Ezra

The waves crashed along the shore as I did my early beach run. Jack&Jack blasted through my earbuds. I walked in the water for my cooldown as the pier came into view. Swaying to the music I climbed up the ramp to the boardwalk. I unlocked my compartment and pulled out my clothes, backpack, and skateboard.

Leaving my training bikini top and board shorts on, I pulled my tank and knee length shorts over them. With a quickened pace I laced my green hightops and found my dad's old Avon lifeguard hat. Stepping onto my board I managed to sling my bag on my back, and turn my hat backwards.

"Time for school." I sighed.

Nearing school, my phone got blasted by my two best friends. Cora, the accident prone one, was yelling at me for going to be late, and not wearing a helmet. While Katie, the humorous one, was telling me "Good morning" or "How are you"

"Friends." I laughed. "Can't survive without them."

I turned into the parking lot when I heard my name.

"Ezra! Finally!" Cora yelled. "Come on, we have like seven minutes."

"Relax." I told her picking up my board. "We have like seven minutes." I mocked.

She sighed in frustration as she opened the door to Neptune Township High School. I scanned the hallways. For four years of my life this was everyday. I reached my locker, punched in my code, and threw my board in. From there I sprinted to class and took my seat as the bell rang.

I looked back with a smirk to see Cora roll her eyes and Katie give me a thumbs up. My home room teacher, Mr. Reese, walked in to explain the day, but I reached into my pocket and grabbed my right earbud. Casually, I lifted my hand and placed it in my ear unseen. It's good to be me.

Three hours passed when the Principal, Mr. Jones, began his end of the year speech. He began with honoring all of the school's accomplishments. Then, went on to the freshman. After that the sophomores. Continuing with the juniors. And finally ending with the seniors.

Tapping my desk I waited for that bell to ring. The clock was ticking down to our freedom. Five minutes, four minutes, three minutes to go. I looked back to my friends. I bit my lip and held back a smile. I grabbed my bag up off the floor and rested it on my shoulder. The bell rang and I was out of that classroom, wishing my former teacher a good summer.

Running to my locker I started hearing Cora's voice.

"E! Wait up!" She groaned.

She was out of breath. Cora was the non athlete of the group. When either Katie or I had a sporting event Cora would be up in the stands cheering us on. What a good friend! Am I right?

"Why do you have to go so fast?" She complained.

I laughed grabbing my skate board.

"What? Do you have a cramp or something?"

Katie laughed.

"So beach?"

I waited patiently for my best friends to answer. After a long pause, Katie answered.

"The beach!"

I jumped in satisfaction. Together, the three of us walked out of the building and hopped into Katie's truck. Saying goodbye to our senior year, we pulled out of that parking lot with our heads held high and our hands in the air.

Singing along to Shawn Mendes we pulled up to the beach. I was the first to get out of the car.

"Come on!" I yelled at the girls.

"Relax Ez." Katie sighed.

I rolled my eyes and deciding to start without them, I began walking. For the second time today I unlocked my compartment and threw my board, clothes, and shoes in. Keeping my hat, I flipped it around to keep the sun out of my eyes.

As I'm taking my clothes off, a voice comes up from behind.

"If it isn't Neptune High School's tomboy?!"

I turned around to face Chris Carpenter, who also just graduated. Continuing to take off my shorts I answered him.

"In flesh and bone."

"I would hope." He laughed.

I rolled my eyes.

"Don't you have to go hang out with your lifeguard friends or something?"

"Nah." He scoffed. "Eric and Tyler are off today. Only Jay's working, and he's not as fun as making fun of you."

I took a deep breath and smiled.

"Grow up Chris." And I walked away.

Meeting up with Katie and Cora, they asked what happened.

"Oh you know, Chris was just being a jerk. Nothing new."

The girls nodded and we continued finding a spot to put our stuff. With Katie leading the way, we found a spot in no time. I placed my towel on the sand and put my Oakleys on. I sat on my towel and laid back. To cover my eyes from the sun I slipped off my hat and placed it over my face.

With the soothing sound of waves crashing my surroundings were beginning to fade. I felt my tiredness from my run coming at me. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes, falling asleep.
