Lost & Found
Arthit's POV
I'm in so much trouble. I don't even know what to do. I don't know how this happened. Where should I even begin? Okay, let's calm down and rewind to yesterday.
"Paaaapaaaa...waaawaaa..."
Wait a second. I drop the mattress I'm holding as Stella is crying and reaching for me. I'm watching the babies by myself while Reena, our helper slash nanny, took the day off.
"Oh, what's wrong Lala? Don't rub your eyes like that, baby. Tell Papa what's wrong." I gently tug her little fists away from her teary eyes.
"SolSkySar Bun Bun get me ajdgsjhkjshka...waaa."
"Aww... don't cry. Papa go look, okay?"
Aish! The boys must have tossed Stella's toy again. The babies can't say their full names yet, so all of their names have been shortened or simplified.
Carrying my princess down the hallway, I can already hear the boys making a racket in their shared room.
Chup. I kiss Lala's little palm as she holds my face.
Upon entering the kid's room, Lala wiggles out of my arms and points to the top of the dresser where her bunny is half dangling off the edge. "Waaa..."
"Solar! Skylar! Saros! Which one of you guys threw Lala's Bun Bun up there?" I ask the boys as I survey their room that looks like a tornado had ripped through. Toys, clothes, and blankets are strewn all over the place. Gosh, I was only gone for a matter of minutes.
All three boys look at me with their eyes wide, their lips trembling, and in unison, "Waaa...Papa...waaa...Papa...waaa."
And of course, the moment when the others cry, Lala has to cry too. Now all four of them are crying and rubbing their eyes out. So I immediately grab Bun Bun from the dresser and sit down on the floor in the middle of the room with my arms and legs wide open.
"Aww...come here. Come. Come." Then all four of them come over to me and I wrap my arms around all my babies the best I can.
"It's okay. Papa's not mad at you guys." I try to calm each of them down and kiss the top of their heads. Then they turn to kiss each other on the cheeks. I don't know if other siblings do this too but my babies like to soothe each other when they're sad. Some people might feel like it's a lot to have four little two-year-olds running around, but I wouldn't trade it for the world.
"Okay, it's nappy time. Let's get ready."
None of them protest or whine as they yawn at the mention of sleep and their eyes start to droop. So I usher all of them to the bathroom to use the potty and wash their hands before laying them in their king-size bed. I put on their favorite Beatles lullaby and watch as they pair up, hugging each other until they drift to sleep.
I get up and start straightening their room even though it'll return to the same state the moment they wake up, but as they say, a father's job is never done.
Oh shit! I almost forgot. I'm in trouble. Yeah, I'm in real trouble.
Softly closing the kid's bedroom door, I quickly head back to my room. Now, where can it be? As I was saying earlier before Stella came in crying, I'm in trouble. You see, the thing is, I've somehow managed to misplace one of my wedding bands. It's the one Kong gave me.
I don't usually take them off even when I sleep because I'm afraid I would lose them. I only take them off when it's absolutely necessary. Yet, somehow I've lost one of them. I've looked everywhere in the house and my bedroom already. But I still can't find it.
I think I took it off briefly to wash my hands from some chocolate frosting yesterday, but I swear I had put it back on. So where did it go?
Last night we were too busy doing things so I didn't even notice it was missing from my hand until this morning. And my Kong had an early meeting so he left in a hurry and didn't notice either. But how will I face him when he returns and finally notices it missing?
Why? Why me?
I've already flipped our room upside down and still NOTHING!
Kong takes his rings off every night and he's never lost his.
What's wrong with me? Oh my God! What if my Kong gets upset when he finds out? What if he leaves me? Then I'll be a single father with quadruplets. It would be such a disaster. Saros won't sleep without his Dada.
No! I can't let that happen. My babies need their Dada and I need my Kong for life.
What if Kong wants all the babies and not me anymore? Nooo!
Where's my ring? Dammit!
3rd POV
"Arthit, I'm home..." Kong walks into their bedroom to find his husband on all fours under a rug and the whole place is turned upside down. Their mattress is laying on the floor, all the contents of each drawer are dumped out, the sofa and its cushions are strewn across the other side of the room. "What's going on here?"
