chapter 9: a distraction

Zachary Walton's P.O.V

"No, he didn't just break up with me. He forced me to abort my baby. Our baby."

I dropped my fork down looking at her thoughtfully. She said he left for London, Andy left for London at 17. Did she really want to have a baby at 17? I didn't know what to say or what to think. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't fazed. No, I was, and I also felt like strangling Andy right now for not being careful. I had to choose my words wisely. I kept opening and closing my mouth.

"I... I shouldn't have told you about it. I didn't mean to shock you."

She said offering a smile but the hurt was evident in her eyes as well as her face. I reached out and took her hand in mine kissing it gently.

"No, I'm just upset you had to go through this at an early age but I'm glad you could trust me enough to confide in me. It means a lot."

I let my gaze study every detail of her face while she had her eyes looking at our hands softly. She didn't want to admit it, but I could tell she was affected by me, by my touch. This morning was just proof of that. She burst into my office so angry like a madwoman, and it only took one touch for me to have her voice soften and her body to relax. My eyes wandered to her plump lips and I groaned wanting nothing but to feel them against mine again. I seem to have caught her attention as she looked up at me questioningly. Oh so innocent.

I cleared my throat and asked for the check. "Why would you be so... reckless to let him knock you up in the first place?"

I saw hurt flash in her eyes and I regretted asking her that as she just drew her hand back and looked at me raising an eyebrow. Wrong words Zachary!

"Do you know that I never had any boyfriend after Andy? You want to know why?"

I raised an eyebrow in response encouraging her to keep talking "because, even though I hate to speak in general, but all men are the same." Maybe she saw the confused look in my eyes because she immediately tried to explain it more to me.

"It's easy. Boy notices quiet girl, the boy is determined to win a bet and play the quiet girl. He makes her fall for him. Maybe he did love her, but not enough to stick around or to respect her wishes. Boy wants to sleep with the girl who keeps saying she's not ready, until one night..." she paused making my heart clench as I saw tears welling in her eyes.

"You don't have to continue Elise," I said realizing how much pain she was feeling.

"No, I want to. So as I was saying, until one night, the boy takes her out, encourages her to drink enough to get her light-headed at first. Then, he gets her drunk, takes her to a hotel, and takes away the most precious thing she had. Not even bothering to use protection." She was holding the sobs in at this point.

I didn't care about the bill anymore. I just wanted to get her out of here and comfort her. And that's what I did. I put a few hundred on the table and took her hand in mine leading her to my car. Once we're settled in the back seat I pull her to me feeling her hot breath fanning my neck.

"Next day, I woke up sore, all alone in that hotel room with a note saying 'I'll see you around Collins'. And after that, even when he saw me in the hallways he would avoid me, or even bully me with the other jocks." She looked up at me seeing my own tears starting to form in my eyes and gently stroke my cheek comforting me while I should be the one comforting her.

"A couple of months later, I knew I was pregnant and told him. He treated me of the worst things anyone could imagine, before accusing me of it not being his. He told me to get rid of the baby but I wouldn't, I'm not heartless. I knew keeping it would destroy me, my future, career but I just couldn't go through with it. Andy, played me again, making me believe he changed his mind and was ready for us to do this together, only to put some pills in my juice making me lose my baby. Next day I learn from a teacher he left for London."

She shook her head looking at her hands "He made sure I lost the baby before he actually left. I loved him so much, that even after all he did to me I kept thinking about him, I kept dreaming that one day we will get another chance. It took me a couple of years to get over him but still not trusting any man, rarely going on dates, and certainly not sleeping with anyone."

I wiped my tears looking out the window not trusting my voice to speak up. That fucking bastard is going to pay for making her suffer this much. Her soft voice made me look at her as she kept going.

"The other day, at your parent's house, I wasn't ready for it. I didn't know he was your cousin and when I saw him I just wanted to leave but I couldn't do that to you. So I walked out and head toward the house before I could change my mind. I acted all cold and brave when in truth I was breaking slowly from the inside. When he hugged me, I felt nothing but hatred towards him. I didn't even get why he's trying to talk to me again after what happened."

I decided to stay silent as I stroke her hair gently. We stayed parked in front of the café for another thirty minutes silently with me playing with her soft brown hair and occasionally kissing her forehead. When I was sure she had calmed down I smiled telling her to sit up front as I did the same and drove to my house. She looked up at me questioningly but I just squeezed her hand a little while offering her a smile.

"I'm just not ready to let you go and be on your own. And it's still early, we missed lunch but we can order dinner and have a movie night." When I felt her hesitation I grinned "I've got buckets of ice creams. So many flavors, and so many chocolate bars."

I heard her moan so low I knew I wasn't meant to hear it. But god I loved the sound of it. What would it feel like to have her moan my name?

"Okay, but I don't sleepover. Will you take me back to my house after the movie night?" I knew this wouldn't happen but nodded anyway.

Again, as soon as we were both heading to the elevator, I took her hand in mine aching for her touch. Bringing it up to my lips I kissed it gently. Her hand looked so tiny in mine, it was so soft that I didn't want to let go.

After showing her my closet to pick something comfy I went to order Chinese giving her space to change. Setting the plates on the coffee table in the living room, I set some pillows on the wooden floor so we could sit down on it comfortably. Elise didn't come out for a while. She might be taking a shower. I sat down on one of the pillows and waited, giving her some space. I still couldn't forget the painful look she had when she told me about Andy. I felt bad for pushing it and asking to know about it but I was also happy she was finally able to open up to me.

The bell rang and since I had given the maid the day off I jumped on my feet not caring I was wearing only sweatpants and opened the door. I saw the delivery guy standing in front of my door looking around in awe. I paid him before reaching out to take the bags but noticed he didn't even make an effort in handing them over. I instantly looked up at his face to see him looking behind me with his mouth hanging low.

