Chapter 14
Emery's Point-of-View
"That was insane!" I say laughing, raking my hand through my hair. "I've never been to a club before. Are they always like that?" I continue to walk ahead towards Levi's car.
I turn around and look at him. He is still very upset.
"What's your problem?" I stop and ask him.
"Nothing!" He snaps walking ahead of me. He suddenly turns around and gets in my face. "I asked you not to move and you were so easily smitten by a stranger. He could've-!" Levi stops.
"You said you'd be gone for a short while. Don't be mad at me because your friend wanted to dance with me! It's not like you would've."
"He's not my friend!" He roars as his eyes grow red.
As if he scares me! I huff. "You don't scare me! So stop with the theatrics. And you act like we're in a relationship were you can dominate me. Cut it out! It's not happening!" I turn and walk away.
"You could've been killed! You don't even know what those things are that you were dancing near."
I can't believe him! I turn around in shock. "Did you forget that you took me in there and forgot about me? You literally grabbed my hand and dragged me in there. I'm a moody, psychotic, jealous angel! Don't move, Miss Summer!" I yell, trying to mock him the best way I can.
"You were never in any danger! I could smell you." He suddenly looks at me with disgust. "I knew something was wrong when I felt your lust for Vartan."
I scoff. "What is it with you and jealousy?"
His anger slowly dissolves, like a kid being reprimanded . He inhales and exhales loudly. "Sorry." He turns around and keeps walking.
"Why do you always do that? You talk down to me and then apologize." I grab him by his arm trying to yank him towards me. It has no effect. I almost fall in the process.
A small smile forms on the side of his mouth as he turns toward me. "Don't hurt yourself, fish."
"Hurt? The only hurt thing here is my feelings. I don't even know why I allowed myself to come here. Take me home. Now!"
Levi slowly looks down. A wave of sadness spreads throughout his face.
Good! I want Levi to feel bad, to feel anything. He needs too. Yeah, I was a royal bitch to him in the beginning but it didn't give him the right to torment me. Especially since he is immortal and saved my life.
"I'm sorry," he says looking up at me and taking a step back. "I don't really know how to treat mortals."
"It's easy. The same way you treat your parents."
Duh?!
Levi nods and starts to look around. I turn feeling satisfaction and begin walking to the car when I feel Levi's hand on my shoulder. I hope he isn't thinking he's had some sort of revelation and wants to kiss me. It's definitely not happening! I turn to him with a smile.
Levi is now sniffing the air while looking around. His brows furrow as he looks down the road. I automatically know something is wrong and I gaze in the direction he's staring at but I don't see anything. An angry, huge roar emanates from the direction we are looking at.
"What was that?!" I ask in fear as the hairs on the back of the neck stand up.
We are actually two blocks from the edge of town. The direction we are looking at has nothing but corn fields for miles. It didn't help that the sky is pitch black and I that is the only road that leads home.
There aren't even any stars out.
"What's wrong?" I ask looking back at him. The moment the words escape my lips, I turn my head and see them. Two bright, golden lights. They illuminate the sky a mile down the road. Thunder and lightning roar all around us. I jump!
Levi starts to smell the air again. He turns and faces the other way. This time, we were facing the road into town. His mouth drops. I turn also and see it. Six or so golden, bright lights illuminating the sky from that direction, suddenly appearing. One after the other.
He looks down at me. A serious look on his face. "You see them, don't you?"
"Yes! What's going on? Why are there so many?"
Levi grabs my hand when a huge gush of wind blows in every direction around us. I put my hand up to cover my face as trash starts to fly by us.
The twins that are guarding the front of the club look up and see the golden lights also. They quickly look at one another and disappear inside.
"Listen, we need to get out of here. This is what you mortals call a tornado. This is the reason why it happens. Demons have escaped. Because there are so many seraphim in the sky right now, it'll be classified as a hurricane. We need to move. Now!"
"What?!" What the hell is he talking about? Before I can ask, I am dragged back to the car. Levi opens the door for me and I jump in, putting my seatbelt on.
Scared isn't the word I can use to describe what I am feeling. Tornadoes and hurricane are caused by them?!And what does he mean by demons have escaped?!
In a blink, Levi is right beside me. He presses a button, the engine roars to life and we speed the way out of town, toward the sound of the roar from minutes ago.
"Why are heading towards them?" I ask in a panic. Is he trying to get me killed? I look up and see the lights start to descend rapidly.
As the lights descend, a red lightning bolt shoots up from what looked like the ground in the distance. I hold my breath, thinking it will hit one of the Seraphim but it moves out of the way quickly! My heart leaps into my throat as the thunder roars. What is this about? Is the red bolt trying to shoot them down?
I turn as Levi continues down the road. The Archangels that are behind us start to make their way to the ones in front of us. The sky illuminates around them as they join the others. Thunder erupts around us! It's so loud I have to cover my ears. It sounds like a bunch of trains circling around us. Levi and I look at one another.
"Wh-what is happening?" I yell at him.
Levi swallows hard as he checks all the mirrors. "Shit!" He yells.
Suddenly a bolt of lightning hits next to the right side of the car. It is such a loud, crackling sound that the passenger and back passenger windows blow out! I scream as I bend over and cover my head with my hands. Levi's hand is on the back of my head protectively as glass shatters everywhere!
