[5] SUNLIGHT

the sunlight has never looked as beautiful as it does now, falling on your face and touching you more gently than i have ever touched you, bathing your skin in tones of honey and gold and god, i could spend the rest of my life star gazing into your eyes and naming the different colors your skin turns when the sunlight falls on it.

you blink calmly in the sweet summer afternoon and when you open your eyes, the sunlight reflects off your irises and blinds me and then you smile with all the joy in the world and lean forward to touch my lips with yours and i can taste the sunlight off them. it doesn't scorch my lips like it should; it just warms them as though they have finally received what they have been waiting for.

"let your heart beat," you tell me as you trace my collarbone with your finger. "it's okay. let it go."
