•Chapter Five• Kate's Story
I was an all around normal girl. Pretty, smart, good at knowing exactly what everyone was thinking. Okay, maybe that's not normal. Even as a young girl I was able to know what was bothering people, even if they tried to hide it. Everyone says I am good at reading people, and I happily accept that title.
When I was younger, I would spend a lot of time around adults and in a hospital, instead of with other kids. The main reason was that my mom was a single parent, and she was always working as a doctor. With my gift of reading people, I could tell families what was wrong with someone who couldn't speak well or at all.
Today, I was walking to school with my best friend, Laura Sniper. She had broad shoulders, black hair and black eyes. No matter what emotion she was feeling, her face remained serious. I could never read her thoughts, which bugged me immensely. As we were turning the corner towards school, I saw a small girl running away from a creature that looked like a lion- but creepier and standing on it's back legs. I stopped in my tracks, but Laura kept going.
"C'mon, we're going to be late!" She called back to me, not stopping or hesitating.
I was now faced with a decision. Do I follow Laura, or go help the girl?
If you choose to follow Laura, go to chapter nine.
If you choose to help the girl, go to chapter thirteen.
