Third Person POV
Rising out of bed, a raven-haired male stretches out his arms over his head to alleviate his tight joints and muscles after being in bed all night. Looking to his right, out the narrow window, the sun peeks over the mountaintops off in the distance, waking up the world. Getting up completely, the man fixes himself up before climbing down the steep staircase from his loft and into the kitchenette to throw together a quick breakfast before getting on with his day. Since leaving his Kingdom to start a new life, he's found himself to become acquainted with the low life amongst the civilians. This is the life he has always wanted. He never enjoyed being the center of attention and having to run an entire Kingdom. Being able to go at his leisure and be able to make mistakes without major consequences, it was much more relaxing.
Once he's made himself something to eat and sits down, before he can even take a bite of his omelette, he notices the tea in his cup beginning to tremble. Walking over to the window and staring at the nearby forest, a white horse emerges from the trees with a rider. Two more show up, eventually turning into fifteen more.
Shit. Just what I needed.
He thinks to himself. Although, he was prepared for this day. It's been over a year since he's ran away from his Kingdom and seen (f/n), also known as Falcon. Over the past year, he's used this time to make himself an escape route for when the day would come that his mother's knights would invade his new home, still searching for him. The man throws out his food and tea to dispose evidence of someone being in the house, then, he grabs his "go-bag" filled with basic essentials for his escape. Now, in the small living room, he pushes a chair out of the way, then lifts the rug to pull on a handle in the floor. A hatch lifts up and he jumps down, reaching up to pull the door shut. The rug falls back over the door, concealing it's existence from the invaders. Now, digging through his bag, he pulls out a match box and lights one to light a small torch he left in the secret tunnel.
Levi wasn't a fan of dark, tight spaces but he would have to suffer for a few minutes while getting out of town. When the torch is lit, he blows out the match, tossing it on the ground, and quickly making his way through the long tunnel. It led to the bottom of an abandoned well, inside a different forest about a ten minute walk away. It was the perfect place to escape from. He had no idea where he was going to go or end up but he knew that there was another, much nicer village along the coast, about twenty-five minutes away. Eventually, the knights would be there too, but a town that large, he could easily hide for days, or weeks, before being caught.
When Levi makes it to the end, he pushes the slat of wood used to block the exit out of the way, pulling two knives out of his satchel after. Using the knives, he stabs them in between the cracks of the brick wall, climbing up to the top to get out. Pebbles crumble and fall to the ground below him as he scales the well, able to see the daylight as he reaches closer to the top. Managing to make it, he swings over the edge, stuffing the knives back in his bag before taking off towards the coast. Luckily, he hadn't heard the knights or saw any signs of them. They must still be searching his village.
~~
By the time late morning arrives, the ex-Prince finds himself in the coastal town, Shiganshina. He's never been, but all the locals would come here for trade, so he got directions before. The large village is bustling with townsfolk and carriages. Ships both big and small docking and departing with all kinds of cargo and traveling passengers. If he can get on one of them, he will be set and won't have to worry about his mother's guards finding him anytime soon. Walking around and blending in with the crowd after lifting his hood, he looks for a good place to rest for awhile before making his next move. A bar in the distance catches his eye, legs subconsciously carrying him there. Even though it's not noon yet, people are still shuffling in and out of its doors.
Arriving, Levi pushes through one of the doors, scanning the room full of day drinkers. It reeks of alcohol, but it'll have to do. There's plenty of customers to hide between. He finds himself a table in the far, back corner, heading towards it to sit for a moment or two. By the time he relaxes a bit, a stranger drops themself on the bench opposite to Levi, startling the shit out of him. "No one sits at my table. You must be new?" The stranger's voice rings with curiosity, face hidden beneath their cloak's thick hood. "Sorry, I wasn't aware, I can move." Levi mumbles, already rising from his bench. "Stay as long as you like. I haven't seen you around before. Where did you come from?" The stranger then asks, still curious about this tiny newcomer. "From a faraway Kingdom. I'm trying to get somewhere else though." Levi answers, keeping them short.
