Life and Struggles

ADDI is apart of a group of friends that want to do everything together. When it comes time to decide what you want to do after high school, things start to get complicated. ADDI has been accepted to an Ivy League School and wants to attend. Her friends want her to go to the same college as them, but ADDI wants to get what she earned. A good education. This is based in a suburb just outside of Boston, Massachusetts.

ACT 1

SCENE 1

NARRATOR: ADDI and her friends are Seniors and after high school comes college. Her and her friends want to all want to be together after school. ADDI got into many good schools, but her friends aren't the brightest. They barely passed their SATs. ADDI passed with flying colors and wants to go to a prestigious school, but her friends most likely get into one.She has started opening some of the letters, but is only worried about one letter.

(ADDI looks around at all of her acceptance letters to college on her bed, but stares at one letter and picks it up)

ADDI: (whispering with excitement ) I got in. I got into Brown!

(her phones rings)

ADDI: (gets of her bed and walks over to get her phone off of her dresser) Hello?

ALICE: Hey, did you get any letters today

ADDI: Yeah did you get any

ALICE: Yeah, I got one from from Brown and Boston University

ADDI: (fake excitement) You applied for Brown?

ALICE: (talking fast and has excitement) Yeah, I applied when I heard you were trying to get in. Since Molly, Rose, you, and I want to go to the same school we all applied.

ADDI: (disappointment in her voice) Oh. (fake excitement) Well did you get in.

ALICE: (talking fast) I haven't checked yet I wanted to open the letters with you and the girls.Maybe we could meet for lunch?

ADDI: That's fine with me. Do you want me to bring some of my letters?

ALICE: (confused) some? You have more than 2 letters?

ADDI: (confused)(exaggerate 2) You only applied for TWO colleges

ALICE: Yes, I applied for the two that I know I will get into

ADDI: (confused)Okay, I'll see you in a little bit.

ALICE: Yeah, I will call Rose and Molly to join us

ADDI: Okay, bye

ALICE:Bye (hangs up phone)

                                                          SCENE 2

NARRATOR: ADDI doesn't know what to do. She wants to be with her friends, but she also wants to go to a good college. She decides to think about what she wants to do after college.

ADDI: (talking to herself) I know I want to get my Masters, so I would like to go to go to a college that I would actually enjoy enough to spend 4 extra years at.

ADDI: (still talking to herself) But if I go to school with my friends I don't have to worry about liking the-

TEDDY: Who are you talking to?

ADDI:(startled) Oh, hi Ted.

TEDDY: I ask again. Who are talking too?

ADDI: Myself

TEDDY: Weirdo

ADDI: Hey, if you were in my shoes you would do the same.

TEDDY: (with a smug look on his face) and what exactly would I be worried about?

ADDI: Sometimes I wonder how I am older than you. (TEDDY smirks and shrugs at ADDI) But, if you must know I have been accepted to Brown.

TEDDY: Congratulations and what's wrong, you wanted to go to Brown?

ADDI: Yes, but Alice, Molly, Rose, and I all wanted to go to the same school and we all know that they aren't going to get into Brown.

TEDDY:(slowly clapping and using sarcasm) Wow, you should get an award for being a great friend .

ADDI: Shut up, But don't you agree with me they won't even get through registration at Brown.

TEDDY:(sarcastic) Number one friend over here, give her a round of applause everybody.

ADDI:(frustrated) Shut up and help me.

TEDDY: (holding up hands in defeat) Okay, okay, what do you need?

ADDI: (almost yelling) Have you not been listening to anything.

TEDDY: Okay, sorry (walking over to sit next to her on her bed) maybe you should just wait until they open the letters and tell them that you want to go to a different college.

ADDI: Are you stupid or something.

TEDDY:(sarcastic) Yes, yes I am.

ADDI: I can't tell them that I am ditching them, they'll be so mad at me.

TEDDY: (confused) So, what's wrong with that?

ADDI: You are stupid.

TEDDY: What did I do now?

ADDI: (falls on her back)If they get mad at me I will end my high school career a flop

TEDDY: Why don't you just hang out with your book club friends.

ADDI: Nobody knows that I have other friends besides them.

TEDDY: Now look who's stupid.

TEDDY: Just talk to them and tell them all the work you did to get into Brown.

ADDI: (shocked) Did you just say something not idiotic?

TEDDY: (smirking) Maybe.

ADDI: Well then, congrats.

ADDI: (looks at her phone) Crap, I have to go (looks at TEDDY) thanks Teddy.

TEDDY: (yells while ADDI runs out of her room) Your Welcome. (falls on his back on her bed)

                                                                             SCENE 3

NARRATOR: ADDI runs to meet her friends on time at the cafe. As she is driving she starts to think about what TEDDY said. She decides that she will actually do what her younger brother advised her to do.She gets to the cafe and hears a little bit of her friends conversation while running from her parking spot on the other side of the parking lot.

ALICE: (annoyed) Where is she?

MOLLY: what time did you tell her?

ALICE: I texted her noon.