Intrigued, I turned around to find Elise wearing one of my plain white shirts that looked oversized on her. It barely reached her mid-thighs. Her hair was flowing down in wet waves to the side on her right shoulder. She had no makeup on; her natural beauty was breathtaking.

I looked back at the delivery guy and smirked using my index to close up his mouth "Sorry man, she's mine" I grinned taking the bags from him and tipping him before closing the door. I turned to look at Elise who was now sitting on one of the pillows on the floor looking like a painting. A breathtaking beautiful painting.

I fixed my sweatpants to hide my growing hard-on and sat next to her setting the boxes on the table.

Elise moaned at the smell of food making me groan internally. We started eating and I felt at ease seeing her smile as we made light conversation.

"You promised movie night" she pointed to the oversized tv.

"Yes, but after dinner. We won't watch it here."

Elise Collins P.O.V

Dinner went by smoothly. I was worried after pouring my heart out to him I'd feel awkward and ill at ease. Zachary got an email and he was reading it with a slight frown on his face. I admired him lovingly. Not really knowing why but I felt butterflies dancing in my stomach. I started taking the dishes and boxes to the kitchen and soon enough Zachary helped me finish everything. He turned to me a smile playing on his lips.

"Now" he handed me a basket full of snacks, and took out a few tubs of ice cream "Follow me sexy."

"sexy?" I giggled "Where are we going?"

"Cinema."

I followed behind and waited as he pushed a door open and went in. he wasn't kidding. He had a theatre in his flat!!

"Holly molly!"

That earned me a chuckle from him "you like it?"

"Are you kidding me? I love it" I said looking at the comfortable large bed like sofas. It was slightly cold in there but I was relieved when I saw the warm blankets lying on the sofas.

We sat down the snacks and drinks on the middle large sofa and both sat down in the dimmed lightened room. "This is amazing" I looked up at him smiling "Thank you for this," I said gesturing around not for one-second regretting coming here with him.

"Anything to see that beautiful smile of yours."

We didn't pay much attention to the time, or even to the movies we were watching. We were both very much aware of one another. It didn't take my eyes long to close, I knew I shouldn't sleep, I knew I had to get up and go home but just five minutes won't hurt anyone.

Those five minutes turned into the whole night. I woke up to a phone ringing, still feeling tired and sleepy. I stretched my arms only to bump into a hard chest. I smiled looking down at Zachary's sleeping form. Like an angel...

I glanced at his phone ringing and cringed at the caller ID. Veronica.

"Mr. Walton, Veronica is calling you". I kept calling his name until he woke up looking up sleepily.

He smiled widely when he saw me "what a beautiful face to wake up to."

I kept a blank face handing him his phone and getting up to make my way out of the room. I headed to his bedroom to change my clothes; after a while, I used a spare toothbrush I found in his en-suite bathroom and fixed my hair in a messy bun. Grabbing my things from his bed, I put on my boots and walked out of his bedroom ready to leave when I saw him standing just by the front door with his arms crossed over his still bare chest. He looked upset and worried at the same time. He seemed to look me up and down before deciding to speak up.

"What got your pants in a twist today? I thought last night was great and a good distraction..."

I didn't let him finish "distraction? Is that what I am to you, Mr. Walton?"

"Elise stop calling me that! To you I'm Zachary" he said in a warning tone.

"Doesn't matter. I'm leaving, after everything I told you, you use me to distract yourself from her. No Zachary," I emphasized his name. "I won't let you use me like that. You are not different from your cousin" I saw him frown out of confusion. And saw the hurt that flickered in his eyes.

"Use you? Do you really think I'm like Andy? Do you really think I would use you as he did? I thought you knew me better than anyone else in this world. Guess I was wrong." he stepped closer to me and lifted my face up to meet his gaze.

He looked so mad, yet so dangerously handsome.

"I'm using you as a distraction from whom exactly?" his tone was low with a hint of anger. I knew he was ready to burst but was holding back for my own sake.

"Veronica" I whispered averting my gaze from his, looking anywhere but his face. I didn't want him to read me, to know how I truly felt.

He paused for a moment before bursting into laughter making me snap my head up looking at him with an eyebrow raised.

"Alright, this is nonsense. But I know what I have to do to make you believe me. Just please wait for me, just ten minutes" he went to his bedroom and I waited while tapping my foot on the hardwood floor.

Exactly ten minutes later, Zachary walks out wearing blue jeans and a white polo shirt with white matching shoes. He looked dashing. Grabbing his keys he took my hand in his holding it firmly not giving me a chance to protest. Soon enough, we were in his car as he drove to town silently. Forty-five minutes later, he gave his car to a valet at the Hilton's and we walked inside.

I still didn't know why he brought me to this hotel, and I didn't dare ask. I was so caught up in my thoughts that I only noticed we got in the elevator when a ding sounded indicating us we reached our floor. Zachary held my hand so tightly as he pulled me with him walking past a few doors only to stop in front of room 309.

He knocked twice "open up, it's me," he said stepping back still holding my hand but also still avoiding my gaze.

A few seconds later, the doors to the suite open to reveal Veronica. I frowned at him. We just had an argument about her and he brought me here? How was that going to make me feel any better?

"Momyyyy" I froze looking behind Veronica only to see a little girl with the same green eyes as Zachary. Same lips... please no same hair...

He couldn't be the father, and that wasn't a way to tell me about it. It only took seconds for my vision to blur, soon everything went black, and the last thing I heard was Zachary calling my name.

Hey guys, hope you liked this chapter.

I know it was a little sad with a bit of drama, but I do hope it was worth the wait.
