thinking. Atleast sitting with three girls was a much better thing to do than sitting between two older ladies who kept on telling him how much weight he had lost in the past few years. Though it was their way of telling Armaan that they were sorry about what happened and they genuinely cared for him and were concerned about him, it really annoyed Armaan as the only thing he wished for right now was a normal behavior.
He had left Christchurch and came all the way to Auckland only so that his harsh reality would stop pinching him everyday. He knew it was really selfish of him but he was just done with all the sympathy people had to offer him there. He did not want anyone to point out to him that his parents were no more as he was already very well aware of it. Everytime anyone started a conversation about his loss, Armaan managed to escape the scene in time but whenever he was not able to do so, he usually lost his temper.
He could already sense that the ladies were about to bring up 'that' topic so he excused himself and went outside by saying that it was 5:30pm and he could really use this opportunity to go for a walk as it wasn't too sunny or dark. The cold breeze brushed past his face as he started walking in a random direction.
He could see a little boy learning to ride a bike while his father held him from behind and his mother recorded that moment in the camera. Seeing this, Armaan regretted all those moments he had avoided taking pictures with his parents. He wished he could go back in time and take a few snaps with them to keep forever or even better, just reverse all that happened in the past year and ask his parents to also join him on that road trip.
It was not even half an hour later when Armaan was brought back to the reality with the noise if a few chirpy kids on the swings in the park nearby. He found himself stuck in the middle of nowhere as for a while he had forgotten that he was not in Christchurch anymore and that he knew nothing about this place unless he carried a GPS with him. He was looking around for any signs that would lead him back to where he had started from when a car stopped next to him.
'Lost you way, eh?' The guy in the black BMW stuck his head out of the window, 'your house is exactly 2 blocks away. Want a lift?'
Armaan stared at that guy with a confused expression. He sure had seen this guy somewhere but he couldn't recall where at that very moment.
Guessing by Armaan's expression, the guy in the BMW stepped out and introduced himself, 'Hi,' he said, 'I am Sameer? Your neighbor? You came to my sister's birthday party, remember?'
Something clicked inside Armaan clueless mind. No, he did not know Sameer's name or who he was until now but he did remember Siya's birthday party and he was relieved to know that the young guy Siya had hugged in the party was just her brother and not something else.
A slight smile took over Armaan's face when offered a handshake to Sameer, 'yeah Mate! Of course I remember you!' He lied.
Without any delay Armaan jumped into the passenger seat and thanked Sameer for the lift.
During this short journey the boys talked about all sorts of things such as the kind of music they liked, their love for cars, where their families come from in India, their uni courses and future plans.
When Sameer parked his car in his driveway, he noticed that Siya was not at home as her car was missing. Later when he asked Seerat about it, he did not really receive a useful answer so he decided to call Siya but her phone was out of reach. Siya never went to such places where there were network issues so it really surprised Sameer. Although he was worried, he decided to give Siya her space as she was a responsible adult after all. Trying to not look like a possessive brother, he waited for another fifteen minutes before he called her back. Yet no reply....
