So I had a conversation with my father a little while ago about gender vs. sexuality and I can now tell you what he told me but in a different way.

So when my father grew up gender equaled sexuality so technically talking about a child changing their gender seemed like talking about the child's sexuality so it was mainly seen a sexualizing children and therefore child abuse.
