Separation Issues

"Hey, it's okay. You can trust us," April told the small boy who was just standing to the side and watching the new family together. He felt left out, but he still didn't trust them yet. "No!" Carlos screamed out as he just continued to stand off to the side and watch his sister.

"Cawos id otay. Pomise!" The small two year old told her big brother who hesitantly took a few steps forward before shaking his head no and stepping backwards. This motion made the small girl squirm away from her new parents as she toddled over to her big brother holding her hand out.

"Mal I'm scared I don't trust them," the young boy told his baby sister who just gave him a hug and a smile. "Id otay Cawos dey no wike meanie mommy. Dey weawy ice. Pomise! How han," the young toddler told her big brother, making Carlos smile a little as he nodded and grabbed Mal's tinier hand.

"Otay I trust you Mally," Carlos told his baby sister who smiled as she toddled over to her parents again this time holding hands with her big brother. They had been doing that ever since Mal first learned how to walk. In fact that's how Carlos ended up helping her take her first steps.

When they held hands they knew they were safe and had each other's backs no matter what. "Cawos dis is aw new mommy an dis aw new daddy! Mommy! Daddy! Dis Cawos he my bi bwobew! He wib wif us now," the small girl introduced as she didn't want to lose her brother again, but she loved her new mommy and daddy.

This made April and Nick laugh as they couldn't help it seeing how happy and excited Mal looked again as she hadn't been that excited in a while. And they found it adorable how close Carlos and Mal seemed to be.

"Hello Mal's new mommy and daddy," Carlos nervously told the two young adults as he was afraid of their reactions, but he was surprised when instead of being met by yelling he was met with a warm and happy feeling as he was brought into a hug making the small boy smile as he melted into the hug not being able to fight it.

"Tow you! Dey weawy ice!" Mal told her big brother, making him laugh as he nodded. "Yeah I should have listened to you," Carlos told his baby sister who giggled. "Yeah!" The young girl screamed out making Carlos and the others laugh before Carlos got serious again as he looked April and Nick in the eyes.

"Are you gonna adopt me too and be my new mommy and daddy too or am I gonna have to go away again cause I don't wanna go away and leave Mal again. I need my baby sister," Carlos told April and Nick, giving them his puppy dog eyes, making the two young adults' hearts melt.

"Aw bud it's okay you and Mal won't be separated anymore we promise. And don't worry, we're going to try our best to make sure that you can stay in this family with us," Nick told Carlos in his gentle voice, making the young boy smile.

"Really! Yay! Mally we're gonna be a family again!" The small preschooler told his baby sister as he jumped up and down excitedly as he couldn't believe he was going to get a new family and his baby sister too.

"Yay!" The small toddler cried out excitedly as she also joined in with her big brother. "Come on Mal let's go celebrate in your room with a game of dragon!" Carlos told his sister who just laughed. "Otay! Wace you!" The small toddler exclaimed as she took off running to her room making Carlos laugh as he ran after her.

Just as soon as the kids ran off the doorbell rang as Ms. Barb had just finished talking with the social worker and explaining everything to her. "Oh hey you're back what did they say," April asked her old dance teacher as she opened the door and let her back inside.

"Are the kids around," Ms Barb asked as she didn't want to talk about any of this with the two young kids around. "Um yeah but they're playing dragon in Mal's room," Nick told Ms Barb who just nodded as she looked at the young couple.

"Okay good well anyway I talked to the social worker and she agrees that it would be best for Carlos to be with his biological sister and with his family however she did say it's going to take a little bit of time for them to officially approve of the two of you and in the meantime they want him to stay in my care. I'm so sorry I tried to convince her, but she said there's nothing she can do until then," Ms. Barb told the young couple.

She hated having to do this to them as she knew they were really hoping to take Carlos in right away, but unfortunately this was the only option. "So what are you saying? They don't approve of us?" April asked as she was starting to feel hurt by those words.

Carlos was her family by blood and he was Mal's brother. The thought of them not approving of her to have custody of her own family honestly hurt considering they allowed her to take in Mal, but not Carlos.

"No of course they do, it's just standard procedure," Ms Barb told April trying to make her feel better as she could tell that April was feeling hurt right now and wanted her to know that it had nothing to do with her or Nick it was just a policy they had to obey.