"Where are you going?" The hooded person leans against the wall behind them, their chin and mouth becoming visible. "Not sure. Anywhere that seems far enough from here." Levi mirrors their posture, still keeping his guard up, though. "I think I can help you out. Gotta talk to my Captain, though." They point across the bar with their thumb. "You got a ship?" Levi raises a brow, arms crossed over his chest. "I don't, but I work on one. I'm part of the crew. I'll take you over to meet 'em." They rise off the bench, towering over Levi. The man is hesitant, but eventually gets up as well to follow this person to meet their Captain.
"Can you at least tell me your name, first?" Levi asks after getting up. "Hange." They lift their hood up slightly to reveal their face. "Sorry about that, I forget things sometimes." They grin. "What about you?" They ask. Levi thinks for a moment, deciding on whether or not he should reveal his true identity to this stranger. "Hawk." He decides to say at the last second. Hange pauses, slowly turning around to look down at the raven. "Hawk?" They ask to confirm. Levi keeps silent. He hates repeating himself. "That's funny, my boss is also named after a bird." They chuckle, continuing on.
Hange leads Levi to the other side of the bar and through a dark purple curtain, into a separated room full of only pirates. Levi had never seen such a sight, trying to take it all in at once. "So, where's this Captain of yours?" Levi asks, following with a bit of distance behind the tall brunette. "Right this way, Hawk." Hange grins, stretching their arms out in front of them. Levi continues to stay quiet, keeping an eye on everyone he passes. Then, they make it to a booth at the end of the separated room. There, sits three people. One with light brown hair, and hazel eyes. The second with dirty-blonde hair and green eyes. The last person is hidden under the hood of their cloak, unlike the other two at the booth, so it is hard telling what they look like.
"Hey, fellas! I've brought us a friend who needs help getting far away." Hange waves in the direction of Levi, showing him off. "Who's this? The hazel-eyed guy asks with little bit of hesitance. "His name is Hawk. Can we help him out?" Hange replies, turning to face who seemed to be their "boss." The person sighs from beneath their hood, removing their feet from the edge of the table to sit up straight. "Sure. Anything for a friend, right?" The statement flies right over Hange's head but Levi caught it, his eyes slightly widening. Before he could even guess, their face is revealed, leaving Levi shocked.
"Falcon?" The name slips past his pale pink lips, absolutely speechless. He is completely frozen looking up/down/straight at the one who helped him escape his Kingdom's guards over a year ago. It's been so long, yet, he never thought he was going to see her again. "Are you just going to stand there and gawk, Hawk?" Falcon hums with a raised eyebrow, placing her hands on her belted hips. "That rhymes." Hange quietly chuckles to themself, amused. "Sorry," Levi shakes his head, breaking the self-induced trance. "I'm just surprised to see you again." He explains, feeling embarrassed. "And I thought you stopped using that stupid nickname?" Falcon smirks, making him feel even more embarrassed. "That's not his name?" Hange pipes in, confused. "No, he's an ex-Prince. I helped him get out of trouble back then." Falcon gives an explanation to her crew. "Then, what is your name?" The guy with hazel eyes asks. "Levi. But you have to keep my identity hidden or else the guards will find me. That's why I'm running away... again."
"Well, since you two already know each other, it shouldn't take that much convincing to help him then, right?" Hange asks Falcon for confirmation. "I don't see why we can't." She shrugs her shoulders, exiting the booth. "I'm always up for an adventure." She smiles at the former friend, earning a sigh of relief from him. "Thanks, again." He mumbles so only she can hear it. "No problem. Now, come one, let's get out of here before we run into trouble." She waves everyone to follow. "Trouble?" Levi makes a confused face as they head for the exit. "Let's just say I borrowed some things and haven't returned them." The (tall/short) girl explains, leading the crew out. "I shouldn't have asked." Levi mutters, remembering her career.
"Welcome to The Red Swan." Falcon shows off her large ship to Levi as they approach the dock. "That's your ship?" Levi looks up at the massive boat in awe. "How the hell did you afford such a thing?" He looks over her hooded face. "What did I say back in the bar? I'm borrowing it." She flashes him a smile which makes him roll his eyes. He should have known. One by one, they each climb the board onto deck, a gentle breeze blowing by when they reach the top. "Oh, I should introduce the whole crew now that we're on board." Falcon says as she pulls the slat of wood they just crossed back up. Levi stands in place, scanning the small crowd. "You met Hange, they're the brains and know all about the globe and the sea. We use them for directions. They're also a doctor. This is Miche. He has a strangely good sense of smell, he can smell out storms headed our way. He also manages the sails and anchor. Moblit is our right-hand man. He has the most chores on deck. Sails, maintenance, meals, and assisting Hange, and I. He also has a secret crush on Hange." Falcon whispers the end to Levi. "Then, we got Erwin over here." She waves over the tall blonde with blue eyes. The man climbs down the short ladder from the quarter deck, approaching to greet their new guest. "He steers the ship." Is all she has to say about him. "And I load the ship with supplies." Erwin feels the need to make himself feel more useful. "Oh yeah, that too." Falcon adds.
