Chapter 20
Forcas' Point-Of-View
"We've been lying low for some time now. When does the real action being?" Enep asks with a huge grin. She watches excitedly as a crowd of mortals walk by us then suddenly becomes annoyed. "We haven't even made our presence known. I want to put this body to good use!"
I roll my eyes as we continue to walk towards the clearing. A huge crowd of young mortals surrounds us as we all head to the entrance. "That sound is infuriating! Make it stop!" Hissed Botis, covering his ears.
"I believe the mortals call it music," Danny says while pointing to a speaker, connected to a wooden pole a few feet away. "It's like that small box back at the house. It amplifies the music so everyone can hear."
"I don't like it!" Botis snaps.
After our small battle with the angels days ago, we had gone into town and eventually saw the flyers for tonight's festivities. After speaking with a nice, elderly couple, we concluded no one would ever come looking for them. So we killed them and took shelter in their home. Not that it mattered.
"Should we really draw attention to ourselves?" I ask looking around. "I know this angel or demon is around here. I want to know why he's staying close to this disgusting village. There are so many other places to escape to. Why stay near a portal? It's not logical." I look around unamused. He, for sure, will be here because the entire village is here.
"Its not called a village, Forcas. I believe it's called a town," Azza explains as he watches a tractor trailer drive by.
I close my eyes, suppressing my annoyance. I loathe being corrected.
The mortals around us are laughing and talking happily as we approach the open field. "Logic dictates that we will find this immortal. He has been here for some time now and no one is after him. No one from the boundary or edge. Why is that?" I ask looking around confused and suddenly amused.
"An escaped Fallen? Like us?" Danny ask, a puzzled look on his face.
"No, Danny. If he was, this area would be infested with Seraphim. He is something else. You know their objectives are always to obliviate those who have escaped. No matter what."
Glasyalabos sniffs the air and growls. We all look at him as Azza pets him.
I turn my head slightly towards Labos and he begins to speak to us. We all sniff the air unison. "Yes, Labos. I can smell it too. There's two of them." I grin. This is not expected but it makes me very happy. Very intriguing."
We rake our faces as if pulling off a mask from our neck up. We are now visible to the mortals and are wearing clothing stolen from a store in Des Moines.
Of course we disintegrated the owner of that store.
Labos is the only one who will remain hidden from the mortals and for obvious reasons. He cannot shift to fit in. All the same, he will not leave our side.
The five of us shave off a couple of feet from our heights. We don't want to stick out like sore thumbs. It's bad enough we already do. We are strangers in a town where everyone knows one another.

Emery's Point-Of-View
I don't stop running until I make it through the trees and stop in front of the maze entrance. The hanging lights above me automatically turn on. I am out of breath and panicking. I still don't know what the hell is going on!
Damn Levi for never telling me what the hell is going on at the exact moment!
Finding my bearings through the maze is still as easy as the last time. I know where every dead end is and avoid it. I did, however, turn around from time to time. Who knows if anything is following me back here.
I hope not!
I reach the fountain and sit on the ledge out of breath. Closing my eyes, I hope with all my might that Levi and Vartan are okay.
Whatever it is, it's still under wraps because I still hear laughter, screaming, and music coming from the festival.
My phone beeps and it causes me to jump! Hopefully, it's Levi.
I pull it out and examine my phone. It's a text message from my aunt. Sad to say I'm a little disappointed.
Alice:
Hey, kid! Daddy and I are leaving. He's tired and a little drunk. Let me know if you need a ride back home. I'll come and get you when you are ready. Have fun!
I exhale in relief. It isn't Levi, but I now know my family will be safe at home.
Me:
Okay, no problem! I'll catch a ride with Levi. Goodnight!
I put my phone away and remove my hair tie. I begin massaging my scalp because I feel a headache coming on.
What is taking so long? Does Levi really think I am just expected to sit here and not worry?
Why hasn't he contact me by now? I stand from the fountain and massage my neck when the lights above me start to flicker on and off.
I freeze.
They continue to flicker and suddenly cut off altogether, leaving me standing in total darkness.
Oh, no!
Panic starts to set in as I wave my hands in front of me. I can't see them! Not even the stars are visible.
What is going on?!
My breathing stops when I suddenly can't hear anything. Not even the noise coming from the festival.
I am beyond terrified! It's as if I am in a steel box. No sound or light.
I start to reach for anything to grab on to. The fountain is the closet so I bend forward and walk slowly in search of it.
What if there's something in here with me?! Looking around, I still can't see anything.
I find the ledge quickly and sit.
I am so scared! I pull my phone out and hit the button for the screen to come light up. Anything to shine a light around the garden.
It doesn't turn on! "Turn on you stupid piece of technology," I whisper out loud through gritted teeth.
I scoff. Of course, it won't come on. The phone is fully charged. Why isn't it working?!
Gathering some courage, I stand slowly and put my phone away. I take two steps away from the fountain when a soft, purple light radiates from behind me.
I turn slowly and see it's coming from the fountain water. I look up at the Angel Statue. It's still in its same position. Hands resting on its sword.
I take a step forward and look over the ledge. The water is calm. A soft wind blows by, causing the hair in the back of me neck stand. It also creates a ripple in the water. I slowly start to see something.
A person.
I slowly bend towards the ground, getting on my knees and leaning slightly into the fountain. I look around again to make sure nothing is inside the maze with me.
Nothing.
Another ripple passes and I'm pulled gently into the fountain by an invisible force.
It feels like a dream. I don't feel the water's wetness but I feel as if I'm floating.
Floating above the clouds. I close my eyes and feel the gentle winds all over my body, whipping through my hair. I don't know where I'm going, nor do I care I just love this feeling of floating in the clouds.
After a while, I open my eyes and see that I am floating above a cornfield. One that seems too familiar to me. It's dark and there is a huge crater of fire in the middle of the field.
I squint. It looks like something is crawling out of it.
I look up and see Seraphim flying all around me. They are absolutely beautiful. They look nothing like Levi and Vartan in Seraph form. Instead of two wings, these angels have four wings. Reminds me of the butterflies that always fly around Levi's garden.
Looking closer, I notice there eyes are white. No color to them at all. They are also covered in a shroud of golden light, breathtaking and memorize it.
Can they see me?
I open my mouth to call out to them but no words escape my lips. They can't see me. Instead, they concentrate toward the pit.
Following their gaze, I now see that there are five naked people standing around and what looks like a huge dog.
This isn't good. Did they just crawl out of the ground?! They can't be human.
I look to my left and see a black car speeding down the road. A huge gust of wind comes out of nowhere and the entire cornfield sways. The black car is suddenly hit with a red lightening bolt.
I remember this!
This is the night of that storm in Des Moines. Levi and I are in the Porsche.
Oh my god!
Those things that crawled out of the hole are demons!
I turn back to the Seraphim, trying to get there attention. It's of no use. One by one, they all start to plummet as red streaks of lightening come from every direction towards them and hit them. It's the demons! They are throwing bolts into the sky!
As they are hit and begin to fall, they explode into blinding but beautiful golden light that diminishes into a puff a smoke.
Oh my god! That is the light that had me blinded that night. The Seraphim were being killed!
I try to yell out but it's no use! No one can hear me.
What is going on?! Someone has to stop the demons!
I turn around one last time, to see where all the demons have gone when I hear a growl.
A huge, black-winged wolf comes flying at me. His mouth is open wide, a look of hunger is written on his face. His four rows of teeth are the last thing I see before I yell in terror.
