Chapter 21
*Anusha Pov*
In the evening after fining the work, I got ready and took the elevator, but stilled when he entered it during the time it stopped near his floor.
He kept on looking at the watch not saying a single word while I just stared at the doors. Finally, when they were about to open, he leaned over me whispering, "You are looking beautiful with the happiness in your eyes. I am happy for the events because of which you are feeling happy whatever they are."
"This is because of my new boyfriend." I mumbled and took a step forward, but he held my hand slightly without forcing.
"I know you are lying, Sha. But even that lie is hurting. I deserve that, right?" asking that he released my hand and walked off in a hurry while I frowned at his back.
I shrugged off the moment and concentrated on why am I so happy. Yeah, I am finally back with my parents and Dad is also talking to me right now even though using one word.
"What?" I asked coughing over the food I just placed in my mouth.
"Yes! He is having some stomach pain and had to leave his date behind the restaurant." Mom continued.
Bhai is still going to meet other women? Is that why Kirthi hung up when I talked about Bhai not saying much? No! I can't let her feel any hurt.
"Mom! Bhai likes someone and she is amazing." I said looking at her.
"That nurse?" Dad asked and I stared at them in shock.
"We already know about her and your brother even broke up with her when we asked him to." Mom explained.
"What?" I asked not believing their words.
"Yes! It's been more than ten days. He knows how to listen to his parents and realized the parents wishes and the work they achieved is more important than some affair." Dad replied staring at me.
"I will not say what I did was wrong, Dad." I stated making him frown.
"Then where is your decision now?" he asked back, ignoring Mom's throat clearing.
"It just went bad. Even you must have took many wrong decisions, right? At that time it was not wrong, but eventually it became wrong. And what Bhai is doing is also wrong." Saying that I stood up before walking out of the house after assuring Mom I will call her.
How can Bhai, do this to Kirthi? I asked myself for the hundredth time and reached the office building before stepping inside the elevator to see someone else already got in.
I frowned at Satvik who also looked surprised to see me. I just shook my head and pressed the top floor to reach my flat while he pressed his office floor.
"What happened, Sha? Why are you looking sad?" he asked and I just ignored him.
"Sha!" he whispered, placing his hand on my cheek and brushed something away, but then I realized I am crying.
"Please don't cry!" he mumbled, but I pushed his hand away.
"Stay away from me, Satvik. You are my wrong decision and I will never forgive you for that." Saying that I closed my eyes and waited for him to leave when his floor reached.
The next day I called Bhai to reach a park where I know not many people will be there in the morning. I just planned to talk to him, but somehow it went out of hand when I threw all my emotions into it.
*Satvik Pov*
"She is still not here?" I asked Jay and he shook his head making me frown.
It's already afternoon and she still didn't come to work. She could be taking leave, but somehow her yesterday's sadness made me restless.
"I will check up on her." I mumbled and reached her floor, but stilled looking at her lying before the door.
"Sha!" I shouted reaching her and shook her, to which she pushed my hands away.
"I am alive!" she mumbled, but just covered her face.
"What happened?" I asked, sitting beside her and pushed the hair away only to see her tear stained cheeks.
"I just slapped my brother. How could I?" she asked mostly herself and I felt a shock hearing her words.
"Why?" I asked, placing my arms around her before pulling her to me.
"Why is not important here. Me doing this is the main thing. How could I?" she asked again and I rubbed her shoulders.
"I should have just talked to him and made him understand not to break up with Kirthi just because our parents wants it. But... but I slapped him. And this is all because of you." Saying that she pushed my hands away before turning towards me.
"What?" I asked her frowning how was I the reason for her brother to break up with some girl named Kirthi.
"I just took the anger over you at him. What have I done?" she asked herself and stood up slowly.
"I just did what you were doing all these months, right?" she asked in a whisper.
"Sha!" I called standing up, but she just opened the flat door.
"Leave me alone! I need to think how to make him apologize to her and bring them back together." Saying that she slammed the door on my face.
I frowned at my plate thinking what to do and closed my eyes, remembering her crying like that. I was brought out of my thoughts when I felt someone's hand on my shoulder.
"What happened?" Bhai asked and I opened my eyes to see everyone looking at me.
I calmly explained whatever I understood from Anusha's outburst and they calmly listened before letting the silence surround us as usual like from the past few months.
"They always see that background more than anything. Even Anusha's cousin has the same mindset and that's why we didn't entertain the marriage proposal with them for your brother." Dad explained and slowly told us how he rejected the proposal for Bhai.
"What do you want to do?" Mom asked looking at me.
"I found out she is an orphan and that's the main reason for all this. So, what if we adopt her?" I asked them and they just stared at me.
"Fine! But she needs to accept it before we can do anything." Mom's reply shocked me for sure along with everyone.
"I will talk to her tomorrow." I mumbled and finished my dinner with the conversations halting again with everyone lost in their own thoughts.
"And who are you?" I frowned, hearing the question and turned to see a doctor standing near me.
"I am here to meet Kirthi." I replied, to which he just frowned, giving me a look before walking off while I shook my head at his weirdness.
"Yes?" someone asked, walking near to me.
"Kirthi?" I asked back and she nodded.
"Thanks!" I said, remembering how she took care of Anusha and even let her stay at her place.
"Who are you?" she asked him frowning.
"Satvik!" I replied and waited for recognition.
"And?" she asked and I frowned at her.
