~• Summer Souls •~

We have summer souls, bright golden like the rays of the sun and just as cheerful as a sunny day spreading its inviting warmth after a bleak long winter.

We have summer souls, we offer comfort to everyone around us, letting them bask in the light we radiate for them, enveloping them in the sweetest of hugs when they feel down.

Summer souls for our eyes light up like the strings of fairy lights suspended in blossoming gardens when we see our loved ones happy and content.

Summer souls because our touch is warm and soothing like the soft beams of the sun penetrating through the lush evergreen canopies.

Summer souls for our hearts are as sweet as licorice and our skin is soft yet textured like the warm sand underneath our toes when we walk barefoot on the beach.

Summer souls for our laughs resonate like gurgling waters of the river, gushing down an uneven rocky terrain. While our smiles break out like fountains from the crevices of worn out stones, washing over rough surfaces and smoothing even the most solemn features.

Summer souls as our hands yearn to touch everything that intrigues us, just like the penetrating rays of the sun that yearn to spread their glow all around, enveloping the whole world in a misty golden.

Summer souls for we turn all our attention to our special person just like sunflowers turn their heads in the direction of the sun. Or like fireflies gathering around a solitary light source, our faces glitter with admiration just because we're in the presence of a loved one.

Have you ever wondered what effect summer souls like us have on the people around us?

If they could take a dip into our souls just like they strip and dive into a warm lake to cool themselves, they would find the waters much deeper inside us than they imagined. Deep but not too much to swallow them whole, just enough to keep them submerged until they have discarded all the worries clinging to them in layers.

Our company offers the respite of walking barefoot on the cool dewy grass way early in the morning when the first ray of dawn breaks the night. We are calm and storm rolled into one for we can be as warm as a loving hug or as intolerable as a midday sun.

And just like the sun, we are constantly burning—in passion, in longing, in admiration, or in suffering. Constantly watching our souls light up and disintegrate with the passage of time, but knowing that if we ceased to burn, what would become of the people who flock to us for our light and warmth?

In the coldest of nights, we crackle like a warm fire in the hearth, melting all the sorrows away like snow thawing into a pool of its tears. In the darkest of storms, we become a lantern spreading its lumen as far as possible, guiding other souls through the uncertainty that grips us all.

Thus, we are everything yet nothing to the people surrounding us. If we left, their lives would return on the same boring track. But while we are here, they don't even pause for a second to think about us.

Because when has anyone appreciated summer while it lasts? When has anyone looked up at the warm sun and said, "Oh, I am so glad it is shining today...?"

Only when the summer fades to autumn and then to a piercing winter do they remember the warmth of the sun, the pleasure of a sunlit day, and everything else that they had disdained when summer was bestowing them with its glory.

Summer souls.

Always burning but never realized until the sun sets over the horizon forever, opening the windows of eternal darkness.

Perhaps such are the threads our fate is woven with. We are seldom appreciated when we are out there for everyone to bask in the warmth and comfort we offer. Only when we cease to exist do they realize our worth.

Only when some calamity eclipses us do they realize the treasure they lost, the light they allowed to fade, the heat they let disperse, and the vitality they watched come to an end.
