I suddenly wake, not knowing where I am or how I got here. With my eyes still closed I try to recall the night before. I stifle a groan as I feel my head start to throb. Hangovers are the worst. I force my rigid body upright while slowly opening my eyes. First I duck my head under the covers to check my body. I'm relieved to see that all my clothes are on except my shoes. I then proceed to scan the room, I frown when I realize I am not in my own room. I shut my eyes tightly as the headache stings through my brain.
"Ah..." I groan and clutch my head between my hands. Had I honestly drank that much last night?
I sling my feet off the bed to sit on the edge before taking a moment to recover from the sudden movement. My eyes scan over the room once more. It's a simple room with gray walls which consisted of a double bed, a built in cupboard, a simple headpiece, two night stands and two doors. One door leading to a bathroom and the other leading to somewhere unknown to me. I eye the other door suspiciously as I wait for someone to enter, but after a few minutes I grow bored. I clutch my head once more as I get up from the bed. I drag myself to the bathroom to wash my face and take a drink of water. As soon as the cold water splashes onto my warm face I feel the headache's magnitude lessen. I take a few gulps of the running water, I hadn't realized I was this thirsty. Once I finish I feel my anxiety increase as the fact that I'm not in my own home fills my mind. I take a deep breath and walk toward the first door. With a shaky hand I open the door. A cold gush of wind creeps itself up my body as I take a step. I walk along what seems like a hallway. I spot three doors not far away from the one I had just left. One door on my right and two doors on my left. I slightly increase my pace as I walk past the doors. I furrow my brows as I try to rack my brain for information. Imaged from last night pop up and I remember getting into the car with Harry. My heart rate accelerates as I wonder if this could be where Harry lives. Why didn't he take me home? I run my hand throw my matted hair as I take to the stairs at the end of the hall, making my way down. I gasp in relief when I notice the familiar face of Harry. He doesn't notice me as he proceeds to busy himself in the kitchen. I slowly pad my way over to the kitchen as I admire him. I lean against the counter and watch him, waiting for him to notice me. He turns around and as soon as he notices me he jumps in his spot, almost sending he pan flying. I burst out laughing, unable to contain myself.
"Holy shit Ash." He breathes and shakes his head, only causing my laughter to increase.
"S-sorry." I say in between my laughs. He gives me a bewildered look before returning to what he was doing.
"If I wasn't awake earlier, I am now." He mumbles and walks over to a cabinet to pull out two plates.
"You should have seen your face." I smile and take a seat at one of the counter stools. Harry chuckles and starts piling food onto a plate.
"Feel free to have some." He gestures to the food when he notices me watching him. I clamp my mouth shut as bile rises to my throat at the thought of eating.
"I'm fine." I shakily answer. He frowns and sets down his plate.
"Are you sure?" He eyes me suspiciously, knowing that I am most definitely not fine.
"Hangovers suck." I mumble and wipe a hand over my face. His eyes soften and he nods in understanding.
"Here" He says simply handing me what I assume is a painkiller before pouring me some orange juice.
"Thank you." I blow out a breath before throwing the painkiller into my mouth and gulping away all of the juice. I pull my face in disgust as I set down the glass. Have I mentioned that I hate pills?
"So before you ask," Harry begins and picks up his plate again. He walks over to the dining table and sets down his food. "I brought you back to my place, because honestly I was worried about you and my house was closer. I wanted to keep an eye on you. You woke up as soon as we arrived and needed to throw up. Right after I helped you I took you to bed." He cringes at his choice of words which cause me to laugh.
"I-I meant that you went to sleep."He hastily tries to change his choice of words.
"It's alright Harry, don't worry about it. At least I'm still alive." I smirk and notice the glint of amusement in his eyes.
"I see you're still paranoid." Harry grins and takes a bite of his eggs.
"Not that much anymore." I think aloud.
"It's quite nerve-wracking how comfortable I am with you." I mumble and also take a seat by the dining table.
"How so?" His eyebrows shoot up in interest.