"If it's just a standard procedure then why did they not do this with Mal. We had custody in like a day," April told Ms Barb as she didn't get it and was pretty sure Ms Barb was lying to make them feel better. She knew the process already from when they adopted Mal and it was not like this.

"April's right about that. Do they not trust us," Nick asked Ms Barb as he put his arm around April as he could tell she was starting to feel hurt right now and he just wanted to make her feel better.

"Oh no I promise it's not that. It is different though because Mal wasn't ever in the system. Carlos has been in the system for almost a year now, so his situation is a little more difficult, but I promise you will get Carlos don't worry about that," Ms Barb told the two younger adults who just nodded as they tried to process everything.

"Okay so you're going to keep our son for what days or weeks and then they approve us and we can have our son back," April asked her former teacher as she was frustrated. She knew it wasn't her fault, but she couldn't help but feel mad.

Carlos was hers and Nick's not Ms Barb's and knowing that Ms Barb was basically keeping her son from her purposely or not it hurt.

Ms. Barb just sighed as she looked at the two upset young adults. "I know this is hard but I can assure you that I am not taking him from you. He is definitely yours," Ms Barb told the two, making them nod as they were about to respond when the two kids came out as they had been secretly listening.

"You're gonna make me go away again," Carlos innocently asked the three, making the adults freeze up as they hadn't realized the kids had been listening. "Carlos how much did you hear," Ms Barb asked her foster son who just shook his head as he pulled Mal close to him.

"You're gonna make me stay with you! I don't wanna! I wanna stay with Mal! I don't wanna be separated again! I wanna stay here! I wanna stay here! I wanna stay here!" The four year old screamed out as he began to throw a tantrum not wanting to leave his sister.

"No Carlos we're not separating you I promise. It's just temporary and you can still come and see her whenever you want," Ms Barb told the small boy who just shook his head no again as he continued to cry, making the three adults feel horrible as they hated seeing the two kids so upset and begging to stay together.

The crying got worse though when Ms Barb realized the time as she knew she had to go even though she really didn't want to. "Carlos I'm sorry but we have to go now. You can come and see them tomorrow I promise. Say bye bye," Ms Barb told the small boy as she picked him up, making him start screaming, kicking, and crying.

"NOOOO! NOOOO! I wanna stay here! I wanna stay here! You promised me! You promised me I could stay here! Please don't make me go away! Please!" The young preschooler cried out hysterically as he looked April and Nick in the eyes, making April and Nick start crying as well as they just wanted to grab Carlos and hug him tightly and not let go, but they couldn't.

"It's okay bud we're gonna get you back okay. It's all going to be okay we promise okay," Nick told Carlos, making the young boy let out a small smile as he looked at the couple. "Pomise," Carlos asked with hope in his eyes making the two smile a little as they nodded.

"Yeah we promise," April told Carlos who calmed down as he said his goodbyes and left with Ms Barb, but as soon as Carlos left the small toddler who had been crying and watching started screaming and crying hysterically as she tried to run after her brother.

"NOOOO! NOOO! NOOO! I WAN CAWOS! I WAN CAWOS! I WAN CAWOS! NOOOOOO! NOOOO! I WAN CAWOS BA! I WAN CAWOS BA!" The young two year old screamed out as she bashed her tiny fists on the door and continued to cry out for her big brother.

April immediately ran and picked up the sobbing toddler as she started trying to calm her down even though she was mad and felt like crying too. "Hey shh Mal I know. I know you want Carlos. I know sweetie I want him too, but we have to do this. I know it's unfair and it's wrong but we have to. I'm so sorry Mal I'm so sorry," April told the toddler as she hugged her tightly and rocked her trying to calm her down.

This just made it worse though as the small girl couldn't seem to be able to calm down but instead started crying harder until she ended up throwing up making her cry even harder as she was in pain, missing her brother, and now was terrified of getting in trouble.

"Okay that's disgusting... I mean shh Mal it's okay come on let's get cleaned up," April quickly told the toddler as she was still trying to calm her down, but throw up all in her hair was not a good feeling at all.

"Nooo! Nooo! I sowy! I sowy! I no me to! I no me to!" The small girl cried out making April sigh as she was trying her best to remain calm but it was becoming harder and harder to do that.

"Hey Mal it's okay you're not in trouble now come on let's go get cleaned up while daddy goes and gets your brother back," April told the toddler as she picked her back up and headed to the bathroom but not before locking eyes with Nick sending him the message that she was being serious.
