END OF WARNING
The plane landed and Michael had sobered up completely. I had a small headache in the back just waiting for the sun to hit my face. I sighed as the terminal was bustling with people. I hated crowds and Mikey knew this. He squeezed my hand and placed himself in front of me to deal with the people. I loved that he protected me. I loved that he was the one that I would get to spend the rest of my life with.
I was honest with him and he was the only one I could be honest with. When I told him everything I expected him to run for the hills. Instead he held me and never let go. We were inseparable. Everyone on campus knew. His team mates knew. He was a baseball legend at our school. Scouts had shown up to his games and quite a few MLB scouts showed interest. "Just waiting on the draft." He would always say. The draft was in June and we were on standby until then. We graduate in May so we had our classes to keep us busy.
And there I was. The broken girl from a broken home who hadn't known love since she was 10. A cutter, suicide attempter, broken, fragile girl he met at 17. He knew what I had done and saw past it. He saw past everything and saw me for who I was and am.
I squeeze his hand as we make it to the luggage carousel where our dark green luggage awaits us. Our trip to get our rental took a few minutes as we had to walk to a certain area to pick it up.
"You ready sweet love?" He asks looking into my eyes.
"I don't know in all honesty." I said softly wringing my hands. He grabs my hands and kisses my knuckles.
"No matter what, I'm here. I have a hotel on standby in case we need to flee your parents house. Plus I don't really want to be in a separate room from you." He chuckled and I smiled.
We had shared a room since we first got together. Our first date ended up with us asleep on the floor in his dorm. His roommate woke us both up at 3am because he was drunk and we ended up sharing his small twin size bed. I had to basically lay on top of him to fit in.
Our trip to my parents house took almost an hour. They lived in the suburbs and had lived there since before Ryan was born. His hand squeezed mine as we drove up to the driveway and parked. Christmas lights were decorating the house and the house was quiet. Always quiet.
When we got out of the car we left our luggage in the car in case we needed to bolt as Mikey said and I agreed. I started to shake as Mikey rang the doorbell for me. He ran a hand down my cheek and a small smile broke out on my face.
"Sugar bean." My mom answered the door. Her southern accent had even became thicker over the years if that's even possible. "Hey mama." I whispered, "This is Michael. My fiancee." She enveloped me in a hug and I squeezed her back. I had escaped but she was still here. She never explained why she never left but that she just couldnt bring herself to do it.
As we came inside my mom yelled through the house as she walked back to the kitchen which was on the other side of the house. "BOYS!!! YOUR SISTER IS HERE!!!" the stomping down the stairs began and I froze. Mikey saw what my body did and stood in front of me to shield me. He was my literal knight in shining armor.
"Woohoo kitten. You grew up didn't you. Who the fuck is this?" Tyler sneered at Mikey. I grasped on to Mikeys arm.
"Tyler. This is Michael my fiancee." Michael put put his hand for Tyler to shake and Tyler did so but not without squeezing as hard as he could. Michael broke the shake and nodded at Ryan.
"Ryan." My brother simply said.
"Well kitten. We were surprised you said you had Mikey over here. Didn't think this would ever happen." Tyler laughed as I stood beside Michael. Michael's body tensed and he huffed in annoyance.
"Stop calling me that." I said softly. Tyler's face morphed into confusion and then annoyance.
"Oh sugar tits. You got a mouth on you huh?" Tyler barked a laugh.
Michael grabbed my arm. "Don't speak to her like that. You just hate you have no power anymore. Especially with me here." Michael retorted. Tyler raised an eyebrow at the both of us and he chuckled.
"Ok babe. Whatever." And off he walked.
My father wasn't home and that wasn't a big deal. It was also normal for him to only come home at midnight or later and be drunk.
Ryan stared at the ground during the whole ordeal not saying anything. Not even sure why. He always had a comeback or something. This time nothing escaped his lips.
I stared at him as I guided Michael up the stairs to show him my room. I opened the door to my room. The navy blue walls were exactly the same. The white curtains were open and showcasing the backyard that led into a small group of trees.
One of those trees was holding my treehouse. My safe zone. Maybe I could take Michael out there. Other then that it was exactly the same. Clothes strewn about. I remember packing the night before I left. I even left before anyone was home from partying. A note to my mother was left in her desk. And now here I am. 4 years later. Michael hugged me from behind.
"Not the room I was expecting babe." He laughed out. I smiled.
"Sorry love not a pink and unicorns type of girl." I laughed back.
"I'm sorry about before with those two." I whispered and he only nodded.
"I'm going to be by your side no matter what while we are here." He whispered in my ear and I smiled.
I knew nothing would happen to me if he was by my side. Not only is he my protector, but my best friend, my fiancee, and the sole reason I'm breathing today.
But first I needed to clear out my bathroom of any temptation. I grabbed a small bag from within my closet and handed it to him.
"I need to clean out this room of everything that may tempt me. Including my old stashes." I explained.
"Ok love. Tell me where to start." He said.
After finding stashes underneath my mattresses, my desk drawers, my closet (in 3 places), behind my headboard, and then my bathroom. I sighed when I got into my bathroom.
This bathroom held alot of memories for me. Alot of dark and twisted memories. This is where my life almost ended. I stood in the doorway and Michael stood behind me just waiting on me to make the first move.
"I'm right here." He whispered reassuringly. I nodded and took a big breath that I knew I needed.
I slowly opened the cabinet doors.
"I only have one stash in here. But it's the biggest." I said sitting on the floor and he sat beside me. I moved everything to the side and popped out a portion of the drywall where I hid everything. 4 box cutters, 30-40 razors, a first aid box, the pills I almost OD'd on, and my journal. I slowly moved everything into the bag. We didn't break the silence and Michael just sat there. Being my rock again as I moved past what I had done and what had been done to me.
As I got everything out he sat there just staring at me.
"Baby. I am so fucking proud of you." He said softly as he grabbed me in his arms. He placed the bag on the counter and enveloped me into a huge bear hug. I smiled into his chest.
"I cant say anything but thank you. You have been my biggest supporter and my rock to lean on. I dont know how to thank you enough." I said muffled into his flannel shirt.
He smiled again and lifted me up bridal style as I squealed with happiness. He laid me on the bed and laid on top of me. His hand brushed away hair from my face. He kissed me softly over and over. The kisses became deeper as he started grinding into me. I moaned softly into his kisses as my hands made their way to his hair.
A knock on the door interrupted us.
"Dad's home." A voice came from the other side. It was Ryan. I jumped up and opened the door. "We will be down in a minute." I said opening the door. Ryan's eyes moved from me to Michael who was still sitting on my bed.
"Dad won't let him sleep in here." He said with a smirk.
"Then we will stay at a hotel." I retorted.
Ryan's smirk melted away and it was replaced with a look of anger. I never spoke back and now that I would it pissed him off instantly.
Michael got up quickly and put his hand on the small of my back.
"We will be down soon Ryan." Michael shut the door in his face. I chuckled as I wrapped Michael into another embrace.
I kissed him one more time before we reopened the door and went downstairs hand in hand. Meeting my Dad would not be fun at all. I'm glad we left our stuff in the car.
