~King Caspian~
"What do you think it does?" She could see the wonder dancing in his eyes like the leaves on a windy morning. The odd shaped crystal shimmered brightly, displaying an array of colors, drawing any curious soul to it like a moth to a flame.
Peter and Edmund quietly strode around the strange room, observing the magical objects put on display all around them.
"According to this..." Reina's attention was turned to Lucy, who came walking toward them with a rather large book held in hand. She felt that something was wrong, like she should keep her eye on Caspian. And she did. Boy, was that a mistake. "It enduces your deepest desires—"
"Captain, NO!" She ran towards him just as his hand reached for the crystal. When his finger touched its light spectrum, his entire body stiffled. Then his widened obsidian eyes flashed blue and a powerful blast sent Reina flying backwards and crashing to the floor.
"Captain?" Reepicheep was the first one on the unconscious man's side, trying to shake him back to life. The others followed, praying that their leader hadn't fallen for good. "Captain, wake up!"
"Caspian!" Lucy tapped his cheeks, checking for a pulse and sighed in relief when she found it. But she was still in panic mode as the rest of them. "Wake up!"
Reina groaned in pain as she slowly propped herself up on her elbows, watching the others tend to Caspian. She noticed someone's boots by her side before that person knelt down beside her and a hand wrapped itself around her forearm to help her up, "Reina, are you alright?"
It was Edmund, she realized. But she couldn't bring herself to look away from the Captain, who laid lifeless on the ground and Lucy's tearful gaze fixated on him. Of all the horrors she's seen here, this had to be the scariest.
"Caspian, please wake up!" Lucy's eyes showed the fear Reina felt inside her heart. She glanced at everyone, breathing in and out and yelled, "Don't just stand there! How do we fix this?!"
"I'll look into it." said the rather large mouse before he ran over to the book Lucy had been holding moments ago. Edmund helped Reina to her feet and dusted off the dirt on her back. He didn't question her or even utter a word when she limped to Caspian and dropped on her knees.
"Wake up, Captain." she softly said while putting her hand on his forehead to check his temperature. Her heart was racing as she looked for any signs of injuries, but found none. His pulse was strong, which was good, meaning that they don't have to deal with any physical problems. "Captain."
He didn't wake up. Reina felt her throat clog at the sight. She wasn't used to seeing him so out of it. He's usually full of sunshine and mischief, the one who made everyone smile. It wasn't like him to be this quiet. And that scared her.
"Cass." she called him out, brushing the stands of hair away from his face, wishing to see his obsidian eyes on her again. Lucy glanced at her, knowing that she too was worried because she rarely called him by his name. She wiped the tears away from her eyes, but only for more to take their place. "Caspian, c'mon, don't do this to us."
Reina wasn't sure what to do in this situation. Nor was she aware that her voice jolted the Captain's dreams to life.
"Caspian..."
Her voice was soft. Alluring, as usual. He followed it as it lead him into the light. Squinting his eyes, he blinked to take a look at his location. And boy, was he surprised.
How did he end up in a cabin at the beach?
"Caspian..." her voice sang out to him once more from behind. He quickly turned around, nearly losing his breath as her stunning view came to sight.
His heart raced upon seeing her silvery eyes as bright as the moon and her hair as dark as the night. With skin so fair, it nearly glowed. But that wasn't what enchanted him.
She was wearing nothing but his shirt that reached her thighs, hiding what was underneath and with his crown sitting at the top of her head. Her smile radiated pure joy, making him speechless.
His mind instantly recognized her and he didn't hesitate to bring her into his arms. His head dipped into the crook of her nose to inhale her sweet scent, calling out his primal instincts. This all felt so surreal, he couldn't believe they had become so intimate.
"My Queen." he softly moaned with a smile when her hands trailed up to rest on his broad shoulders. Placing a kiss on her delicate neck, he looks into her eyes, "Reina..."
"We should leave soon, my King." She said while tilting her head, making him want to frown. No, he didn't want to leave. He didn't want this to end.
"I think I'm comfortable right where I am." Caspian responded with a smirk before suddenly caging her to the nearest wall and himself. His lips descended on hers, tasting the strawberries on her lips and proceeded down to her neck. "With you."
"Caspian..." Reina breathes out, her fingers clutching his skin. An unexpected moan escaped her when her lover's mouth sucked on the sensitive part of her neck. On instinct, she pressed her chest against his, allowing him to feel her and imagine what was under his clothing.
He asked her, "Should I continue to pleasure you, my Queen?"
But before she could respond, her body began to disappear. His fingers no longer felt her skin and she gasped in pure terror, "Caspian—"
"Reina!" he yelled and she was gone.
Reina shot out of her seat, which was a large box, when Caspian's choked breath echoed the room. He sprang up from his laid down position on his hammock, inhaling heavily as his body trembled in shock.
"Hey, hey!" She was instantly by his side, her hands pushing him back down, coaxing him to calm down, "Relax, Captain. Lay back."
His wide eyes looked horrified, mouth slightly parted as short breaths left and entered his lungs. Whatever it is that spooked him left a mark on his mind. His eyes found hers when she felt her hand cupping his face and she calmly told him,"You're OK."
