Merida POV

Bullets were soaring. Chaos surrounded me. Then all of a sudden time stopped. 

The van Hiccup had been in exploded in front of my eyes. I screamed as I watched the flames erupt from the vehicle. I tried to run towards him but I felt arms around me holding me back. I couldn't breathe as I fought whoever was holding me back, trying desperately to get to Hiccup. 

"Let me go!" I shrieked.

"Mer you can't run into an active fire. We need you to fight. Hiccup needs you to fight." Jack's voice pleaded, breaking as he tried to keep it together. I fell to my knees as I watched the smoke float up to the sky. The weight of a world without him was crushing me. "You have to get up." 

"I can't!" I shook my head, squeezing my eyes shut, desperately hoping it was all a dream. 

"You have to." I kept shaking my head, refusing to open my eyes. I was prepared to give up when I heard Punzie scream. My eyes snapped open as I searched through the swarm of battling agents. My eyes landed on Rapunzel. She was being dragged away by her hair. She tried to fight back but she was clearly struggling. As I caught sight of one of my best friends I remembered why we were fighting. I couldn't give up now. No matter what, Hiccup would want me to keep fighting. I pulled out my gun and shot the man who was holding Punzie allowing her to get away. I tried not to look over at the flaming van. 

"Elsa?" Jack's grip on my shoulders loosened slightly as the name fell from his lips. I followed his gaze to Elsa marching out of the agency doors, an entire army of agents behind her. He helped me up and we pushed our way through until we reached her, Punzie joining us along the way. As soon as he stepped in front of her, Elsa threw her arms around him. They stayed in each other's embrace breathing in and holding each other, ignoring the chaos all around us. 

"I'm so sorry." She mumbled. They pulled back and he cupped her cheeks, looking into her eyes. They were filled with that warm familiarity again. 

"It worked." Hiccup's plan had worked. At least it wasn't all for nothing. 

"Where's Eugene?" Rapunzel asked, searching the crowd of faces that had accompanied Elsa into battle. Elsa's face fell as she glanced at Anna.

"He was shot," Anna told them though Elsa looked like she had more to say on the subject. "He's going to be okay, Ingrid's with him." She added.

"Where's Hiccup?" Kristoff asked me. I made eye contact with Astrid who immediately understood. She came forward and pulled me into her arms as I fought back the tears. Elsa was beyond pissed off.

"We have lost friends, family and even ourselves but this ends tonight," Elsa called out. She reached for my hand and I took hers. "Tonight, we win this war. For Hiccup!" 

"For Hiccup!" Everyone cheered before rushing past Elsa into the fight. She kept me in place, still holding my hand. It was comforting to have her back when I needed her most. 

"I'm glad you're back," I smiled as much as I could.

"Me too." She smiled back though I could see the fury in her eyes. "Now come on. We have a war to win."
