Nobody expects someone to come into your life and change it. But when they do, you somehow know they were meant to be in your life. It's as if there was a rainbow, but it never touched the ground. It hangs above the earth, suspended by something, and the end of the rainbow becomes a mystery. I was living like the rainbow for 15 years.
I assumed that there was something wrong with me, and that no one would find every layer of me and every color that is hidden attractive. I didn't expect anyone to say that I'm perfect, and that they wouldn't change anything about me, despite all the issues I see within myself.
My ex boyfriend would tell me that we would work through my issue together, and that he was there for me. But he never said that there wasn't an issue.
My dad tells me that I'm a good person and that he loves me. But he never says that there isn't an issue.
My best friend, however, tells me that I don't need to change anything. He tells me that I'm perfect the way I am. He tells me he doesn't see a single damn flaw, even when I have scars on my arms and legs and my hair is a mess from my shower. Even at my worst, with tears on my pillow, my face red, and my hair in curlers, he still says there's nothing wrong with me.
I am a rainbow. I can't see the end of it, and usually no one else ever does. But I found that one person to complete the puzzle, and found the end of the rainbow. That one person is all I need.
Other people would love me in spite of all of my flaws and insecurities. But my best friend loves me because he sees all of those "flaws" as beautiful. He's the only one who has ever been able to make me forget about my worries and troubles.
Everyone deserves that one person to complete their rainbow. It may take a while, and sometimes blending two colors is all it takes to complete it. Other times, a whole section of the rainbow is missing. And they're both okay, because someone will come along and complete your rainbow. It could be a family member, a friend, or a mentor. But there's one person who can complete your rainbow who is more important than any others:

YOU.

You are special. Your rainbow is special. And it takes a very special person to complete it. The relationship between me and my best friend is so incredibly special, and I wouldn't change it for the world. Life surprised me by sending him my way, and I've never been happier. No matter who you are, where you live, or what you've been through, someone will love you because of your flaws and insecurities.
But the relationship that is the most special is the one you have with yourself. A thousand people can tell you you're perfect, but it won't matter if you don't believe it yourself.
