We Didn't Do This
Danny never thought he would be glad to be back at the foster home but this time he was and that surprised both him and Toxin. Danny tossed his stuff in the corner of his room and laid down on his bed, he was done with everything. After being constantly reminded of prom and making sure no one was following them back to the foster home he was both tired and annoyed.
He decided to take a nap and Toxin seemed all too happy to do the same, he was pretty sure Symbiotes did sleep, or Toxin chose to. Danny fell asleep and when he woke up it was because John was knocking on his door because dinner was ready. He got up and rubbed his eyes, he could feel how sluggish Toxin was so he was guessing he didn't want to wake up just yet.
Danny walked downstairs and sat down, he was silent as he ate and the others were talking but he saw several of them look at him. They'd been doing that ever since he got shot, it was annoying which was why he was trying to finish his food quickly. He finished in less then five minutes and immediately left to go to his room, now to wait until it got dark.
Toxin had managed to wake himself up while Danny was eating and he spoke, 'You are not happy.'
"Nope."
'They are just worried about you, they still think you are injured.'
"That's not the point, I've been shot before and they know that, and if I haven't had any problems by now they shouldn't be worried, who would honestly be worried about me anyway?"
Toxin growled a little, 'I would!' Danny was silent, 'You are my host, you helped me and you are protecting me. You insist that you are not a good person but you are kinder then most of the humans I have seen, and I do not want you to get hurt.'
Danny sighed and looked out the window, it was almost completely dark now, "You're one weird guy."
'Maybe, but it does not change what I said, you are the first real friend I have had in a very long time.'
Danny stayed silent for a minute, "You know a lot about me but I don't know much about you."
'I don't talk about my past much.'
"Why?"
Toxin made a noise somewhere between a sigh and a growl, 'I am not like other Symbiotes, most of them are built for strength, I am not.'
"Okay but what does that mean, I can't look into your mind so you've got to explain this stuff to me."
Toxin was silent for a few seconds, 'I am much smaller then other Symbiotes, to survive I had to learn how to use my speed against the others. I became a good fighter but no one liked me, I was shunned by my own kind simply because of my size. There was one that did not seem to hate me but I have not seen him in years, for all I know he could be dead.'
Toxin went quiet and Danny sighed, "You know you don't have to tell me about this stuff if you don't want to."
It felt like Toxin shook his head, 'I became part of a small team, these teams are formed to learn about new planets. Once we learn how to survive and find food we bring other Symbiotes, when I got to Earth I had to find a host. The first was a normal person, worked a normal job but they didn't get much respect from others.'
'The second was a police officer, the first started to die but they had a chance of surviving if I left, the officer was the nearest person. They lasted for about two weeks before I was forced to leave, then I somehow ended up here and got captured. I could not leave, the ones that captured me tried learning about me but they were idiots, they learned very little.'
'Then you came along, you are different from the other humans, the first was convinced others were the reason his life was as bad as it was. The second accepted bribes from people to look the other way while they broke the laws he'd sworn to protect. But you fight not just for yourself but for others, you stopped the orphanage because of the other children they were hurting.'
'You survived so you could help people, and you protected the other children in the foster homes even if they never thanked you. You have been hurt but you can still find compassion for other people and try to protect them, even if your methods are not always the best.'
Danny looked out the window again, "It's dark, time to go." He opened the window and stepped onto the frame, "Thanks, for telling me, I know talking about your past isn't always fun."
Danny jumped to the tree and climbed down, as he made his way into the more populated areas of the city, Toxin spoke, 'It is never fun for you. I can see your memories, feel your emotions, I know your life was hard, that is why I'm glad your survived, if you hadn't kept fighting I never would have met you.'
Danny paused, no one had ever said they were glad he survived what he did, if anyone ever knew they either pitied him or didn't care. Toxin had basically just said he was glad he met him, it shocked and confused him but he couldn't help but smile too. He transformed and soon reached a more populated area of the city, now they just had to wait.
They only waited a few minutes before they found something, a typical mugger, Phantom jumped down and the guy looked at him. The woman took the chance to kick the guy where no man ever wanted to be kicked and she backed up with her purse in her hands. Phantom smiled, "Nice one, I'll take care of this guy."
She didn't respond as she ran away and Phantom quickly tied the guy up for the police to find, what made it funny to him was that the guy was too winded to do anything. Phantom left and Toxin spoke, 'I feel like that woman has had to deal with muggers before.'
