6 | I Got Words In My Eyes
*Blue's POV*
Adam, Bree, Chase, and Leo had taken me to a place they called the Lab. I was taken aback by the high tech in this place as they tried naming off all the inventions, including their capsules.
"You guys aren't keeping me here to kidnap me are you?" I joked. That was the first time I'd joked in a while.
"Well, since you know about our bionics, we figured you should stay around us for right now," Bree said cautiously. She glanced at Chase and he nodded permission, "you see, Blue, there is... A man, his name is Krane, and he is trying to hurt us. He has bionic powers too, and he's trying to build a bionic army in order to eliminate us. That's why we're going to keep you here. Because if he finds out that you know about us, he can use you as bait and hurt you in order to lure us to him."
I stared at them.
This was a whole lot to take in. "I understand." I nodded my head, and then suddenly an idea came to mind. "Wait, if your father is Donald Davenport, one of the most smartest people on the world, aside from Chase," I smiled at him, "then maybe you guys can help me."
They looked at me with confused expressions. "Everyone makes fun of my eyes. You aren't just born with these abnormal magenta eyes. Whenever I look closely at them in the mirror, it looks like my eyes aren't eyes at all, the magenta coloring looks like it has words in it. Something is wrong with them and maybe since you guys know so much, maybe you could help me."
Chase started nodding really fast, like he had an idea and grabbed my arm, pulling me to a console and began typing, pausing to tell Bree to go get Mr. Davenport.
"Wait so you have words in your eyes?" Adam asked me and I nodded. "Oh my gosh that's weird!"
"Thanks for clarifying that." I pressed my lips together in utter frustration. This was the day that I may finally figure out what was wrong with me. Why my eyes had words in them. What was going on.
I didn't even realize what I was doing until I hugged Chase from the side. He stopped typing to pull me closer than I had wanted, but I didn't move for some reason. "So, you're super smart?" I asked into his chest.
"Technically the smartest person on the earth." He smiled into my hair. Finally, I realized how close we were and pulled back slowly, unsure, and then stepped back to watch Mr. Davenport hurry in.
He took a good look at me and then asked me to take a seat on top of a counter space so he could get a good look at my eyes. Boosting myself up onto the counter, Mr. Davenport grabbed a machine and rolled it towards me, then flicked on a light that turned the machine to an electric blue.
"This is my magnifier machine, it allows me to be able to see deep into the color of your eyes. All you need to do is put your chin on this little flap and don't blink." I hesitated, looking at this scary looking machine.
"This isn't going to hurt, is it?"
Mr. Davenport widened his eyes and then started laughing, turning his head to Chase, who was right next to me. "Certainly not for me!"
He moved the machine closer to me and I rested my chin on the flap, staring wide eyed into what appeared to be a giant light. I thought I was going to turn blind for a moment.
"Okay, and now... Don't move and don't blink. If you do it will catch the recorder off guard." I did as he told me to, trusting him only because he's known for being a genius and could possibly help me.
He gasped suddenly. "What? Mr. Davenport, what did you see?" Chase asked, as Mr. Davenport looked more closely into the machine.
"Mr. Davenport, what's wrong?" I asked, choking on my words.
((Pictures are of what Mr. Davenport is seeing))
He suddenly stood straight, and shoved the machine aside, and grabbed a flashlight, shining it straight in my eyes. I tried not to blink, but gasped in pain at the sudden brightness. "What do you want me to do, go blind?" I snapped, covering my eyes.
Mr. Davenport grabbed my cheek and the top of my head, and looked closely at my eyes, squinting to get a better look. After a while, he stood back and coughed. "Well, I can tell you that you are definitely going to be staying here for a while."
"Why?" I asked, curiously. "What did you see?"
He hesitated. "Well, there are words encrypted in your eyes. The text isn't visible but a little bit of work can make it legible, but that's not what I'm worried about."
Chase and I both looked at him, confused. Chase turned around to look at my eyes, which felt very strange.
Are they glowing? I thought for a second, feeling as though I saw a tint of magenta on everything I was looking at.
"Blue, I don't know..."
"Tell me." I hissed feverishly.
He looked kind of scared. What's going on? "Blue... You may not be human..."
"What?" I screamed, leaping off of the table.
"I second that, what?" Chase cried out after me.
"What I saw at first was writing and scribbles on your eyes but then... It was like, your eyes were full of energy. They looked paranormal. They started glowing and I could tell that there was power in your eyes."
"Wait. Is she bionic?" Chase asked, looking at me.
I had to say, I was wondering too. What did he mean I wasn't human?
"No. She's something different... I don't know what she is. But I'm pretty sure she isn't human-"
"I am too human," I gasped, "I bleed, I cry, I get hurt. Isn't that human? Because if that isn't what I am, then tell me exactly what I am! Am I a monster?"
"No, you aren't a monster. I just need to figure out exactly what you are, but I can tell you that you are not human. This is going to take time, and if you notice any changes with your eyes, tell Chase or me. I still need to figure out a way that I can use a magnifier to look at the writing, but you're right, you aren't just born like this..."
I looked down at my hands, and when I looked back up, I saw my reflection on one of the consoles. My eyes... They were glowing.
"I'm not normal..." I whispered and ran out of the Lab, through the tunnel, and out through the living room, and out into the night. I didn't care what they said. I pretended I didn't hear Chase calling after me. I just kept running. I didn't want to stay with them, I didn't want to go home, I just wanted to run.
And I kept running.
I just... Ran. I didn't know where I was going, I just knew I needed to get as far away from them as possible. I wasn't human. I was a monster.
I didn't know what I was anymore.
You know, it's kind of hard for a 15 year old girl to take all these events in one night. And I didn't think I could handle it. I can hardly even handle not lying, how could I possibly hold this? Just another rock added to the boulder that I had to push in order to survive. And that boulder... It was no where near small.
And I knew that nobody was going to bother to help me push it out of the way.
Maybe if I ran fast enough, I could reach the speed of light and get out of here. Away from everyone. But the harder I tried, the more I failed.
Let's just say I failed the entire night away.
