Part 3

The market place was always a crowded.

But today was different. It was a enforced holiday created by the new king. It was the prince's birthday. Everyone was either at the arena or stayed home. Or else be brutally attacked by the king's guards. Elves usually don't like  violence so they usually stayed home. Not Eeon. No she was on her way to her friend's home to get gear before she headed to the arena herself.

"Sindri Alfgaster!" Eeon said from her stallion. Sindri was the blacksmith's son and Eeon's friend from childhood. He was also her sparring partner. They lived in an old cottage near the square. The king payed them heavily to supply his knights and guards with weapons. Sindri popped his head out a window on the second floor, his pumpkin colored haired covering his left eye. The eye that had been taken by the king as punishment for his father.

"Aye, Eeon! What are ye doin? If the gaurds catch ya, yer as good as dead lass!" Eeon hopped of her stallion with a hand on her hip, smirking. "I need my rapier. And my armor." Fear widened the young boy's only eye. "Oh no! Don't tell me yer going today! It'll be like the seven depths of hell!"

"I know perfectly well what it'll be like. With Mother nature and some luck on my side, I'll get some type of fortune!" Sindri smacked the palm of his hand on his forehead. "Yer an idiot, lass, but I'll go get them." With that, he disappeared.

While waiting, Eeon heard some guards behind her. They were drunk off the arses with wine after exiting a tavern. They all hooted with laughter when someone made a drunken joke and fell over.

"Aye look boys! Its maiden Caer!" a rustic one said leaning on a distraught page. "On your way to the arena again?" Eeon held her head high and didn't answer him. That didn't please him. "Oi! When I'm talkin' to ya, you better answer me!" He tried to charge at her but failed and fell on his face. It took all of her control  not to burst into laughter. The other men started bellowing with laughter.

Just then, Sindri came out with Eeon's armor and sword. "Come home safe, Eeon. Yer mother won't be pleased if she has to heal ye again like a couple of moons ago." Eeon laughed as she put her armor on. "Oh please! We had a tussle earlier about marriage yet again. And if she didn't want me bringing home money, then she wouldn't let me doing this! The only reason my brother was allowed to become a soldier was the fact she thought he was going to send coin to us." Eeon said. Her tone had gone sour with the mentioning of her brother.

"He'll come home, Eeon." "I doubt it. Thats all we ever talked about; getting out of here. Then luckily for him, the chance arose. He wont be coming back. He hasn't even written." She put on her helmet after putting her hair into a messy bun. "I'll be back before the moon is fully in the sky," she told Sindri, getting upon her steed, the helmet darkening her voice.

"Be safe," Sindri said as Eeon rode off to the dirt path that led the village to the human towns.