Levi nods at everyone, memorizing all their names. "Guys, this is Levi, the runaway Prince of Sina." Falcon introduces the short raven to her crew after. Miche is quiet, scanning him. Moblit and Erwin grin, shaking his hand. "Sorry I was hesitant earlier. We just don't get newcomers." Moblit apologizes for his slightly cold first impression. "No worries." Levi disregards it, not bothered by it. He would have been the same way too. It's been hard trusting people this past year and a half. He never knows if someone will turn him into the guards. "So, how can we help?" Erwin asks Falcon, crossing his arms. "Levi is being hunted down again by the knights of his old Kingdom. His request was to take him far away. Got any ideas on where we can go?" Falcon shifts her gaze to Hange. "Hmm... Marley is pretty far. About a four night trip. If the guards knew he was there, they wouldn't be able to cross the sea and get him. The Marleyans would mistake it for an invasion on their country and we would accidentally start a war." Hange concludes. "That's a good point. They wouldn't be able to cross the sea and enter. However, it's pretty dangerous there." Falcon ponders with this information, debating on whether they should go.
"What? Are you scared of a little danger?" Levi lifts a brow, teasing Falcon. "Of course not. I was just about to say it's the perfect place to go to. Getting in won't be difficult for us, only the Queen's knights." Falcon smirks back at him. "All right, let's set a course for Marley." Falcon decides. Everyone scatters across the deck, getting ready to depart the dock. "Erwin, did you get that box of food on board?" Falcon asks before he's too far. "It's in the storage room, Captain." He answers, returning to the wheel. "Perfect." She smiles, turning around to face Levi. "Can't believe you're a Captain. What else have you accomplished since I last saw you?" Levi's cloak blows with the wind as they depart the docks and set sail. "Well, not much has changed since then. I got this ship after robbing the original owner because I heard they had precious jewels. Turns out it was a lie, but hey, free ship." She shrugs with a grin. "Oh, and your horse." Falcon suddenly remembers. "I got him a stall to stay at when I'm out at sea. A girl takes care of him... although, I can't remember her name right now. She's a short blondie. He's in good hands." She pats his shoulder, walking past him to look overboard.
Levi follows behind, leaning against the railing, and down at the ocean below. "Thanks for helping me out, again. I know I said it earlier, but I'm really appreciative." Levi says quietly, but loud enough to hear over the waves. Falcon lifts her head to meet Levi's gaze, smiling at him. "Hey, it's good to see you again. Of course I would help you out." She moves a bit closer to him. "So... Marley?" Levi hums, trying to recall any information he knows about it from his studies. "It's a divided nation, unlike Paradis. They have a feud with the Eldians, I guess. I never read up on it." Falcon turns around to lean her back against the railing. "We'll be fine though. We're not Eldians so we can get into Marley just fine." Levi nods at her statement, remembering reading something about the Marleyan history a few years ago. "I hope so. I don't care where I'm at, I just don't want to be behind those damned walls again." The short man sighs. "I get it. You don't have a normal life. Or, had, I should say." Falcon nods. "Whatever is there, I'll start my life again." Levi shrugs, not fazed. "And we'll make sure of that." The girl smiles at him.
