Third Person POV

Riding back to the barracks from the infirmary, Hange held onto (son's name) tightly, feeling nothing but sorrow for the poor kid. Military Police was sent to their house to take care of (f/n)'s corpse and file a report for the attack on their family. No one had seen Levi after he left the house and got ambushed by the traitors. Hange felt it was appropriate to not tell (son's name) what had happened to his father after witnessing the trauma of losing his mother in front of him. The best thing they could do for now was watch out for him until they were able to find him a stable home with a new family.

When they arrived, Moblit took (son's name) from Hange, taking him inside to eat and rest after the long day's events. The weather had become bad soon after arriving but Hange didn't mind the drizzle, taking their horse back to the stables to think in silence for a bit. Hange was hesitant on giving (son's name) a new home. They would feel like that would be abandoning him after the trauma, leaving him to deal with it living in a stranger's home. Not to mention, those three could still be out there and want (son's name) as well. It was a hard decision but Hange thought the best thing to do for now until there were no more threats, would be to keep him around to protect.

Now to convince Erwin.

The little boy had eaten and fallen asleep in a spare bedroom next to the boy's dormitory, exhausted after today. Hange checked in on him after coming inside, the saddest smile they had ever had graced their lips, trying their best to stay strong for this innocent child whose whole life had been stolen by selfish people. He never deserved this. It wasn't his fault for who his parents are. He had no choice. Why did he have to be targeted though? What role does a child hold in all of this?

As Hange continued to gaze at the boy, they hardly noticed the tears pooling their deep-hued eyes. It wasn't until the raven boy rolled over in his bed, facing Hange, when they felt the stream of tears parting ways from their glossy, red eyes. He was the embodiment of his father with those striking (eye color) irises that belonged to his mother. He was the product of Hange's two best friends. The only ones who they felt closest to, who understood them. Now, here he is, left in the hands of the Scouts, counting on them to protect his life from those monsters. "I'll guard him with my life..." Hange whispers, looking down upon the young boy, moving his hair out of his face. "It's the least I can do for you." A gentle but sad smile tugged on the corner of their lips. "I promise."

When Hange eventually left his room, they were stopped by the Commander, who had been there when they found him alone. "Hange," He spoke, glancing inside the room before the Squad Leader shut the door behind them. "H-Hey, Commander." The Titan lover mumbles, carefully removing their hand from the door handle. "He's asleep now, Moblit got him dinner earlier." They mention, barely able to look the Commander in the eye. The tall blonde nods, placing his hand on the brunette's shoulder. "Let's go to my office and finish talking." He offers, nodding his head towards the hallway. Hange gave in, following him back.

The two sat down, sitting in silence for a moment before Erwin spoke up again. "It's hard, I know. I know how close you were with the both of them. The whole family." The statement almost tore Hange to thinner shreds, only sniffling in response. "It's been a hard day for him as well and we need to be there for him. It's what (f/n) would have wanted. As for Levi, he wouldn't want him in this mess with us." Hange nods softly, their puffy eyes glued to the wooden floor. "We need to make a decision on what we will do with him." Was the last thing the Commander said, sighing at the end. "W-We have to keep him." Hange eventually broke the silence, their throat tight from the heartache. "We can't... we can't give him up and expect him to live with strangers like nothing happened." Erwin clasps his hands together, leaning his lips into them, contemplating Hange's opinion. "What if they want him too? Then what? W-We fail... we fail (f-f/n) and Levi..." The names were hard to get out without feeling more sadness for their lost comrades. They were all family.

Erwin felt compelled, understanding Hange's point of view and reasons. Either decision is difficult to come to. He didn't need to be in the center of the storm but how would they know if he was safe? "I made a promise... to protect him." Hange whispers in one final attempt, sniffling once more. "H-He can't be alone." Erwin's pursed lips finally separate as he leans back in his chair, making a final decision on what plan they will take. "You're right." He says quietly, looking at his desk. "The safest place for him is under our supervision. We need to be the ones protecting his life. He's our family."

A young man whizzed past empty streets, soaring through the cool air on ODM gear. The sun shone on his exposed arms and face, the perfect temperature to keep warm during the growing autumn season. Launching his hooks into a tall building, he reaches the top, landing on its roof, looking out over the city. While gazing at his home, someone else lands behind him, approaching until they stood next to the man. "Are you ready to go?" The voice belonging to the other spoke. "I think so. I just never thought I would see the day." The raven male responds, finally looking to his right to meet the other. "We should get going then." Hange holds a delicate smile, turning around to leave with him. (Son's name) follows behind them, the two shooting their hooks after jumping off the roof.

During the past 15 years, humanity had found a way to finally end the war that had been fought for centuries. No one thought they would succeed and reach the end. Now, they were able to cultivate outside of the walls and live a normal life that was not in fear. They had discovered the controversial sea that had been mentioned in several books no one believed in and it was the most beautiful thing in this world. As hundreds of soldiers were about to go out to sea and discover other parts of this world, another discovery had been made. (Son's name) thought he was going out to sea with his comrades but there was something else Hange had in mind.

Arriving at the newly constructed docks, Hange walked the young man across the boards until they reached one of the boats. "Is this the one we're taking?" The raven asks, looking up at the large ship. "Actually... no. There's something else before we leave." The brunette waves up at the ship, signaling something. (Son's name) stands there confused, watching as two people descend the ramp, meeting them on the dock. Connie approaches the duo, gesturing to the stranger beside him. "Hange, who is this?" The raven mumbles, glancing over at them. They stay quiet, watching and waiting instead. "(Son's name...?" The stranger next to Connie whispers in disbelief, removing his hood. The other male blinks, his (eye color) eyes wide in confusion. Until... it clicked. "...Dad?"
