Chapter 3

NICO POV

-•-•-•-•-•-

Nico shoved clothes into his black duffle bag. At last, the last day of camp had come.

Nico, for once, was cheerful to leave camp. Normally he dreaded being thrown into a random foster home. But this time he had Percy to write to all year.

He just really wanted to make up with Percy.

Nico noticed Leo, Jason, and Piper standing off to one side. Nico knew that Leo was still depressed about Calypso. In the end, the gods had decided that his wish was too great and, out of pity, erased his promise to Calypso.

Nico, for once could relate to Leo. They both had someone they loved but couldn't reach.

"So, I guess this is it," Jason said quietly, looking at Nico. Nico shrugged and looked at the ground.

"I'll miss you guys," Piper chimed in.

"Oh come on Grace! It's not like you aren't coming to camp next year!" Leo exclaimed, clapping Jason on the back.

"Well, that's the thing. You see, Piper and I are going to Camp Jupiter year-round," Jason announced. There was wistfulness in his eyes.

"No!" Nico blurted. The three other demigods turned to look at Nico curiously.

"Jason, you're the thing that keeps me sane!" Nico protested. "I won't be able to hold in my crush for Percy any longer, then I'll blurt it out and Percy will hate me more than he already does!"

Leo and Piper stared at Nico in shock, while Jason just smiled.

Jason took a few steps and wrapped Nico in a hug. (A/N: He's hugging him in a brotherly way, not a Jasico way) Nico flinched at the gesture but didn't protest.

"Hey Nico, I'm really sorry but I have to. It's the only place demigods can be safe," Jason said quietly.

"You're safe here too!" Nico protested, his voice cracking. His only friend was leaving him!

"Sorry Nico," Piper said pitifully.

Nico simply spun around and stalked away, too hurt to reply back. The son of Hades who never cried, was now practically bawling.

Nico was so busy with self-pity that he didn't realize when he practically ran over Percy.

"Sorry," Nico growled and began to push past him. Percy blocked his path.

"No. I'm sorry," Percy said softly. "Annabeth told me what happened."

Nico looked up at Percy. Gods he's gorgeous, Nico thought.

With his sparkling sea green eyes that shone with pain from his experience from Tartarus and his raven-black hair, Nico had to fight the urge to kiss him right there and then.

But then there was Annabeth to think about.

Nico didn't want to die, and he surely would if he kissed Percy. No, he would keep it strictly G.

For now.

"Uh, Nico, you okay? You're staring at me like a bug landed on my face," Percy said, poking Nico's cheek. Nico blushed.

"Go away Jackson," he grumbled. Reluctantly, Nico walked away to find Chiron so he could sign out of camp for the summer.

-•-•-•-•-•-

He found Chiron and signed the sheet, saying everything was cleaned out. Moments later he was out of camp boundaries looking for a nice, quiet spot to shadow travel.

It wasn't long before he found a nice tree. He focused all his energy on the foster home and traveled.

Instantly, he felt time and space racing beside him. Edges of darkness pressed on his vision. When he landed, he felt like he was going to pass out. Instead, Nico opened the door.

Instantly, the face of the caretaker smiled at him.

"Welcome home Nico! Good news, we've found a home for you to stay at for an entire year!" Nanny Betty squealed. Nico plastered a fake smile on his face.

"Great," Nico exclaimed halfheartedly. Moments later, Betty had dragged Nico to her car and was driving to the new home.

-•-•-•-•-•-

When we arrived, my breath caught in my throat. The house was beautiful, and three stories. It was practically a mansion!

Betty walked me up the steps and knocked on the door. Self-consciously, Nico brushed some hair into his eyes.

Suddenly, the door opened and a woman who looked about thirty opened the door.

"Hello, you must be Nico!" She exclaimed and extended her hand. I smiled and took it.

"Yes, I'm Nico," he said quietly.

"My name is Jessica. I have another son named Caleb. I'm sure you two will get along great!" Jessica chirped.

"Yeah," Nico grumbled. "Best friends."

Nico gave Betty a quick hug then followed Jessica inside.

-•-•-•-•-•-

When he got inside, the first thing he noticed was a boy. Caleb looked about twelve, with black hair and baby blue eyes. He was cute, but not as cute as Percy.

"You must be Nico," Caleb said excitedly. "Finally, I have a brother!"

Nico had to smile at his energetic personality.

"You remind me of myself before..." Nico trailed off as memories of Bianca crowded his mind. He shook the thoughts away before he could cry.

"Anyways, where is my room?" Nico asked.

"Oh, you must be tired. It's on the second floor. Here, follow me!" Caleb said excitedly and began to walk toward the stairs. Nico picked up his bag and followed Caleb.

After a short trip up the stairs, Caleb went down a hallway and pointed to a door on the left side. Caleb then opened the door.

When he swung the door open, Nico almost forgot how to breath.

The room was a light gray with white carpet. Also, it was huge. In the middle there was a king sized bed with a gray and white checkered comforter. There was also a desk, dresser, giant walk in closet, and even a windowsill. Even better, Nico had remembered to grab the laptop Bianca had given him awhile back.

"Thanks Caleb. This is truly amazing," Nico said, flashing his new brother a rare smile.

Caleb returned the smile and replied, "No problem, brother." And with that, he left, leaving Nico to unpack.

PERCY POV

"MOOOM I'M HOOOOOME!!!" Percy shouted as he clambered up the stairs of his mother's New York apartment.

Sally Jackson stopped what she was doing and gave Percy a huge hug.

"I missed you so much!" She squealed, still squishing Percy.

"Mom... Can't... Breath," Percy wheezed. His mother let him go and smiled widely.

"I made your favorite, blue cookies!" His mom said excitedly, rushing into the kitchen.

Percy chuckled and followed his excited mother. He considered himself lucky to have an awesome mom.

That night, Percy still hadn't seen Paul. Apparently, he was held up with paperwork at Goode. Percy was upset about not getting to see him, but he knew that in the morning he would be there. The next day was Friday after all.

As he clambered into his bed, his last thought was remembering that he needed to write a letter to Nico.

NICO POV

As Nico put the last pair of shoes in the closet, he remembered that he had to write to Percy.

Deciding to write the old fashioned way, he opened one of the desks many drawers and found a notebook and some pencils. He pulled out the notebook and began to write:

Dear Percy,

I'm really sorry about what happened earlier this week. I should've realized that Annabeth was there.

Anyways, I really hope you've settled in well. My new foster home is amazing; it's practically like a mansion! Also my foster mother and brother are really nice. I'm so lucky to have gotten this house. I'm pretty sure it's the best one I've had in my entire life.

So how are you? Did you hear Jason is going to Camp Jupiter instead of Camp Half-Blood? It's really sad. My only friend is leaving :(. Well, besides you anyways.

Write back soon!

-Nico

Nico smiled as he wrote. Knowing that Percy would read this made me feel a million times happier.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Nico got up and walked over to the door and opened it.

Standing in the doorframe was Caleb.

"Hey, I was wondering if you wanted to go to the pool tomorrow. It is the last day of summer after all," Caleb said, looking up at Nico hopefully.

Nico laughed and ruffled his hair. "Sure," he said to his brother. Suddenly, he had an idea.

"Is it okay if I drop something off on the way tomorrow?" Nico asked. Caleb nodded.

"Yay! This is awesome! Thanks for being an awesome brother, Nico!" Caleb exclaimed.

"No, thank you."