"Hold on!" Levi yell. He makes a sharp right into the swaying cornfield. I move away from the window as the bushels of corn start to whip inside the car. I yell in pain as one hits me on the arm. It feels like a paper cut. A big one actually.
I looked at Levi pained as I hold onto the now bleeding cut.
Thunder continues to roar loudly but this time it feels like it's right above us. I scream and look at Levi! He never flinches. Instead, his knuckles went white as he holds the steering wheel and floors the gas pedal.
All of a sudden an immense burst of pure, white light illuminates the entire area follow by a sonic boom. I am blinded momentarily from it and a huge headache erupts. It hurt so bad!
"Levi!" I try and yell but my voice is barely audible.
"Close your eyes tightly and bend over!" Levi yells at me. I do as I'm told.
I scream as I hear more booms and know each time the burst of white lights would happen. Even with my eyes closed, I still see the lights as they explode! What is creating these powerful lights?!
The bushels keep dancing around due to the wind! I continue to lean away but no matter how much I lean away from it, I get whipped. Feeling the wetness run down my arm I try with all my might not to cry out.
Suddenly the winds stop. There isn't even the sound of thunder anymore. I slowly look up and around mortified. Levi suddenly slows the car down to a crawl. The only sound I hear is my own ragged breathing.
Is it over?
We both look at one another. I don't notice how hard or loud my breathing is until Levi puts his finger to his lips, signaling me to not make a sound. I instantly still.
We both look up to see if there were any Seraphim in the sky. It's total darkness.
Levi grabs the door handle and cautiously starts to exit the car.
Grabbing his arm, I mouth what are you doing? Levi ignores me, sniffing the air. He then climbs on top of the hood of the car looking away from town.
"Is it over?" I whisper loudly. Levi ignores me again. I open the car door carefully and try to get out. The bushels of corn are in the way so I have a hard time trying to push the door open. After a while, I give up.
Levi jumps back down with a serious look on his face. I extend my hands and he helps me out through the driver side door. We then walk to the back of the car.
"Okay so why did we stop? Shouldn't we have kept going?" I ask looking around noticing the bushels beginning to sway again. My heart instantly. Oh, no! Not again!
A huge bolt of lightning illuminates the sky and a huge roar of thunder sounds! I close my eye and cover my ears. I am beyond terrified now and being to shake uncontrollably! I can't even find the words to tell Levi to get us the hell out of here!
Suddenly a powerful blast of wind hit us from behind! I am knocked into the car hitting my mouth on the bumper. I scream as I cover my mouth and fall to the ground.
As much pain as I was in I run my tongue through all my teeth. I hit the bumper so hard I thought I had lost a tooth. I still had them all. I taste a lot blood though.
I try to stand but the force of the wind is so strong! I sit up and am pushed into the back of the car once again. I close my eyes and try to cover my face with my hands but the winds are so monumental that I can't raise them. Breathing now starts to be a problem!
A bright light suddenly shines behind me. I panic as I realize that something probably found us and I can't see where Levi went.
I feel a hand grab my arm. I try to scream and struggle out of its hold but the powerful winds don't let me. I stop when I see a huge, white wing in front of me.
I didn't feel the wind anymore and I can breathe thanks to whatever is shielding me from the wind. I turn my head and see a blonde Levi. I smile in relief as I hug him.
Looking toward the bushels of corn, I see that they are all still dancing violently. It's then that it hit me! Levi wings are protecting us.
"I hope you're not scared of heights. This is going to get bumpy," Levi says looking down at me. He is still sporting a serious look on his face as he looks into the dark sky.
"Get us out of this and you can have that kiss you've been asking for." I am beginning to panic again. Rolling thunder keep sounding and lightning begins to shoot through the sky.
One after the other.
"Promises, promises, Emery."
I start to look up at him when one hand tightly pulls me against his bare chest, while the other hand holds the side of my head underneath his neck. I hold onto him tightly not knowing what to expect.
Shutting my eyes tightly, I suddenly can't breathe and realized that we are shooting towards the sky. My feet are no longer touching the ground but feel weightless.
I open my eyes and automatically shut them when I see a bolt of red light fly very close to us. So close I feel its heat near my head. Levi begins to swerve left and right.
Thunder and lightning roar all around us. However, it doesn't compare to the noise I've only heard once before. The night my family died. It sounds like a huge train. A train coming right at us. I know then that there is a tornado near us.
This sound is so much louder though. It sounds like four trains are coming toward us from every direction!
I am trying hard to hold onto Levi when I see and feel a red bolt hit near us. Levi suddenly groans loudly and his grip on me loosens. I try and wrap my legs around his hips and my arms around his chest. We are going so fast that even my grip on him loosens.
I open my eyes and look up. The top of his left wings are on fire. He's hurt!
Leviathan tries to tighten his grip around my back but my legs give way and I am only holding onto him by his neck! We both look at one another in panic. The once beautiful blue eyes Levi has are now in a battle with the golden, red, and black hues. He is trying his best to save us but his wound is be severe.
"I won't let go," he moans.
We both desperately try to get my legs wrapped around him.
Another red bolt lights up the dark sky and I see it heading straight for us.
"Leviathan!" I yell!
