Te Amo
The fundraiser event turned out perfect, even better than she hoped it would; they were able to raise fifteen million dollars for the special kids; a tremendous success, another job well done by Lana.
Still, in shock at Steve's surprise, she is left thinking about where could all these gestures be leading to, he seems to have feelings for Lana but nothing is set in stone yet; he hasn't established anything of the sort, so Lana doesn't want to assume things even though she's beginning to have romantic feelings for him.
Diane makes herself a beverage, sat close to the fireplace, and noticed Lana looked tucked away in her thoughts.
"Lana, what's wrong? Is this about Steve being the mysterious CEO thingy? Get over it, babe.."
Lana exhaled sharply and rolled her eyes.
"No Dee, not really, it's just that the last time I felt like this for anyone, it didn't end well, you know what happened.
Diane clicked her tongue; shaking her head and wagging her index finger.
"Lana we made a promise to each other never to speak of it again, for Christ sake you're not a Murderer, it was a mistake, you have to let it go and stop blaming yourself"
Lana's eyes get welled up with tears.
"No Diane it was my fault, I shouldn't have pushed him that hard!"
Diane hugs Lana and kisses her on her forehead to console her.
"Lana you're not a Murderer, you did what you had to, smile now... come on"
Lana wipes her tears, "Thank you, Dee Dee, I needed to hear that, what will I do without you."
They stopped crying; Diane tickles Lana, it brightens up the mood a little and they both laughed over it.
"So what should we have for breakfast, I'm thinking pancakes and scrambled eggs, what do you think Lana?"
" Sounds perfect Dee Dee"
They both had breakfast and curled up on the couch talking, something they haven't done in a while.
Lana was on her phone, surfing on the internet when Diane abruptly said, "So... this Steve.... I think he's into you, you got him whipped girl!"
"Nah... let's not jump to conclusions just yet Dee... yeah he's good-looking, wealthy... obviously! And those eyes; oh God, I could get lost in them" Lana swooned.
Diane claps her hand, clicking her tongue, it a habit of hers, "Hmmm... someone's in Upendi"
Lana raises her eyebrows while squinting her eyes, "U- what??" Diane grabbed a pillow and hit Lana with it, "You're in love silly!"
"Yeah, I guess I am" Lana replied.
Immediately Lana's phone rang, it's Steve calling, "Shh he's the one calling me right now..." Lana answered the phone.
"Hello..."
"Hello, beautiful... how are you?"
"I'm doing good... you?"
"I'm great! Though there's something that can make me feel even better"
"Hmmm and what will that be; O'witty Steve"
"Seeing your beautiful face, how about I come to pick you up by 5 this evening, I wanna take you to my favorite place in the city, what do you say?"
"I will love that!"
"Great! Your address?"
"Oh....ok Uhm... it's 2311 Wall Street Avenue L.A... I'll text it to you"
"Awesome! See you soon beautiful..."
"Ok bye..."
As the call ended Lana and Diane screeched in excitement like a couple of teenage girls.
"Oh my God, Lana! That's it! He's into you" Diane shrieked.
Lana, jumping on the couch celebrating like she won a lottery, Diane was doing the same.
"Why am I so excited like this Dee, I feel like a teenager who was asked to the prom by the captain of the football team"
It was 5 minutes past 5 o'clock and the doorbell rang, Diane opened it and of course, it was Steve, "Please come in" Diane invited him in; a few seconds later Lana came out of her room to the sitting room, she was on a flowery sleeveless chiffon wrapping dress and nude-colored sandals, it looked graceful on her, Lana has a great sense of fashion. Steve was on a grey shirt and black pants, the color goes so well with his dreamy blue eyes, they're both ready and out they go, Diane waved them goodbye, smiling from ear to ear.
The drive was quiet and a little awkward, loquacious Steve was so not so chatty this time, Lana tried breaking the ice, "So... where are we going to?"
Steve turned to Lana and smiled, "It's another surprise..." Lana nodded but still looked curious, he wasn't heading in the direction of where the restaurants or lounges are, "Or maybe we're going to an opera" Lana thought to herself. She got tucked away in her thoughts.
Moments after Steve pulled up the car, he stopped at a park by a lake, there was no one there; Lana got a little frightened, Steve didn't come off as the gloomy and silent type and all of a sudden he's quiet; acting all strange but amongst it all, she kept her cool.
Steve held her by her hand and walked her to the bench overseeing the entire lake; it was a nice view, they both sat down; the place was secluded, serene, and very peaceful. This is a side of Steve she has never seen before and she had a good feeling about it.
They were both quiet for a few minutes, enjoying the serenity of the place and then Steve breaks the silence.
"I come here to refresh my mind, it's my favorite place in this whole city"
Lana has not seen Steve this serious, so she teased him a little by saying the place must be one of his make-out spots; he scoffed a little and said.
"You're the first person I'm bringing here Lana, I lost someone dear to me and anytime I'm here I feel the person is still with me"
Lana apologized for her previous comment immediately after he said that.
"Oh my... I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be insensitive"
Steve picked up a stone and throws it in the lake, "Nah it's fine, you were only trying to lighten the mood... we used to come here and write great songs together, though it was a long time ago"
There was another awkward moment of silence, judging by what he said, that person might be an ex of his but she didn't feel comfortable asking him that; so she broke the silence this time.
"It's a nice place... it's beautiful; thanks for sharing it with me."
A soothing breeze blew, Steve turned to Lana, looked into her eyes, and said.
"Lana... you must be wondering why I brought you here..." he paused for a while and continued.
"There's something unique about you, there's a way I feel when I'm around you or when I see you, I've never felt that way before..."
Lana's heart pounding in her chest, looking at him, tight-lipped.
"I believe our paths crossed for a reason, you're too good to be just a coincidence, meeting you is by fate, I just know it, I can't quite place my finger on it but something is compelling about you Lana, the way you laugh, the feel of your hands on mine, the way you talk... everything about you mesmerizes me, I'm in love with you Lana"
She didn't know what to say or do, Lana was lost in his eyes and the words he said to her melted her heart, Steve pulled her in for a kiss, their first kiss.
"I'm in love with you too" Lana whispered.