ROSE: (looks at phone) She should be her-

ADDI: (runs in and sits down next to ROSE) Sorry I am late I lost track of time.

MOLLY: It's ok.

ROSE:(intrigued) What made you late?

ALICE:(intrigued)Did you get a new boyfriend that you never told us about?

ADDI:(irritated) I was with my brother, and i don't think he counts as a boyfriend?

ROSE:(disgusted) Okay, sorry that would be really weird though.

MOLLY: (smirking) How do we know that she is telling the truth?

ADDI:(irritated) I am not dating my brother.End of story.

ALICE: Okay, now that that's over, why don't we order.

ALICE, ROSE, ADDI, and MOLLY pick up their menus and scan through them.

SCENE 4

NARRATOR: The girls are done eating and ADDI knows that they are going to want to open up their letters before they leave.

MOLLY:(excited) So, should we open our letters now or after dessert?

ADDI: (takes a drink of water)

ALICE and ROSE: Now!

NARRATOR: ADDI is still wondering how she is going to tell the others that she wants to go to a different college than them. She takes a drink of water right after MOLLY asks that so she has an excuse for not answering.

ADDI:(putting down her drink) Sure.

ADDI, MOLLY, ALICE, and ROSE go their bags and pull out letters

MOLLY: okay, i have letters from Brown, Providence School, and The University of Boston.

ROSE: I have Brown, University of Boston, and The University of Rhode Island

ALICE: I have University of Boston and Brown

ADDI:(nervous) I have Brown, University of Boston, The University of Rhode Island, Yale, NYU, and Princeton

MOLLY: Okay let's start with the ones we all applied for.

ROSE: Let's open Boston first

ALICE, ROSE, ADDI, and MOLLY pick up their letters and continue to open them.

NARRATOR: ADDI knows that she already got into all of the colleges because she already opened all of them, but plays along for her friends sake.

ALICE, ROSE, and MOLLY: I got in!

NARRATOR: They all look over at ADDI surprised that she didn't say anything

ADDI: (looking up from her letter and says with a bored tone) Oh, I got in too

MOLLY:(excited and smiling) Okay, so if we all get into Brown then we have two colleges to pick from!

ALICE: (smiling) True that, now we should open Brown

ALICE, ROSE, ADDI, and MOLLY pick up their letters from Brown and continue to open them.

NARRATOR: ALICE, ROSE, ADDI, and MOLLY quickly read through their letters and you can see ROSE, ALICE, and MOLLY's faces' go from overjoyed to disappointment

ALICE: (disappointment in her voice) I didn't get in.

ROSE:(disappointment in her voice) I didn't get in either.

MOLLY:(disappointment in her voice) me either .

MOLLY, ROSE, and MOLLY look over at ADDI

ADDI: (nervous and embarrassed) I got in.

MOLLY, ALICE, and ROSE look at her in disbelief.

ALICE: Your not going to accept it are you?

ADDI: Actually, i was going to accept it, I worked really hard to get this.

ROSE: (Frustrated) How did you work hard? You did just as much work as us.

MOLLY:(confused) and, you got in?

ADDI: actually I think I worked a little harder than you.

ALICE: (mad) and how so? We all said that for senior year we will all be studying together so we can help each other get into the same school.

ADDI: (irritated) We did all study together and we all know around the same amount of academics, but did you do anything outside of school? Any extracurriculars?

MOLLY:(confused) Anything outside school? Didn't we just need to get good grades to get into a good school?

ADDI:(irritated) You needed to do a club or a sport to show that you can work well with others

ROSE:(mad) And how are we supposed to know that?

ADDI:(mad) You should have listened to all of the assemblies that we had or did you just gossip with each other

ALICE:(mad and yelling) Can we all just calm down.

ALICE: (trying to be calm) ADDI can you please not go to Brown. We all said that would go to the same school

ADDI:(trying to be calm) I'm sorry ALICE, but i have worked too hard to pass this opportunity

NARRATOR: ALICE nods saying that she understands what ADDI is saying and leaves the cafe dragging her to best friends along with her.

                                                                            SCENE 5

NARRATOR: After the incident in the cafe the trio hasn't even looked at ADDI. They go on to finish their last year of high school and if you saw them during that time you wouldn't even think they even knew each other.

NARRATOR: When graduation rolled around ADDI graduated valedictorian and the only one her grade to move on to an Ivy League School.

NARRATOR: ADDI completed college with honors and ended being pre-med, but did not continue to work in the medical field. She completed her masters 4 years later. After she was done with her studies she got a well paying job and got married 2 years later. She now lives in Boston with her husband and 2 kids.

NARRATOR: She remembers every day of her life on how she made her own decision that day in the cafe. She remembers her friends and how they ignored her for the last semester, but being who she was and accepting the future that was built for her ended out well. But, she wonders what would have happened if she stayed with her friends, changed her plans. She is about to find out because in less than a week is her high school reunion. She will see what her old friends' lives would be like. She would realize how one decision could change her whole life.

This is so bad and cheesy I am sorry. I just wanted to share it so tell me what grade you think I should get. My teacher wont give us our grades soooo, yeah.
