Back to School Rant
So today I returned to school after my Term 1 two week break. Monday was a Professional Development day for the teachers and Tuesday was ANZAC day so we got two public holiday-like days in a row.
But two weeks can fly by fast when you are procrastinating over an essay, looking after your younger cousins and reading 3 novels in a week and a half. So here I am, with a fresh new haircut, drowsy attitude and a determined spark about me, because it was my first full day back at school after my spine operation!
That was pretty exciting and a huge improvement for me, even though I am only going to do two full days a week.
There are a few things that really annoyed me today, and I realised how much I hate the school environment, and a few of the people. Hate is a strong word... so maybe I will settle for heavily detest.
1. Bags
Everybody needs a bag to carry books, laptops and lunch in. What I find extremely intolerable is when students (mainly girls) saunter around with their bags on only one shoulder, the opening halfway down their back, and walking lopsided from unbalance.
The bags have TWO STRAPS. How many shoulders do humans have? TWO. TWO SHOULDERS FOR THE TWO STRAPS. NOT TWO STRAPS FOR ONE SHOULDER (Good luck passing your maths exam). If bags were intended to only be worn with one strap over one shoulder, THEY WOULD HAVE ONE STRAP FOR GOODNESS SAKE!
Those people think they look so cool like that, not being botered to use to two straps they have been provided for by the manufacturer! Look, if you're not going to use that second strap, THEN YOU ARE WASTING YOUR MONEY. Imagine how hard the company worked to design that strap which you are not using? It was probably computerised, but how do think they would feel when you are cutting corners? Golly gosh my unicorn genitals!
Secondly, are you planning to have back problems in the future? Trust me, I know what it is like to have severe back pain, a curved spine, slunched shoulders and a massive lump on one side. I can tell those students that they DO NOT WANT THAT! You will not look so cool.
Backpacks are specifically designed for ultimate comfort, convenience and purpose. I know I sound like some advertising expert, but seriously, it only takes 1-3 seconds to put a strap on depending on the mass of your bag and what is in it. You don't want to hurt your back. You don't wanna walk all lopsided, because I don't think it's attractive.
Each element of a bag is there for a purpose. Whether it is aesthetic, convenient, to put stuff in or for comfort. Those two straps are there for you to use!
Unless you have health problems and can't wear two straps, then can you please give me a legitimate reason why you think you should swagger around the school and unbalanced like that? Aren't your bags heavy filled with your school supplies?
Oh yeah, I forgot.
2. I don't understand why people have small bags and essentially nothing in them
I hate those tiny Nike or Adidas bags which are black and just... ughdgliewusdgieakfb
How do people fit everything in that they need for their school day?
In my bag I have:
-My 14" laptop
-A 96/128 page notebook for each core subject that I have that day (Maths, English, Science, HASS- I have three per day- four on Wednesdays- and two electives)
-Pencil Case
-File for sheets of paper (pretty thin)
-Recess and Lunch
-Water bottle
-Planner Diary Thingy
My bag is so dang heavy! I have to put heaps in my locker so nobody dies when they carry it (because at the moment I can't carry my own bag because my back is not strong enough to do that after me op.)
Do people just have like one notebook for all subjects and a laptop?
Or is their bag a Marry Poppins replica or Hermione's purse?
I want one of those, sign me up for that.
Somebody explain to me how those people manage to have such small bags and survive the school day with enough stationery?!!!
3. People in general
Saw girl in my grade with thick make up and a seriously high and tight bun that looks like she had botox or that plastic surgery that make syour skin all tight. I was annoyed, I don't know why, it just looked weird. (Hormones probs).
Had maths lesson in which the teacher with European accent cannot say her 'th' and says' 't' instead. Felt like I was racist for being annoyed at that.
Maths teacher told us we were starting geometry unit and I had no protactor in my pencil case, so I had to borrow hers and felt unorganised because she gave us no warning.
Boy in my class didn't have a hair cut when he really needed one in my opinion because he is looking a bit scruffy, but he looks cute like that (It was James). I felt like hormones were taking over. Irritating.
People who barely ever talk to me complimented my hair. Thank you very much, that makes me feel a bit more confident, but is life all about looks? Nice but a tweeny but shallow.
My english teacher keeps insisting I leave class five minutes early to get to other classes and break times so I don't get bumped into people. I am constantly reminding her that I am less vulnerable now that I once was. Am feeling like people aren't accepting what I say.
One boy in my music class was being really disruptive and made silly little comments everywhere and WOULDN'T SHUT UP! I felt really sorry for my teacher because he is actually a little di--- whoopppssssieee. I think we lost half the lesson because my poor teacher was constantly telling him ti be quiet (and this guy asked me to date him last year- HA! NO WAY! Not if you are going to disrupt my time for education).
I dropped my ANZAC biscuit on the ground at school. I bumped into my wardrobe door this morning. I tripped up a stair at school. Last night I cut myself on the back of my leg when shaving my legs. This is not going to be a good week. I am so clumsy.
Jack was peering over my marking sheet in English to look at the mark I got for my Narrative which is in a chapter prior to this. He saw my mark even though I tried to hide it and then announced it to his table. I got 24.5/15 (lost 1/2 mark for overuse of commas- but commas are my best friend! Really happy with the mark though) and Remus said, "What and she failed to get that half mark?" *Proceeds to give him the dirtiest look I can muster*.
Had the geography competition last period today. On Wednesdays we have one extra period, and all lessons are 10 mins shorter. I was super peeved when I realised after maths we still have to endure 50 mins of the already weird school day, doing a national test that was pretty tricky (some questions were doozies!) but I think I did alright. Was annoyed at HASS teacher for no reason. I don't even know why, I think it was because I want to get the mark for my Urbanisation Report back, but we probably won't get it back until Monday Next Week. Poo.
Had the Miraculous Ladybug and Cat Noir theme song stuck in my head all day and sung it in pretty much every lesson. Still one of my favourite shows in the world, along with Selling Houses Australia, Say Yes to the Dress Atlanta, The Great Pottery Throw Down and Gogglebox. It was annoying because... well songs stuck in your head is just generally annoying.
Handed in my essay for English, which I triumphantly printed out last night (or at least tried to, before the printed startedd beeping at me 'NO PAPER NO PAPER NO PAPER' *pulls out tray to put more in* 'NO TRAY NO TRAY NO TRAY' *puts paper in* *printer shuts up*. Thank you very much ya piece of plastic and metal. *Printer prints out two copies of essay all our of order*.
Thank you for nothing. Stole stapler from teachers desk to staple up this morning.
"You have to ask Gabbi."
"Can I borrow-"
*friend pushes back in chair to stand up and hits into me*
"SORRY!"
"You nearly impaled me!"
*forgets about asking for stapler*
In study period (because I can't do sport with my back), I wanted to do some practise questions to prepare for the geography comp but the server went down. Some other guy who was in Room 6 with the supervisor wouldn't stop talking about random things, and I was trying to fix my laptop and do my science revision sheet on cell organelles once I had given up on the stupid school internet. Some PEACE AND QUIET would've been nice.
*Smiles sweetly*
o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o
That was really long but I literally needed to get all this stuff off my chest because... well today was... crap? Nah it was alright. but this was fun. I wish I could do more of this stuff... was it interesting?
Did something happen today that really annoyed you?
-Gabs xx
