stay with me

I pick up my phone

Another crappy story about me. I throw my phone to the ground. Sprawling on my couch, I think of last night. The food was really good... RIGHT! I spring up grabbing my phone off the floor. Arti told me to text her, I can't believe I forgot.

I open my phone before stopping myself. I look to the tv, dropping my phone in horror. The plane Julian was on, blew up due to a terrorist attack.

It soon got out, Julian died from the plane he was on.

Days, and weeks go by, the silence seems unreal. Like it couldn't get any quieter. One day I stand opening the blinds. A child with an adult, beaming with vibrance. I tidy up my room before heading downstairs, I pick up my phone. I stare blankly at my phone Arti...

Hey do you wanna see eachother? I know you feel pretty bad

Sending that message eases my thoughts. I open the vanity, right by the front door. I pull out a pack of cigarettes, it was the brand Julian always liked. I hold them examining them. Am I really gonna smoke? I don't even think I have a lighter.

I step in my kitchen, cigarette pack in hand. I look around, I could make some coffee. Bending down, I pull out the coffee maker and fidgeting with the plug. It's been forever since I've made coffee... I usually just get coffee at the coffee shop.

I think about what the coffee shop name was again. Until the coffee maker beeps signifying it's ready to make some coffee. I set the coffee maker and make some coffee. I go to the fridge to pull out the creamer as well as the caramel sauce.

A few minutes go by, and I start staring off into space. My phone snaps me out of it, as it rings on the counter. I close the fridge, stopping the waste of electricity. A phone call I pick it up wondering what could be in store. Silence... the name says Arti, it still has the heart emojis...

"Arti?" I say in a concerning tone, holding the phone up to my ear. Quiet sniffles then more silence... "Arti?" I ask again. "Yes-yes sorry I'm kinda... um.." I can hear the unsettling desperation in her voice.

For someone so happy, and in line with her life. It's almost scary to hear her. "Would you like me to visit-" Arti cuts me off "Yes." She hangs up. I lay down my phone placing my index finger over my lip.

Running my hand through my hair, I sigh from exhaustion. Why... I finish running the coffee. I pour the creamer, but then I feel like somethings missing. So I pull out the almost empty whipped cream. The whipped cream spurts out it's final essence before being no good.

I throw the empty no cream can away. But then I pull it out again, because it's mandatory to always crack the cans before you throw them away. I smile, I learned that from Julian. The moment passes and I just stare at the trashcan that sits under my sink. My smile fades, I miss him already.

I sit on my couch, looking at my freshly made coffee. I don't feel like drinking it anymore, because coffee was our thing. I mean me and Julian literally met at a coffee shop, that I still go to often. I stare at the teddy he got me as a gift, before I moved into this house.

I swiftly stand taking my coffee to my bathroom. I look in the mirror, my eyebags are still there something that'll never leave me. I take care of myself. Before leaving, I fumble with the cigarettes. Cherry flavored... that's Julian for you.

 I walk towards the city.

It's too late to wait for the next train. I grab a taxi heading to the end to my district. Jeez the prices are crazy nowadays. Inflation has really hit at least with transportation. I paypal the driver before walking to the underground subway. Large amounts of people fill the subway.

Babies wail, nasty decisions shrouding either work, bills, or school. After the train finally comes, I head in. Due to the crazy amount of people, I have to stand this time. Irritated I pull out my phone, plugging in my earbuds. I think about her.

She always stays in my memory. Arti is just wonderful she was always there... I look to the window. I wish I lived closer, maybe then we wouldn't be so distant. The train wains with the people inside. Yet another day, you know it never really changes...

I stick to myself against the wall. Reaching Arti's apartment, the door opens before I could knock. Arti sniffles loudly rubbing her pink eye. Arti is in baggy clothes, hair out and frizzy. I open the door more letting myself inside.

I shut the door behind me, rushing to Arti's side. I take away her arm shushing her. "Hey...hey-hey, it's okay I'm here..." I bring her close, holding her up. I caress her cheek. Scooping her up in my arms off the ground. She whispers in my ear avoiding my eyes. "Can you...could you...stay tonight?"

I nod, opening the door to her room. The smell of her lingers in her room. Just the scent of it, is refreshing. She's still a clean freak. I think about how messy my house is still. My heads not in this situation. I lay her down Arti takes hold of my sleeves and pulls me close.

"stay with me" she whispers ever so breathless...
