Laurel Lance rolled out of bed, her body aching. She was pretty sure every single one of her ribs was bruised from getting her ass kicked the night before.
She looked at her Black Canary suit she had hastily thrown on her dressed before going to bed.
She walked out of her room and into the bathroom. Sara was still asleep, and Laurel didn't want to wake her.
She stared at her reflection in the mirror. Her right eye was black and blue, and swollen. Great, a black eye.
She put enough makeup on her face to make the black eye look like she was exhausted. She walked out of the bathroom, and got dressed.
She wore a navy dress and heels, her brunette hair pulled up into a tight bun. "Where are you off to looking all dressed up?" Sara asked, a smile on her face.
"I have a work interview." Laurel said.
"Good luck." Sara looked just as bad as Laurel.
"Thank you." She said, and her knee almost gave out. "I'm fine! I'm fine!" She said, and shuffled out the door.
When she arrived at Nelson & Murdock, her nerves were pounding. She sighed, and walked up the stairs.
When she entered, she bumped into a man. "I'm sorry." He grabbed her wrist, steadying her.
"It's alright." He smiled, and her heart skipped a beat.
"I'm Laurel, Laurel Lance." She blushed so hard she felt like a tomato.
"Right, you're here for the interview." The man said. "And you're blushing." She grinned.
"Sorry."
"Don't be sorry, you're cute when you blush."
"Matt, why are you flirting with her?" A man with longer hair said.
So the man standing in front of her was Matt Murdock. The longer haired man was Foggy Nelson. "I'm sorry Miss Lance." Matt let's go if her wrist, and she sighed.
His voice sounded familiar to her. She didn't know why, she hadn't met him before.
The smile faded off his face as he moved away. "So, I guess we have to interview you now."
Laurel laughed nervously. "I guess so."
They sat down in their conference room, and Karen Page had joined them. "Foggy, Karen, I can handle this." Matt said.
Laurel stiffened. "So... Miss Lance, I heard you lost your job, but then became the Assistant Defense Attorney in Star City?"
She nodded. "Oh, sorry."
He laughed. "You nodded didn't you?"
She smiled. "Yes."
"You have a pretty smile."
"Thank you."
"So... back on track."
"Right. Yes, I became the youngest ADA in Star City."
"We looked into some of your work, and I knew we needed you."
"Okay..."
"You've got the job." Matt held his hand out for her to shake. She shook his hand, and smiled.
When she got home, she grinned like a little girl. "What's up?" Sara said, holding a mug of coffee.
"I got the job!" Laurel shouted, kicking her heels off.
"Congrats!" Sara hugged her sister.
"Thank you!" Laurel grinned again.
"So... what's he like?"
"Who?"
"Matt Murdock."
"Oh, he's interesting." Laurel said, blushing.
"Don't tell me you have a thing for him."
"What?"
"You do don't you?"
"Maybe..." A small smile appeared on her lips. Sara raised her eyebrows. "Okay fine. I do."
Sara laughed. "Good luck with that."
"What do you mean?"
"I meant it as I hope it works out for you."
"Thank you."
Sara grinned again.
"Laurel Lance, always trying to save the world."