"Kong?" Arthit crawls out from under the rug. "Why are you home so early?"
Kong bewilderedly walks further into their chaotic room, "I thought I'd come back earlier to spend some time with you and the babies."
Tears start to form in Arthit's eyes as he rushes over to hold his husband. He's just so perfect. "Kong... please don't leave me."
Kong wraps his arms around Arthit, "My love, what's wrong? What are you talking about? Don't scare me like this?"
Arthit nuzzles into the crook of his husband's neck, "Kong, the symbol of our love is forever gone. I don't know what happened to it. I can't find it and I've looked everywhere."
"Are you sure? Have you looked here?" Kong takes his husband's hand and places it over his heart. "Still beating for you."
"Yuck! It's no time to be cheesy." Arthit slaps his hand against Kong's solid chest.
Kong chuckles, "Then it's no time to be so dramatic, Mr. Rojnapat. Now, can you tell me what's going on? Why would I leave you? And where exactly am I going?"
"Kong, you smell good. Don't you feel hot in your suit? Let me help you take it off." Arthit yanks off Kong's tie.
"Oh no, you don't. You're just trying to distract me. Now, tell me what's wrong."
"Chup. Can't we have sex first? Chup. The babies are napping." Arthit untucks Kong's shirt.
"Arthit –"
"Lala's bunny got tossed out of reach again. We have to teach the boys not to do that."
"Don't change the subject," Kong warns.
"I'm not changing the subject. Parenting and disciplining our children are very important."
"More important than why do you think I'm going to leave you? I don't think so."
"Ugh! Why are you so damn focused? Am I not attractive to you anymore? Am I not sexy anymore?" Arthit pulls away. Maybe the ring doesn't even matter anymore. His husband doesn't even want him.
"Arthit –" Kong pulls him back into his arms and smashes their lips together in a soul sucking maddening kiss that leaves Arthit completely breathless.
Pulling apart, they both gasp for air.
"Now, are you ready to tell me what's going on and why our room looks like this?" Kong holds on tightly knowing Arthit will try to wiggle out and escape.
Arthit timidly looks through his lashes at his husband. "Kong, I'm sorry. I've lost my wedding ring. Please forgive me. I love you so much. Please don't leave me. I promise it'll never happen again. I don't want to be a single father with quadruplets. Then I'll never get to sleep. And I don't want to grow old and gray all alone...mmm"
Kong covers his husband's mouth from spouting any further nonsense. Where does he come up with this stuff? He looks at Arthit's hand where the ring is missing and then back at Arthit's puppy eyes.
"Love, I would never leave you no matter how many rings you lose. You're stuck with me for life. And besides, you haven't lost it."
Staring at his husband with his eyes wide in surprise, Arthit pulls Kong's hand away, "I haven't?"
"Let me guess. You haven't checked your phone since this morning. Have you?"
Arthit sheepishly shakes his head. He's been busy with the babies since he woke up, and from the moment he noticed his ring was missing, he's been busy looking for his ring. So no, he hasn't checked his phone.
Then Kong holds up his right hand. On his ring finger were two stacked identical rings.
"My ring! Why did you take it?" Arthit tries to take his ring back but Kong quickly closes his fist and hides his hand behind his back.
"The ring was on the kitchen counter by the sink. I saw it this morning while grabbing my coffee. I wanted to bring it back up to you but the babies had just woken up and if I came upstairs, I would've been late for my meeting. But I didn't want to just leave it sitting around. So I wore it and texted you that I have your ring."
"Oh my God. I could kill you. I was so scared thinking I really lost it."
"Well, if you kill me, then you will have to be a single father with quadruplets. And then you'll never get to sleep. You'll also grow old and gray all alone. But don't worry. I love you so much I'll be back to haunt you. Hahaha."
"Shut up!"
"Even death won't do us part." Kong chuckles and takes the ring and puts it back on his husband's finger.
"Yuck!"
Chup.