Blinking a few times, he looked away upon recalling the vague memories. It was all a dream, it wasn't real. Reina wasn't his queen, she wasn't his lover. She was only the First Mate of The Dawn Treader. That was the reality of it.
But how did he end up on his ship when moments ago, he was in a library? He remembered seeing a crystal, touching it, then everything went black. He got out of his hammock, which was a bad idea. Reina caught him and he leaned on her to steady himself when dark spots clouded his vision. She said, "Take it easy, Captain."
A few moments passed before he regain his composure and he could walk well on his own. He turned to her to ask, "What happened?"
"You were stuck in your own dreams. We had to get you out." she explained while looking away from him. Then he realized why; he was shirtless.
He tried not to blush at his predicament and cleared his throat. "How long was I out?"
"Three days." was her immediate response, but something felt off about her voice. Like she was hiding something that he needed to know. For as long as he can remember, Reina refrained from keeping things from him, her Captain, her leader. She preferred to be completely honest because it showed that she trusts him.
So what was she hiding from him?
"Did something happen?" he asked, walking closer to her, noticing the damp cloth she held in her hands. His hands enclosed hers as his breath fanned her flushed face. "Reina."
As the door was right behind her, one of her hands reached for the handle and twisted it, "I'll get you some water, Captain."
"No." He pushed the door, closing it shut and giving her no room to escape. She refused to look at him, his eyes were too dark, too scrutinizing to bare. There was no doubt that he could see how embarrassed she is because of his half nakedness.
"Tell me what's wrong." he gently demanded her, his warm hand squeezing the one that still held the cloth. "That's an order."
How was she supposed to say it? How was she supposed to tell him that she figured it out? That his secret was no longer kept hidden?
He was lucky that the crew wasn't there to hear him during the night. She and Lucy were the ones who tended to him. Lucy took care of him during the day and Reina during the night. But his secret was spilled one night, when he began shifting about in his sleep, uttering something that made her heart race faster than the day she was being hunted down by wolves.
"You kept saying my name." Caspian's eyes widened in horror, which she didn't see. He was mortified by what she was revealing to him, "You called me... You called your Queen."
When he didn't respond, she explained, "The book said one who touches the crystal will dream about what they desire the most."
Oh, he remembers that part. This changes everything between them. This means that Reina will no longer look at him the same way as she used to. This means that things were no longer easy between then.
He sighed, closing his eyes in shame and shook his head, "This isn't how you were supposed to find out."
Find out what? That your Captain had a massive crush on you? Is there an easy way of finding that out? Hell, no!
Caspian wasn't just her leader, he was her friend. A good friend. He was easy to talk to, easy to laugh with. Besides the fact that they were close, Caspian accepted her, he needed her on his ship. There wasn't supposed to be romantic feelings involved. At least, not from him. She could deal with admiring him from afar, but he wasn't supposed to... She wasn't his ideal match.
"I don't think I wanted to find out." she bluntly told him before pushing him away to walk toward the window. Everything wasn't the same anymore. She turned to look at him, "Caspian, I'm your first mate. I can't be something more to you."
"That's for me to decide." he stated with a firm tone, his aura growing dark. He understood why she said that. She wasn't from this world, who would accept her a their Queen? Well, that didn't matter to him.
"You could have anyone you want." she whispered, running her hand through her long hair and faced away from him, not wanting to say it to his face. "Anyone that isn't your first mate."
"Reina." she heard him, his footsteps coming closer until she felt his warmth behind her. "Reina, look at me."
She sighed, her shoulders dropping as she did as she was told. He cupped her face, his thumbs gently grazing her cheeks. His eyes held the love that he felt for her and it was almost too much to bare for her. "Not only am I the captain of this ship, I am also King of Narnia. I can have anyone I could possibly choose."
The sincerity in his voice, the kindness, the emotion, he meant all of it. He wanted her to know this. "And I choose you."
Her heart fluttered at his words, overflowing her stomach with butterflies. She never thought she would hear those words coming from someone as perfect as him. It was unreal, something that was taken out of a fairytale.
His hands left her face, but neither moved from their position. Their close proximity allowed them to feel unbearably hot. Caspian's gaze fell on her parted lips, tempting him to touch them with his, feel what they're like.
He slowly leaned in, hoping that she didn't turn away from him. His hands found her waist, pulling her body towards his. Even the fantasy that he just woke up from couldn't compare how she felt against him. Now he knew that it wasn't a dream this time.
His nose touched hers and her eyes fluttered shut as she waited for what came next. And what came next was Peter's loud voice echoing the hallway outside the room, "Reina, we have a problem up here!"
Her gasp came unexpected just as her hands gripped his arms and his grip tightened on her waist. Reina glanced down at his chest, biting her lip before clearing her throat, "You should rest, Captain."
Caspian made a mental note to kick Peter's soon to be sorry arse in a duel later on for ruining their moment.
Reina stepped back and went passed him to go see what was going on, but that didn't happen because the Captain's hands spin her back towards him. He pulled her flush on his body and before she could process what he was trying to do, his hand went up to her neck, tilting her head up as his lips descended on hers.
Not only did she feel her heart stop when her gasp was left in his mouth, but her eyes closed on instinct and she melted into the kiss.
Caspian stopped himself when Peter called her out again and smirked at her shocked expression. Placing one last chaste kiss on her lips, he added, "Think about what I've said."
