4 | First Impressions

*Blue's POV*

Okay.

This 'study session' seemed to take longer than I had planned. Chase and I hadn't even had a chance to work because first, Leo tried flirting with me then asking me questions about what all I know about Chase. Then the girl named Bree (who's actually super nice) started getting all giggly and shouldering Chase. And then the one named Adam kept making fun of Chase. Oh, and the best part-

"There is a talking robot on the wall?" I pointed at the little talking robot- thing that had been making unnecessary comments about me and my eyes. Chase opened his mouth to say something, but Bree cut him off. "Yeah, that's Eddy. He's Mr. Davenport's best friend and he also has access to every room."

"Like, even in the showers?" I asked and widened my eyes as all four nodded their heads, Leo with a creeped out look on his face. "Okay, that is just plain creepy."

"Look who's talking, Pink Eye." Eddy laughed. I looked up at the sky and tried hard not to scream.

"Why does everyone have to mention that?"

"For the record, I think they're gorgeous." Everything seemed to pause at Chase's words. He- he thought they were gorgeous?

He seemed to notice my expression because he started blushing. "W-wow, uh, thanks, Chase. No one has ever said that about them." Isn't it kind of weird to be talking about my eyes like they're actually a person?

"Chase, slow down things a little bit, man." I watched with raised eyebrows and a smirk as Adam slapped Chase on the back and Chase looked frustrated.

"How many times do I have to tell you guys? It's not a date, I'm her tutor, you know what that is, right?"

"Yeah, it means that you two get to spend a lot of time at each other's houses." Bree answered matter-of-factly.

I frowned, the idea forming in my head. Chase... At my house? With mom? No. NO.

"Uh, actually, I would prefer if I just come here." I said, trying not to sound too nervous. Chase looked at me funny.

               "What's wrong with your-"

"NOTHING!" I cried out then laughed slowly, trying not to make myself look like an idiot. Too late, "I mean, nothing's wrong with it, duh, I just mean... Uh..."

They were all staring at me. I couldn't tell them the truth! I was still planning little revenge plots on everyone. "Stop staring at me." I said and they just stared even more. They exchanged glances every now and then.

"What?" I asked, fully aware I probably was making a terrible first impression.
"Nothing, we just... Uh...." Chase stammered.

Great. At least I'm not the only one who's nervous about this whole thing.

About an hour later Chase and I were sitting on the floor, textbooks and paper splayed everywhere. I had my chin on the table and Chase was helping me to complete this stupid english worksheet.

"Okay," he said, and I looked down at the poem that I had been forced to read to him five minutes ago. "What was the plot of the poem?"

Why was that question always on everything? I thought back to the poem, which was about a man who met a lady and they fell in love until she died from an illness and the man blamed the spirits for it. So... Is the plot about her dying or the man blaming a spirit? My head was pounding.

When I looked back up, I saw Chase was staring at me, expecting an answer. "I don't know," I sighed, grabbing my purple pencil and staring at the prompt again until it blurred.

"Blue, be honest, are you even trying?" Chase asked me, and I could tell he was getting annoyed.

I glared at him for a moment before realizing how long I had been staying here. It was almost 7.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm trying. I have to go."

"You just staring at the work and saying I don't know for every question, isn't trying. Don't you care about your grades?"

Chase asked me as I packed up my bag. "No. I don't care about them. And for the record, you shouldn't either. I don't need help. I'm fine on my own." Chase followed me to the door and I rested my hand on the handle.

"You're not fine. What's up with you? You've been acting strange at school, here, and in every class that I have with you. Is something going on at home?"

"This isn't an interrogation sesh, Chase. I don't want to talk about it."

Just as I opened the door, Chase spoke once again. Why wouldn't he leave me alone?

"What's it going to take to break you?"

I stopped suddenly. What did he mean by that?

"As in get the truth out of me?" He nodded.

I smirked at him as I walked outside. "Impossible, Chase. You can't break me."

And with that, I walked through the windy night towards home, where I hoped and prayed that mom would be asleep by the time I got there.

...................................

When I got home, I noticed something strange.

Mom wasn't in the living room or in her bedroom and she hadn't left a poorly written note.

I walked around the house, in search of her, but found none. Great. I thought, for once not being sarcastic. This means that I actually probably won't get killed tonight.

I quickly took a shower and put on my PJ's which consisted of a gray tank top that read: SORRY I CAN'T I HAVE TO WALK MY UNICORN and a pair of zebra leggings. As I was brushing my hair in the mirror, my phone went off and I snatched it off of the counter.

            1 new message

Stabbing the buttons, I opened up a message from Chase:

CHASE:
(9:45)

Hey, Blue. I was just wondering if you're free for the next couple days?

I smirked as I typed back a reply.

ME:
(9:46)

Are you asking me on a date?

CHASE:
(9:47)

What? NO! I just- wait, are you kidding me? I'm your TUTOR not your BOYFRIEND.

ME:
(9:48)

Good cause you never will be.

All of a sudden I realized what I had just said and  the hairbrush dropped to the floor with a clang.

ME:
(9:48)

WAIT, Chase no, I didn't mean that! I'm sorry.

CHASE:
(9:49)

It's fine. But trust me, I'm not interested in you, I like another girl. This is just a business relationship.

ME:
(9:49)

Oh, yeah of course. Right... Well, I have to go.

CHASE:
(9:50)

What about the rest of this week?

ME:
(9:50)

           I'm always free.

CHASE:
(9:51)

         Okay? Bye.

ME:
(9:52)

          Yeah, bye.

As soon as I turned my phone off, I hurled it across the bathroom, making it clang into the still wet shower. I heard the sizzling of electricity and breathed deep breaths. Why was I so freaked out? So what if Chase liked another girl. It didn't matter to me... Right?

I'm not in love with him. I'm not.

Like he said, this is just a stupid business relationship, nothing more.

Then why do I feel like I need to see him?

I wasn't sure I was ready for the answer to that.
