Chapter 24
Godt's POV
By the time Bas and I reached the cottage it had grown completely dark and P'Tae had finished cooking dinner for all of us.
Copter, I found out, had some culinary skills as well and had cooked one of the two dishes that we were having for dinner. I found him working side by side with P'Tae in the kitchen.
Tee and P'Kim were in the porch watching out for Bas and me and when they saw us from afar, they came running to meet us. Well, P'Kim had to hop down the three steps down from the porch while Tee easily reached Bas and me.
"Where did you find Bas?" they asked at the same time.
"I found him having a lovers' tryst with his boyfriend Kong," I said, unable to conceal the bitterness in my voice.
"P'Godt!" Bas protested, "stop spreading false rumors about me!"
"Well, can you look at Tee and P'Kim in the eye and tell them that I did not find you and Kong in a compromising embrace when I reached his father's cottage?" I asked, still feeling upset at the memory.
"Watch your choice of words, P'Godt," he said, "you did not find Kong and me in a compromising embrace. It was just a buddy hug because I was leaving."
"Buddy hug my ass!" I said, "tell that to your grandma! If I had not come to interrupt both of you, your passionate embrace could have gone on and on all night, and who knows what it would have led into."
Now I knew that I was exaggerating things but I was too hurt and angry to care by this time.
Tee and P'Kim looked at each other thoughtfully and then P'Kim said, "Let's all go inside and have dinner. I believe that dinner is ready."
Dinner became a silent affair. For some reason Tee was ignoring P'Tae and Bas was not talking to me. Only P'Kim and Copter would say something from time to time.
The food tasted good.
"Who cooked this stuff?" I had to ask.
"I did," said Copter.
I noticed P'Kim looking admiringly at him. When Copter noticed it, he blushed. I swear there's something going on between this two. I'm willing to fight anyone who would dare to contradict me.
After dinner, Tee and I offered to wash the dishes.
"No, Godt, I'll do everything myself. I know you're tired from the long walk to Kong's house and back," said Tee.
The mention of Kong's name sent a spasm through my chest again. I stole a glance at Bas. He was blushing, which meant he had some kind of feelings for Kong.
"No, Tee," I insisted. "I'm okay. I really would like to keep myself busy."
All of a sudden, Bas spoke up.
"Tomorrow I'm cooking the rice for everyone," he said.
"I thought you did not know how to cook rice," said Copter.
"I know now," said Bas.
Everyone including myself looked at him in surprise. He started to blush again.
"Was it Kong who taught you?" I had to ask, feeling so much pain in my chest.
He refused to answer but blushed even redder. So that was why he had gone off to Kong's house. Now my plan to teach him how to cook rice had just gone down the drain.
