ELEVEN
"Your hands can shoot fire?"
Taking a seat in one of the many armchairs scattered around the lounge, Lillian tucked her feet under herself and accepted a mug of coffee from Maria. Now dressed in a warm jumper and sweatpants, she was ready to listen to what her used-to-be-deceased ex-girlfriend had to say.
Carol was continuously rubbing her palms over her jeans, wiping the sweat from her hands in order to distract herself from the task at hand. For the first time since she could remember, Carol was genuinely scared. She had no idea why yet the feeling in her chest was threatening to swallow her up. She could hardly look the blonde in her tired eyes.
The three women drank their coffees in silence. Maria feeling like she had no place to say anything, Lillian having nothing yet to say and Carol having everything to say but had no idea how to say it. As she placed her mug down she heaved a heavy sigh.
"Wendy Lawson wasn't human." Carol blurted out, decidedly throwing Lillian in at the deep end. Said woman almost dropped her coffee on the white carpet at her feet. "She was Kree. A race of noble warrior heroes who fought a war against the Skrulls. However, she realised she was fighting on the wrong side and the lightspeed technology she'd developed was sought after by both sides." Carol paused, waiting for Lillian to call her crazy. Instead, the blonde simply stared and waited for her to continue, her expression blank. "The crash that supposedly killed me was caused by the Kree shooting us out of the air. I survived, Lawson took the brunt of the crash and was dying. She told me she was Kree, hell, her blood was blue.
"It wasn't supposed to happen- the explosion, I mean. It never was going to happen but I had to. The Kree's goal was to take the core, use it for what Lawson knew was wrong. I knew I shouldn't trust them to keep me alive, I couldn't trust them because they killed her. So I shot the core. It exploded and, somehow, all of the power from it came into me.
"When I woke up I didn't know who I was, where I was or why I had so much power. They told me it was a gift, that they could take it away if I couldn't learn to use it. My commander for six years after that was my blood donor... they turned me into one of their own." She moves to kneel beside Lillian's chair, resting her crossed arms on the side of it as she silently pleaded for Lillian to hear her out. "I know it sounds crazy, believe me, it took Maria long enough. But it's true- all of it. I never died, I was unknowingly enslaved by an alien race and was suffering with amnesia. If I remembered you, and Maria and everyone else I would have done everything in my power to come back. Please, Lillian, you have to believe me."
By this point, tears where scattered across the runway that was Lillian Love's face. Carol reached up and wiped the tears from her face before resting her hands there. Nodding as she held onto Carol's hands, Lillian sniffed and spoke- her voice breaking.
"I do, I believe you." Wrapping her arms around the half-human's neck, Lillian buries her face in Carol's hair. "Of course I believe you."

Carol lead Lillian out into Maria's back yard hand in hand. As they descended the few stairs onto the grass they looked up at the night sky. The stars winked down at them, taunting their short-lived reunion.
"So," Lillian sighed, squeezing her hand, "you live up there."
"Not quite," Carol chuckled as she looked over to the woman, "but I will be gone for a while."
Sighing, Lillian looks longingly into Carol's eyes with a small pout.
"But I just got you back..." Carol turns to her, pulling the Lieutenent General close by the hips and pressing a soft kiss to her lips.
"I know, I'm sorry, but I need to go. Lawson wanted this war ending and I have the power to stop it." Pressing another sweet kiss to Carol's lips.
"I know," she mumbles against her lips, "my hero."
Stepping back as Maria and Monica enter the backyard. Monica skipped up to Carol and hugged her harshly, after pulling away, she holds out the old leather jacket with a smile.
"You told me to save it." Smiling, Carol shrugs it over her shoulders and shows it off slightly, the brown contrasting off of the red and blue of the latex-looking suit. Laughing with the eleven-year-old, Carol looks over to Maria and drops her smile slightly.
The two best friends share a half-hug before Carol steps away a decent distance, offering a small wave and looking up at the sky. With a content sigh, her body begins to glow and with a burst of burning light, she flies up into the sky leaving a trail behind her.
Gaping, Lillian moves to stand where she had just been before and nods, glancing back and forth between the sky and Maria.
"Right... fire hands." With a tight smile, Maria takes Monica by the shoulders and guides her inside. Lillian stood and stared at the sky, watching and waiting because maybe, someday, Carol would return to her.