"You never heard that name?" I asked, to which she shook her head and I felt the pinch thinking how much I have hurt her that she never used my name for two months.
"I am Anusha's Satvik." I gave the explanation and there was a recognition but she didn't say anything.
"Her husband!" I added.
"Ex-husband!" she corrected and I nodded sighing.
"Is she fine?" she asked frowning.
"Sad! But she is fine. I want to talk to you." I replied looking around.
"We don't know each other and you want to talk to me?" she asked and I nodded before looking at the area outside the main door and started walking there.
"I heard what Ansh's parents did to you." I started and she looked at me with a vary look making me frown.
"And?" she asked and I took a deep breath to start again.
"That they didn't accept you for your background. So..." I trailed off scratching my head thinking how to say the words.
While planning everything felt fine, but now to say the words, it is kind of awkward, mainly with not knowing her at all.
"So?" she asked, frowning.
"So, if you are fine with my family adopting you..." I couldn't finish when she suddenly stepped back.
"What?" she asked him with complete shock.
"Yeah! You will have a background with this adoption and Ansh's parents will accept you. Then both Ansh and you can be together. And she will feel..." I didn't finished stopping my words.
"I heard that his parent's hates your family and vice-versa. So, how will it help me?" she asked shaking her head.
"Right! I have a few friends who will do the same. So, will it be fine for you?" I asked, remembering Jay and Yash who I am sure will help me in this if it will reduce the pain for Anusha.
"No! I don't want that." She said, folding her hands.
"And it will be better if you can leave." she added and turned around to walk away.
"She is sad and upset for you both. Can't you at least think about this?" I asked and she stilled
"Ansh wanted to be with me again, but I was the one who broke up with him. So, his parents or he is not the reason for any of this." Saying that she walked off.
I stayed there for a few minutes before returning to home when I crossed the path. I walked inside to see Mom and Bhabhi cleaning the living room.
"So, what happened?" Bhabhi asked and I sighed before sitting on the couch.
"She said she is the one who broke up with Ansh when he wanted to be back together with her." I replied and I saw a relief on Mom's face.
"You didn't want to adopt Kirthi, do you?" I asked, to which she sat before me.
"Satvik! I am not the most kindest person here. I am rigid and I know about it. That's the fault of mine because of which I have hurt Anusha and I know it. But that doesn't mean I will be fine with adoption of a person whom I don't even know. Don't expect such drastic change in me." She explained.
"Then why did you accept?" I asked her frowning.
"Because you said it will help Anusha to not feel sad." She replied to which I shook my head.
After some time I returned to work to see Anusha is working on a file, but she is lost in her thoughts. I thought for a second before walking into her cabin deciding to say something to reduce her sadness.
"Hey!" I greeted her which she didn't even heard as she didn't move at all.
"Kirthi is the one who broke up with your brother when he wanted to be back with her." I uttered the words and to my bad luck she heard and glanced up to stare at me.
"What? How do you know that?" she asked frowning.
"Well, during lunch I went to a place and heard it." I replied.
"You went to a hospital and met her?" she asked blinking.
"No! Actually, I went to a restaurant and heard some nurses talking there who came for lunch. And I heard your brother's name and kind of listened more of their gossip. From that I found this." I explained, saying whatever that I coming to my head while looking at the window and not at her.
"Is that what Kirthi meant yesterday when I called her?" she asked and I turned to see her lost in her thoughts.
"I need to call Bhai and apologize immediately." Saying that she took her phone and completely ignored me, to which I calmly walked out of the cabin shaking my head.
Well, at least she will not stay sad. I smiled and reached my cabin to finish the work I missed from morning before six.
Next day, when I was working on the new idea for the client, I got a call from the receptionist saying someone is here to meet me. I glanced at the clock to see it is past eight and everyone left for their homes too along with Anusha.
"Who is it?" I asked her and immediately told her to send him up when she said Anusha's brother's name.
However, when he started warning me we heard Anusha and turned to see her standing near my door frowning at us.
I wish he will not say anything but of course he spilled out everything because of which she gave me a blank stare.
Along with that all my lies I utter yesterday got spilled out and I just shook my head thinking maybe I shouldn't have lied but she was sad dammit.
But then I glanced at his uneasiness when Anusha asked him to stay back for dinner and his slip of words saying someone is already preparing his favorites.
Then I remembered yesterday's conversation with Kirthi and how she reacted to my words so calmly. To top of all this I saw guilt creeping on Ansh face and I just know what is the matter.
"I will walk him to the elevator." Saying that I followed him while Ansh face is fully covered with guilt.
"She lied many times to you all to meet me also." I said when he got into the elevator and ignored his questions before turning around to see her still standing near the door with a blank stare.
"All these days I thought you at least don't lie, but seems like I was wrong on that also." She commented and I shook my head reaching near her.
"I couldn't see you sad, Sha." I said, placing my hand on her shoulder to which she stepped back making me drop the hand.
"You saw all that and were even fine before." She pointed out and moved to pass me, but I held her hand and turned her around to pull her in my arms.
I stared into her eyes, saying, "I didn't know! I was an ignorant bastard at that time only listening what I want to and seeing what I can. Now... now I will see each and every small thing which will hurt you. And this is not because to get you back, but to show that this is how I should have been and I failed. And this is how it will be if we get back together."
"We will never be together for me." She stated and stepped out from my hold.
"For me we always are together." I stated back, to which she just turned around leaving me there while I continued to stare at the steps even after she left from that place.
