Chapter 4 - Sia
Sia found herself in a dark corridor, silence all around as the music came to a sudden pause. As she walked down the corridor, lightening cackled outside. The sound of her footsteps echoed in her ears. With each strike of lightening, a portrait in the dark hall got illuminated, each one more sinister than the last.
Then, in the distance she heard the sound of footsteps approaching her faster than she herself could move. However, instead of being scared Sia kept moving but she knew exactly what she had to do. As the footsteps got so close that she could tell there was someone behind her, Sia turned around and used her sword to slash the monster that wanted to stab her in the back.
She heard the cheers of two of her friends as she moved faster, slashing and pushing until the monster turned into a horde of bats and disappeared. As the last of the bats disappeared, Sia heard the sweet sound of experience being added to the blue bar on the top of her screen and smiled.
There really wasn't anyone who could beat her at it.
Sia was about to say something to her online friends when her headphones were taken off. When she looked up, she found Cat standing behind her.
"I've been calling you for a while, Warrior Princess Xena." Cat smirked and Sia could almost hear her friends booing Cat.
"Actually, I was a monster hunter this time," Sia explained, making Cat roll her eyes.
"It's honestly all the same to me. Anyway, what do you want to do for dinner?" Cat asked.
"I'm okay with whatever you want," she answered, smiling up at Cat.
Sighing, Cat sat beside Sia, leaning her whole body on the other girl.
"You know, someday you have to do something for yourself," she whispered.
"I am," Sia said, lifting the console and smiling.
Rolling her eyes, Cat snuggled closer to Sia while she muted her microphone. She wanted to spend these few moments with her roommate in silence.
Smiling, she looked down at Cat, running her hand through the girl's dyed blue hair and then tracing her skin gently. Soon the girl started to make a sound that sounded so close to a purr, the very reason why she got the nickname that she did.
Before she could help herself, Sia bent down and placed a soft kiss on Cat's head, making the girl giggle.
"Well, someone has the hots for me," Cat teased and Sia pushed her away, laughing.
"Very funny." Sia rolled her eyes as Cat clung to her once again.
"You know I love you," Cat sang.
"Then get dinner done," Sia said, flicking Cat's forehead.
"As you wish, master." Cat bowed and then gave Sia a quick kiss on the forehead before dashing out of the room.
Sia watched as Cat ran out of the room, closing the door as she left. As she walked out and the room fell back into the darkness, her emotions began to surface as her heart began to hurt.
There was one thing that she wanted more than anything and that was to reach out and hold Cat in her arms for as long as she could. However, she knew that the moment her friend knew what she felt for her, Cat would leave her behind.
Whether Cat wanted to admit it or not, no matter how many flings she had, no matter how many men she called her boyfriend, she had given her heart to one boy long ago. It was just that he could never see Cat more than a friend because for Nathan, Anysl was it.
Even if Cat denied it a million times, Sia knew how she felt about Nathan because there was nothing about Cat that she didn't know.
Turning her attention back to her game, Sia put her headphones back on and unmuted her mic. Her online friends chattered away happily as she concentrated on levelling up while her mind was being haunted by Cat's words.
You know I love you.
"I love you, too," Sia whispered, her eyes no longer focused on the screen.
"What was that?" One of her friends asked.
"Nothing, let's just play," she answered and then lost herself in the game once again.
*****
Sia didn't know how many hours she had spent just playing that one game. It seemed as if hours had passed by in seconds while she lost herself, laughing with her friends and just finishing the game.
Now her eyes burned slightly and even her glasses couldn't help her focus on the screen before her. Her whole body felt sluggish and she knew that it was time to go to bed.
Saying her goodbyes, she switched off her computer and darkness consumed the room. She ran her hand over the wall until she found the switch for the night light and switched it on, clearing up her bed. Then she looked at the water bottle kept on her bedside table to find it empty.
Groaning, she rolled out of bed and then headed to the kitchen to get some water. As she walked down the hall, everything seemed so quiet that she wondered how late it really was. The lights in Cat's room seemed to be switched off which was surprising since the girl stayed up much later than Sia did.
She must have really been engulfed in the game and would definitely be facing the consequences during class.
Filling up her water bottle, she yawned, tapping her foot impatiently. Once done, she started the journey back to her room even more tired than before. However, for some reason the hall seemed longer than usual. It was as if the more she walked, the further her room got.
The eerie silence and the darkness of the hall certainly weren't helping her as she tried to get back to her room. The sound of her heart beat filled her ears like a drum as she felt herself get paranoid.
Then she heard the sound of footsteps approaching her which just couldn't be right because the only people in the house were her and Cat.
Shaking her head, Sia kept walking. She was probably just tired and was imagining things because of the game. However, the fear still lingered in her veins as the sound of footsteps seemed to get louder.
Scared, Sia was going to call out for Cat when suddenly she felt a rush as someone ran past her faster than any human possibly could. She watched the figure run in the darkness, all the way to the end of the hall and stop.
Beneath the small light at the end of the hall, Sia saw the figure of a man standing with his back towards her. He was devoid of any clothes and his whole body was painted black from head to toe. Slowly, he turned around and Sia felt her heart jump to her throat because the man standing before her had no face.
Before she could react, before she could even understand the scene before her eyes, the man started running towards her, speeding up as he went. Soon Sia found herself screaming at the top of her lungs but no one came to save her.
The man got closer and closer. However, before he could take her, the darkness moved faster and Sia closed her eyes.