"I honestly think we're past the point of complete strangers, but I'm not sure we're friends. So it's just odd that I'm this fine with being alone with you." I explain and glance at Harry, his expression unreadable.
"How else would you get to know someone? Everyone starts out as strangers." He shrugs and takes another bite of his food.
"True." I sigh and decide to stop worrying about how long I've known Harry and just go with it. Everyone needs to start somewhere, right?
I take a deep breath and realize how annoying my constant thoughts about Harry are. Clearly he has done nothing to hurt or upset me, so why keep pondering about the fact that we have only known each other for a few days. I take a look at Harry and smile. I might as well have known Harry for years, because that's how it feels.
"Sorry." I say suddenly as Harry eats. He shoots me a confused look and sets down his utensils.
"Sorry for being so paranoid. Last night was really nice and I'd like to spend more time with you and your friends." I subtly add the 'and your friends' with the hopes that I don't sound too weird.
"Stop thinking so much Ash. There's nothing wrong with being cautious, but I can assure you, you don't have to be cautious around or with me." He says and gives me a warm smile before picking up his plate and making his way back to the kitchen. An uneasy feeling settles at the back of my mind but I choose to ignore it.
"Alright." I say, more to myself than Harry. Harry gives me a quick look, indicating that he heard me.
After I convince Harry to let me do the dishes and he puts away the remaining food, we decide to rent a few movies and watch it at my place. We leave his home and make our way back to my place, not before stopping at the blockbusters and renting movies. I briefly explain to Harry how relieved I was that I didn't have this hangover on my first day of work. He praised me again for getting the job and also explained to me how much he enjoyed his job. After renting two movies, both of which were scary, we make our way back to my place.
"How late are you starting tomorrow?" Harry makes small talk as we near my place.
"I work from 9 AM until 2 PM if I remember correctly." Harry chuckles and grins at me.
"If you remember? You're supposed to remember." I giggle and scratch the back of my head.
"I know, it just slipped my mind. I'll call Rebecca later to confirm with her." I decide and tap my phone.
"Rebecca?" Harry questions and parks the car.
"Yeah that's the receptionist. Well I think she'd the receptionist. According to Jake, my boss, she's supposed to train me. I'm a bit unsure of everything though." I ramble as we get out of his car.
"It sounds a bit confusing." Harry widens his eyes and shits his door.
"I'll get the hang of it." I shrug and walk in front of Harry to open my door.
As soon as the door opens I hear my phone ring from inside my purse. I gesture for Harry to enter as I clip open my purse and take out my phone. I glance at the caller ID while shutting the door. I sigh and roll my eyes, my mother. I end the call and grit my teeth.
"Do you have siblings?" I ask Harry suddenly as I walk into the kitchen. He swallows and licks his lips before proceeding to put down the pizza and the movies,
"That was sudden?" He questions and eyes me warily.
"Yeah, sorry I was just thinking about my brother," I sigh and take out two glasses from my cabinet. My question to Harry and his reaction completely vanishing.
"You have a brother?" He raises his eyebrows and I nod.
"Yeah, Stephen. He's 21." I sigh and pour Harry and I some cola.
"He lives in America?" Harry studies me while I walk toward the living room.
"Yes." I say clipped, not wanting to delve into my family matters any more than necessary.
"Hmm," He hums and picks up the two movies. "Insidious or Annabelle?" He questions and displays them in front of me. I widen my eyes and take a deep breath. Both movies are said to be very scary and I'm a complete wimp, so it'll be hard to pick one.
"Annabelle. It sounds alright." I say in a small voice, hoping I don't give away the fact that I hate scary movies. I don't mind watching them, but after watching them I scare way too easily.
Harry nods and inserts the movie into the movie player while I make sure the curtains are closed. It was half past two in the afternoon so its possible that the movie will not affect me as much even though my curtains make the living room very dark. I frown and wonder how late we left the club last night. Harry claps his hands together causing me to yelp.
"We haven't even started the movie." Harry laughs and sits down next to me.
"Shut up." I groan and roll my eyes.