~~
Night falls over the crisp blue ocean, nothing in sight as far as the eye can see. The ocean is much calmer out here than compared to the shore, making it a much more relaxing experience than before. Hange stands next to Erwin at the wheel, holding a map and pointing different directions where things would be if they go a certain way. Moblit climbs up through the hatch from the hold with dinner. It's no feast compared to the food Levi would get in the castle, but it'll do. Moblit calls everyone down to the deck and passes out a slice of bread along with some cheese. It wasn't going to make them full, but it was better than starving. Moblit then goes up to the quarter deck and gives Erwin his food as well since he's steering and can't take a break. When the light brunette returns and sits with the others, he decides to break the silence. "So... you were the Prince of Sina?" He looks over at Levi with curiosity. Levi turns to face him, nodding slightly. "Yeah. I just didn't want the responsibility of maintaining so many people and a community. I wasn't meant for the job." He replies honestly. Moblit nods, never able to fully grasp the reality of Royalty. "That sounds like a lot of hard work." He comments. "And a job that isn't cut out for everyone." Miche agrees. He was the odd one out in his family too. They had hoped he would be a farmer along with them, but he was more into blacksmith work. Now, here he is, working on a ship full of pirates and thieves.
"I guess so." Levi quietly sighs, finishing his dinner. "Would you like us to show you to the sleeping quarters?" Moblit offers as he stands up from sitting on a crate. Before Levi can accept, Falcon intervenes. "No need, Moblit. He can stay in the Captain's quarters." She dismisses. "Ooo, sleepover?" Hange teases, smirking at the two. "No, Hange. I know you're always horny for love stories but he is Royal blood and our guest, he can take my room for the time being." Falcon rolls her eyes, chuckling, nonetheless. "Oh, all right." Hange doesn't buy it one bit, but let's it go. "Are you sure? I don't mind sleeping on a hammock downstairs." Levi looks up/down/straight at the woman. "I'm sure of it." She nods, getting up. "Come on, I'll go show you." She waves him on, walking towards the other end of the ship. Levi follows behind her, feeling bad for making her give up her room. When she opens the door, it reveals a cozy little room with a bed and desk. "Is it good enough for a Prince?" She asks, placing her hands on her hips. "It'll do." Levi nods, not really caring either way. "You didn't have to do that, though." He adds. "Don't worry about it, I insist." She flashes him a smile. He can't say no to it. She may be a thief but she does have a kind heart. "Fine."
~~
Miche, Moblit, and Erwin had retired for the night in their hammocks under the main deck. Hange took over the night shift steering, always looking forward to seeing what lies beyond the horizon as they steered the ship to their destination. Levi sat in Falcon's bed, unable to fall asleep, not able to tell what time it was, but it was definitely late. He wonders if Falcon is feeling the same way since she's sleeping in an uncomfortable hammock. He still feels super guilty for staying in her room. Deciding to get up, he goes out to the main deck, carefully shutting the door behind him. Glancing up at Hange, he waves, before going to the other end of the ship to sit for awhile. However, before he even gets there, he spots Falcon looking out beyond the sea. He continues walking over there, approaching her right side, laying his arms on the railing and leaning into them. "Couldn't sleep either?" He asks, looking towards the dark horizon. "I haven't even gone to bed yet." The (hair color) haired woman hums in response, her eyes focusing on the same spot as well. "Is that bed uncomfortable?" She asks, looking up at the moon above them. "No, I'm just full of guilt for taking your bed. Plus, the ship is rocky." Levi trails his eyes up as well. "It takes getting used to." Falcon remarks.
"Can I ask you something?" Levi mumbles, not looking over. "Always." Falcon replies, waiting. "Why did you kiss me?" His voice is soft and quiet, full of questions. Falcon takes a moment before answering. "I wasn't lying when I said you were cute. So, why wouldn't I?" She glances towards him. Levi purses his lips momentarily, replaying the memory. "I guess I was just surprised." He shrugs. "Never been kissed before?" Falcon looks over at him now, seeing him shake his head "no." The answer makes her grin a little. "Thanks for letting me be your first then." She whispers to him. Levi has much more to say, but he decides to bite his tongue back.
Silence falls between the two as they stare up at the full moon, glowing down on them and the ocean. Her reflected rays light up the night just enough to see a distance, almost lighting up a path for them. Whenever Falcon couldn't sleep, she would be out here with Hange, watching the moon and stars if it wasn't storming. It was something she never took for granted. "Do you want to stargaze?" She decides to break the silence after a few minutes. A cool breeze tickles their faces, sending wisps of hair to dance in front of them. "Of course." The man nods, breaking his gaze from the moon to look at her. A grin spreads across Falcon's face as she meets his eyes, sitting down before laying on the wooden floor. Levi does the same, stretching his arms to rest under his head for support. Falcon's hands rest on her abdomen, eyes scanning across the partly cloudy sky for any stars. "There's one." Levi points at a star, glowing brightly. Falcon turns her head and smiles some more, always happy to see a star. "And another." She notices a smaller star come into view next to it.