Phantom shrugged, "Maybe, either way she's not someone you'd want to mess with."
Toxin laughed a little and Phantom laughed too, then the halfa paused, he couldn't remember ever really laughing with someone like this. Talking to Toxin just felt a little different now, like they knew each other a lot better, he might even call it trust. Toxin had known about his past almost since the beginning but Phantom just learned about his.
Now he knew Toxin understood him, at least to some degree, it was actually nice knowing he wasn't completely alone. He smiled before going to find another crime, he saw someone leaving a store while pointing his gun at the man behind the register. So the place was open until late and the guy decided to rob in, Toxin spoke, 'He needs to be taught a lesson.'
Phantom smirked, "Couldn't agree more buddy, let's do this."
Phantom jumped down and the guy immediately turned and fired at him, he easily dodged and Toxin took the gun. He tossed it to the side and Phantom easily knocked the guy out, Phantom left the bag of money in front of the shop so the guy could see it. Phantom got a weird feeling but it wasn't him, he raised an eyebrow, "You okay Toxin?"
Toxin was silent for a second, 'You called me 'buddy'.'
Phantom cleared his throat, "Well, I figured that you've earned that by now, you've put up with me this long after all."
'Others have dealt with you longer.'
"Yeah but none of them are literally in my head, none of them can feel my emotions either."
Toxin was quiet, Phantom could tell that he was a little happy, but his attention was taken away from his friend when he heard a yell. The guy he'd just taken down was pulled onto a rooftop, Phantom quickly flew up and a blur jumped off the roof into an alley. Toxin shouted, 'What the hell was that?!'
"I don't know."
He moved to go after the, whatever it was, when his foot hit something, it was the criminal and he was missing his head and his arm. Phantom stared for a second before several figures landed on the roof, Robin, Kid Flash, and Superboy were standing in front of him. If he had to guess he'd say the heroes had split up and the three managed to find him, and at the worst possible time.
Kid Flash spoke, "We've got you this time, give up."
Superboy then saw the body and glared at him, "You're a murderer."
Phantom shook his head, "We didn't do this."
Kid Flash spoke, "Then who did?"
"We don't know, we weren't fast enough to see but we didn't do this."
Robin stared at him, he had a strange look on his face that was hard to see with the mask covering his eyes. Phantom glanced at him and when Superboy took a step forward Phantom stepped back, Superboy spoke, "You broke into a government building, why should we believe you?"
Kid Flash took a step forward and Phantom backed up again, one more step and he'd be at the edge. Robin was just staring at him, he hadn't said a word, he hadn't made a single move to get closer or stop them, he just stared. Phantom glanced at him again and Toxin spoke, 'They will not believe us, we have to go.'
Phantom agreed, he jumped off the rooftop and the heroes ran to stop him, when they looked over the edge he was gone. They quickly made their way down to see if they could find him, Kid Flash ran in one direction and Superboy went in another. Robin looked around and then he heard a dinging sound, a man slowly opened the door to a convenience store and glanced around.
He picked up a bag and Robin looked at him, "Hey, did you see a guy with white hair and green eyes just a second ago?"
The man looked at him and nodded, "Sort of, he stopped a robber that was in here a minute ago. He knocked the guy out and set the bag of money right here, I went to call the cops and he was gone."
Robin was confused, so the guy stopped a store robber, gave the money back, and then just decided to kill they guy on a rooftop? It was weird, the guy said he didn't do it and he actually believed him, he saw the look on his face when he was looking at the body. He looked confused, panicked, and shocked, but he looked like he was telling the truth when he said he was innocent.
Robin didn't know what was going on but he wanted to find out, and he had to do it before they managed to catch the guy. Meanwhile, Phantom and Toxin quickly agreed to go back to the foster home and Phantom teleported to make sure they weren't followed. Danny transformed back and closed the window in his room before he sat on his bed.
Toxin spoke, 'I don't get it, what could have killed that man so quickly?'
"I don't know, I've done this stuff in a lot of cities but I've never seen anything like that. I'd say some guy with a sword or something but those weren't clean cuts, it looked like his head and arm were torn off. But I haven't heard of any villains that could do that getting out of Arkham, someone or something did this and they were strong, and fast."
Toxin growled, 'I do not like this.'
"Neither do I, but with those heroes already looking for us we can't go to investigate, let's sleep and see if we can find anything tomorrow." With that the two went to sleep wondering what the hell was going on.
