"Jayne wake up! It's dinner time." I hear someone yell at me.
"Just let me sleep." I mumble sleepily.
" No you need to get up and eat." the voice tells me. "Oh and who is Vincent?"
Just as if someone splashed ice cold water on me, I sprung up. "Why?"
"Well your mom told me to go to Vincent's room and wake you up." the voice, realizing it's Anne, said.
" Vincent is my brother who passed away." I tell her coldly hoping she gets the hint that I don't want to talk about it anymore.
" Oh I'm sorry." She said. We then settled into a silence. " So lets go up for dinner."
We get up there and the table is already set, dinner is in the center of the table, and everyone is sitting down waiting to eat. For dinner it looks like we are having chicken breasts with potatoes and corn. I sit down next to mom and Anne sits across from me next to Charles while Jo sits on the other side of me across from Charles. All of the plates already have food on them so there is no hands reaching for food. " Okay now let's eat now that everyone is here."
We have never waited for someone to eat any other time. " Charles decided it was a good idea to wait for you and Anne to get back."

Oh that explains it.
While we were eating there was barely any small talk until my mom decides to say "Anne would you like to stay in Vincent's old room?"
Anne looks at me then looks at my mom and says " I wouldn't mind having my own room. But only if it's okay with you guys."
"It's fine with us. You can move all your things in hi.. I mean your new room after supper." My mom says.
" Okay awesome. I"ll get started right away." she says and then leaves the table.
After she left, all of us finished eating so my mom starts to collect the dishes, when she gets to Anne's mostly full plate she says " I guess Anne wasn't really hungry." "Hmm.. I guess not mom. I'm going to go check on Anne to make sure she is alright. Night." I tell her before I leave to go downstairs into the basement.

I get to Vincent's room and I notice that the door is closed. I knock and there is no response. I knock once more. "Anne I know your in there let me in before I let myself in." I say. I wait a few seconds and there is no response so I open the door to a scene I'll never forget. Anne is laying at the foot of the bed clearly unconscious. I run to her side. "Anne wake up come on." I remember what they taught us in CPR training. I check for a pulse and I have found a faint one. I pulling my phone out of my back pocket and dial 911.

"911 what's your emergency?"

"My friend is unconscious but I feel a faint pulse. I need an ambulance here now."

"What is you address?"

I give the address and she assures me that an ambulance will be at my house soon. Soon enough paramedics are rushing the room and my confused mom is running behind them. The paramedics strap Anne onto a gurney and rush her to the hospital. Mom, the boys, and I pile into the van to get to the hospital.

Once we get there we talk with the front desk lady and she tells me that Anne is stable but only family members are able to see her so I lie and say I'm her sister. I walk into her room and I see her hooked up to all of these wires and tubes. I sit down in the seat next to her bed. That is when the doctor decides to show up.

"Hello I'm Doctor Thorten. Your friend here passed out from malnutrition. She should be awake in about an hour. When she is you should press this button right here." he says as he points to the call button. I nod to show that I understand and he walks out. Malnutrition. She can't be what I think she is. But the signs were all there. Her barely eating. She just can't be anorexic.

I guess I spaced out a little because next thing I know someone is waving their hand in front of my face. I look to where the hand belongs to and I see Anne sitting up in her hospital bed. I press the call button to get the doctor. He walks in and says "Well nice to see you are wake Anne. You had us all worried. Now we have to talk about some serious things. The reason you passed out is because the potassium in your blood was way too low. That could mean a certain type of disease or malnutrition due to anorexia. To rule out disease we looked at your medical history. Now you have to tell me what happened."

"Well umm.. I'm going to be honest with you doc. I do have an eating disorder. I just would eat less and less and less until I just stopped eating. I never thought this would happen." Anne confesses.

" Well I am recommending you see a therapist. It can help you if you allow it to. We are going to keep you here until your potassium levels get to where I would like for them to be. I will see you in about an hour. "

"Anne why didn't you tell me this? I could have helped you." I say.

"I was too scared." she replies. "It's okay. I'm going to tell my mom what happened."

She nods her head as I walk out and head to the lobby.

I see my mom and the boys sleeping on the chairs. I wake up my mom and tell her what happened. "Oh my. Well I don't know what to say. I guess I blame myself. I should have seen the signs I can't help but feel like it's my fault." My mom says defeated. "It's not your fault mom, not at all. It's no ones fault. I'm going to go back into her hospital room to keep her company." I tell her. She nods her head okay. I pat her shoulder as I pass her to go into Anne's room.

I sit down in the chair right next to Anne's bed and grab her hand. "You're okay. We'll get through this together, as a family." I tell her. She nods her head in response to me. We sit in silence for about ten minutes then Doctor Thorten comes to the doors. "Alright Anne your potassium levels are high enough for you to leave. Now I want you to take care of yourself and listen to your therapist. I'm going to go get your release and give them to your mom. A nurse will be in to take care of you." He says then walks out. And a nurse walks in to bring Anne her clothes and remove the IV from her wrist.

"Well now that your mom signed the release forms once you get dressed you can leave." the nurse says before she leaves. I step out so Anne can get dressed. Once she is, she walks out of her room towards mom. "Lets go home mom." I say as we walk to the front of the hospital to go home.
