Chapter One
Adelaide Nightingale
The empire of Somar had fallen by my blade and that of my vast army. The emperor of this empire laid at my feet his blood staining my sword crimson. His wife and eldest daughter also laid dead their bodies mangled from the fight they put up.
At the side of the throne room the crown prince who had been set to inherit the throne lay against the wall. His clothes were stained with his blood as he clutched at the wound in his middle. I had tossed him aside after making sure he couldn't flee by stabbing him. As the youngest of the two children, he wasn't supposed to be the one that inherited the throne, but he was the favorite of the empire.
His beauty is what made him the favorite of the empire he had a gentle elegant look to him. All the other empires were aware he had been spoiled from the minute he was born by everyone including his sister who willingly gave up her position of heir to the throne.
He was wearing a charm from a witch to hide his soul to keep me from recognizing him. Joseph Varro was his name in this life when it used to be Marcus Bartlow back when I killed him for attempting to betray me. I didn't recognize him by his soul though I realized it was him by the lovesick look he was giving me. He had given me this look in every life I had killed him in, and it still hadn't changed.
I decided to see what he was after in this life by pretending I didn't recognize him. I approach him slowly and put the blade of my sword underneath his chin lifting his head up. I watched as his family's blood rubbed off on the skin of his chin tilting my head slightly.
"I think I'll take you as my personal servant." My lips quirk into a cruel, mocking smile. "The great beloved crown prince of the Empire of Somar reduced to a mere servant."
I turn away from him sheathing my sword at my hip I gesture to my soldiers to grab him. "Take crown prince Joseph to the castle have him changed into traditional servant clothes. If he struggles make an example of him to the other people, we have taken as servants."
I walk off leaving him alone with my soldiers who roughly yank him up tying him with ropes. I walk outside the castle to my horse looking over at my general.
"Make sure the entire empire knows they are now a part of the Nyvorran empire and that they are expected to follow our laws now." I swing onto my horse looking at the number of servants we had taken that were once nobles of this empire.
I don't allow anyone from the empires I take over continue to remain in high standing. It raises the chances of an attempt of a revolution attempt and I did not take well to people who opposed me. I just hoped I hadn't made the first foolish decision I had made in my life by allowing Joseph to live instead of killing him like I had many times before.