The two enjoy the calmness of the night, not realizing just how tired it was making them. The sound of the sea, the gentleness of the waves, the breeze blowing past their hair. Eventually, they fall asleep next to each other, under the moon's silvery glow. Hange watches over them with a smile, knowing for sure that they have a thing for each other, but they would keep that to themself. As the night goes on, Hange also falls asleep at the wheel, not remembering anything before their eyes fell shut.
~~
A rope is tossed over the left side of the ship, a grappling hook on the end of it. It gets stuck on the interior side of the railing, able to climb. A cloaked stranger climbs up the rope, quietly jumping overboard. Looking down at their own, smaller ship, they wave up the others. One, two, three people join the first, stalking the ship. The tallest bandit notices two forms at the front of the ship, pointing them out to their gang. Two sneak around the ship to keep an eye out while the tallest and one other creep up behind the sleeping figures. Falcon slightly rolls over, hearing a creak in the floorboards. The startling noise is enough to wake her up, still confused about her surroundings. As she slowly sits up, an arrow goes flying past her face, sticking into the railing in front of her. Now, fully awake, her large (color) eyes turn to face the direction the arrow came from. "LEVI!" She shouts, jumping to her feet and grabbing a knife from her holster. The two bandits raise their crossbows again, shooting more arrows at them. Levi woke up and rolls out of the way before standing, adrenaline taking over his conscious.
It's too dark to make out faces, plus, they're covered by the cloaks they wear. They could be other pirates trying to rob them. Falcon ducks under an arrow, doing a forward roll and kicking the crossbow out of the tallest bandit's arms, holding the knife up at him. Levi was lucky enough to have one on him as well, holding it in his mouth as he goes after the other bandit. The racket they were causing woke up the rest of the crew. They came flying up the ladder, shocked to see that they were under attack. Miche holds up a gun, pointing it towards the one after Levi. Before he pulls the trigger, a bullet knocks it out of his hands from behind. Turning around, he spots two others on the quarter deck. One of them steering the ship while the other holds a gun pointed at him. Hange makes eye contact with Miche, their brown eyes wide as they're tied to part of the railing, unable to get out.
"Miche!" Moblit shouts from the hatch, tossing him another gun and one for Erwin. "Erwin, help Levi and Falcon. Moblit and I will get Hange." Miche orders. Erwin nods, running off towards the front of the ship. The tall dirty-blonde dodges another bullet, aiming and firing at the attacker, hitting their right shoulder. They groan in pain, dropping the weapon as he climbs up to the deck, kicking the gun away. Moblit goes up the other side, shooting at the wheel, causing the other to let go in fear of getting hit. They draw out a knife, running towards Moblit. The man stands still, holding the gun straight in front of him, firing.
Erwin runs towards Falcon and Levi, behind their attackers. One notices his presence, turning around, tossing a gun to their partner before firing an arrow at the tall blonde. Erwin dives and rolls, shooting at the cloaked figure but they're able to dodge all his attacks. "Bertholdt, take care of this blonde bitch while I get those brats!" The figure spits, retreating to go after Falcon and Levi. Erwin's eyes meet the tallest bandit, both of their guns aiming at each other.
The one figure, which seems to be the boss, drops their crossbow to take out their other handgun, pointing directly at the woman and the man. Falcon swallows a lump in her throat, realizing that only her knife won't be much going against the bandit. Levi, positioned next to her, feels the same way, almost feeling defenseless, but knowing Falcon, they'll get out of this mess. "Levi... get behind the foremast while I distract him." Falcon whispers directions, eyes never leaving the bandit's dark figure. Levi doesn't argue, nodding instead. In these situations, he knew it was best to listen to her orders. Falcon jumps at the bandit, able to tackle them to the ground, while Levi runs behind the foremast. Falcon struggles to pin the bandit down, holding out her knife, pushing towards their neck. Before she can even get close, she gets thrown off, rolling a few feet away, crashing into a crate. Levi is able to find Miche's gun, grabbing it and sprinting back towards the bandit, taking aim. Gun in right hand with the knife still in the left, crossed over his right arm, ready to strike, however the bandit is swifter than him, lunging forward, and kicking both weapons out of his hands.
