3. Rebuilding Hogwarts
Lilly's POV
I went home at a good time. I was yawning a lot on the second to last trial and Kingsley called it a day. He would handle the proceedings for the next two days. I had the weekend off at his orders. He wanted me to relax, but I was going to go help rebuild Hogwarts, fix random things, I was also going to recall many people back to their portraits. I was also going to reinstate the houses and their guardians.
But for now, Neville deserved my attention.
The next morning, I woke up a bit late because Neville was apparently really jealous yesterday, not to say we had a bad night, it was amazing.
I shook Neville quickly and we sprinted to get dressed to go help fix the castle. Breakfast was going to be prepared anyway in the Great Hall, but we needed to hurry.
We used the flo network to get there and ran to the Great Hall.
Many of the students who fought in the Battle of Hogwarts left to be with their families and won't return until the next school year, or won't return at all.
Professor McGonagall asked if anyone could, come back and repair the castle.
Professor McGonagall called attention and she said, "Today we will focus on the bridges and entrances. If any of you have brooms or are willing to fly to the Quidditch Pitch to fix that as well, that is much appreciated. If any of you need help, Professor Flitwick will gladly assist you."
I asked, "Quidditch Pitch?"
He nodded and I took my broom out of my purse with the undetectable extension charm.
A few other flew with us, Terry Boot, Rodger Davies, Cedric Diggory, Oliver Wood, Angelina Johnson.
We landed by one of the broken goal posts and I said, "I'll start with the goal posts, did you guys want to start the stands?"
They agreed and flew around mending the stands. Slowly the stadium returned to its former glory, everything was so burnt. We were all up in the air and I smiled looking around. We looked at each other and Oliver said, "I'm glad this is fixed, now other students can find their passion."
We all agreed being Quidditch players ourselves, other than Neville.
We flew back helping others soon we took a break at lunch and then spent until dinner fixing the castle.
We stayed in the castle that night and continued to fix the castle the next day.
It went on like that for a while, except on weekends while being at the castle I also helped Professor McGonagall address letters to new students welcoming them into Hogwarts. Anytime a child started to show magical properties their information was automatically sent to her.
We are welcome to all Muggleborns.
My hand hurt from writting, but luckily I was able to charm my quill to write for me sometimes.
It was coming near the end of the summer and Professor McGonagall mentioned, "You know, you can always stay here?
I asked, "I'm sorry, Professor?"
She replied, "This is always your home. You've lived here all your life. Why not stay and be a teacher?"
I looked at her in astonishment and she continued, "I need a Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher and Head of Gryffindor House and you know very well you're qualified because you have been writting many books for it."
I blushed, I had gotten so many Defense Against the Dark Arts books from Flourish and Blotts, majority of them had different ones in each of them. I published a unified text book. I also included information on a few new spells I found.
She continued, "Of course I don't expect you to come here right away, especially since you're handling all the trials, but I just thought coming part time to teach would be good."
I replied, "Thank you, professor, I will definitely keep that in mind."
I let her words sink in. I could be a teacher, something I've wanted to be for a long time...
I had lunch with Kingsley that day and we had a business meeting really. We were practically done with the trials. We had done over a hundred in three days, all we had to do was get people with the dark mark really. None protested their involvement, if they did, they put up a fight and we're sentenced harsher.
Kingsley said, "We can finally have things go back to normal."
I nodded happily and my brain was turning. Things were going back to normal, maybe I could teach at Hogwarts.
Kingsley asking, "Lilly is everything alright?"
I nodded saying, "Yes, there was actually something I wanted to ask you."
He nodded and said, "Anything."
I replied, "Minerva offered me a job to teach at the school. Defense Against the Dark Arts, as well as Head of Gryffindor House."
He asked, "And you want to take the job?"
I nodded saying, "My time in the Ministry has been fulfilling. I have dealt with so much destruction that I want to create things. What better way than teach students?"
He nodded and said, "You will always be offered a place here in the Ministry, but please don't forget about us here."
I nodded saying, "Don't worry, if I find anymore Death Eaters I will gladly pass the information along. If we need to capture any, I will gladly assist."
He replied, "Well, whenever you want to, I wouldn't mind you popping in and putting your input. This is your place just as mine. Think of it as Senior Advisor to the Minister."
I replied, "Thank you, Kingsley."
He smiled and we hugged.
He said, "Take your boyfriend along with you please? He isn't the best Auror."
I asked, "Potions?"
Kingsley nodded and I chuckled saying, "That's Neville for you. I'll talk him into it."
I traveled to Hogwarts to finish the castle and I talked with Neville about my final decisions. He was happy for me and he was determined to be an Auror like his father.
Later that night, for dinner, all of us met in the Great Hall. This time, not for a battle in war or for trials or to repair the castle, but to spend time together once more.