Grabbing Levi's knife in their left hand, they point both at Levi, about to fire. At this point, Falcon's recovered from the crash, getting up and charging for the bandit before pulling the trigger. Getting in between them, she slaps their right hand, gun flying out of it. The bandit's arm hits their cloak, causing it to fall off their head and reveal their identity. Falcon's eyes widen as she falls back to the ground from the sudden momentum, unable to catch herself. Levi's eyes are on Falcon the whole time, the world going by in slow-motion until she hits the ground and doesn't get back up. Levi snaps his head back towards the bandit, his steel eyes filled with rage. "KENNY!!!"
The raven jumps at his uncle, grabbing the gun off the floor and holding it to his chest. Kenny growls and kicks Levi off, wrestling him to the ground instead. Levi kicks and thrashes, ultimately getting him off so he can attack again. Once on their feet, Levi twists, and crouches at the same time, swiping his leg across to knock Kenny's out from under him. When Kenny is on the ground and scrambling to get back up, Levi swings his arms down, hitting Kenny in the head with the magazine of his gun. Kenny falls back to the ground, holding his head in pain from the strike. "You son of a bitch!" He curses, standing up to throw a punch at him. Levi quickly aims and shoots at his hand, causing him to cry out in more pain. Levi drops the gun and lifts the man up by the collar of his cloak. "Don't talk about my mother like that." Levi mutters before throwing him overboard.
Quickly scanning the deck, Levi sees that the others were able to take down the rest of Kenny's gang. Moblit and Miche drag over two from the quarter deck, pulling back their hoods to reveal their identity. Erwin had tied up a tall brunette with green eyes while Moblit and Miche each had blondes. One male and the other, a short female. Turning back to face Falcon, she still hasn't gotten up. That's when Levi notices the blood underneath her. "(F/n)!" He gasps, rushing towards her, sliding on his knees when close enough. "Shit, what happened?!" He asks with wide eyes, gently pushing her onto her back. Her left arm falls back, revealing his knife stuck deep in her abdomen, blood surrounding and staining her shirt. "Oh my God..." He whispers in shock. Had he known sooner, it wouldn't have gotten this bad. "Hange!" Levi shouts over his shoulder, scooting over to raise and lay her head on his lap. "Hange!" He desperately shouts again.
When they do finally get over to them, (f/n)'s eyes start to open, coming-to. "(F/n)! Can you hear me?" He asks frantically, looking down at her. "Levi...?" She whispers, barely audible, eyes adjusting. "I'm here, Hange is too. They're going to help." He explains, cupping her cheeks. The girl nods a little, shutting her eyes again. "It hurts..." She mouths, hand weakly squeezing in a fist. "Levi, can you carry her back to her bed?" Hange looks up at the male. "Of course." He nods, looking into their brown eyes.
~~
It seemed like hours had gone by since Levi last saw (f/n). As soon as he laid her on the bed, Hange practically kicked him out and shut the door. He hasn't been able sit still since. He worries for her health and whether she'll even make it after a wound like that. He knows she's tough but how much is too much for her? Moblit watches the poor guy from the front of the ship, mopping up the stained wood. He knows the feeling of worrying about someone you care for. Although, his efforts weren't enough to calm Levi down.
As Levi is about to pace in front of her door again, it opens, almost hitting him. "Is she okay?" He immediately asks once spotting Hange on the other side. "She's okay-" He pushes past the tall brunette before they could finish talking. "(F/n)?" He asks, stopping in his tracks. The girl, laying in bed, turns her head slowly to face him after looking out the window at the rising sun. "I guess I do have one weakness." She smiles softly when she meets his gaze. "Shut up, idiot." Levi shakes his head as he walks towards her. Cupping her cheeks, he presses his lips against hers, the two melting into each other.

I'm so glad I finished writing this one. It took so long, I'm so sorry, but I wanted it to be good, and for that to happen it had to be long! (It took 10 days sheeeeesh)
I really enjoyed this story though, kinda obsessed with the plot tbh 😳
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did! Until the next chapter!
